Not touching any *GM* tech with a 10 foot pole. ❌
I love a lot of their tech.
One if the first recent evs.
Plugin hybrids
Small turbos before others fwd led lighting magnaride Corvette, super cruise Camaro 2le various manual V8 Cadillacs etc.
They have some good tech, and also a lot of bad.
@@Tigerex966 Yup, so not going to be the guinea pig with a hit or miss track record
GM should go out of business.
After the Consumer Reports Blazer EV pre-review and now the price, this is a hard pass.
Right… but can we say we’re surprised?
@@atmartens not really…
CR really let GM have it about all of the infotainment system problems that they had. Brutally honest!
I never entrust CR to guide me in all things automotive. I will look at their recommendations from time to time but not by themselves only.
I mean, you shouldn't every trust one source.. but listen to their podcast on it. The issues they had weren't with the car, but the issues they from the one they purchased that truthfully would make anyone mad.@@rusack7174
“Built by General Motors.” 🤢
Might as well get a Honda Pilot or Acura MDX for those prices.
Its pricey for a Honda badged Chevy.
The Prologue is based on the blazer EV which Consumer Reports says it is one of the worst cars it has tested???
CR didn't really back that up imho
EVs are so expensive yet depreciate so much. I'd much rather have a hybrid at this point.
They don't tend to hold their value much better to be honest. The only exceptions are the CRV and RAV4 purely because of how many people want them. Not sure why, the RAV4 is made like crap. My brother has the 2021 XLE and he still has a vinyl steering wheel, no guides on the backup camera, no heated mirrors, and the ride is rough and loud.
@@Skylancer727 all Toyota hybrids hold value very well lol
@@Skylancer727it’s a rav4 not a lexus lol
They depreciated a lot recently because Musk lowered the prices of Tesla's by as much as 18K, on top of that you can get $5k inventory discounts and the 7500 fed rebate. So of course the older ones have a huge drop in resale.
Definitely the Model Y at this price point 👉
It would be cool if they made the Honda E a hybrid and available to the U.S. market. It would be a hit!
Or a Fit hybrid.
@@blackwhirlwind1245 The Fit was kinda ugly. The E looks cool. I guess they could rename it.
@@andyleo8418 the E is already stopping production
@@Carfan678 I know. Just wishful thinking.
A Range Extended Honda E would be on my shopping list:
- Like an EV, smooth instant torque and no transmission.
- Powerful regen to provide strong braking and lifetime pads.
- 15,000 annual commuting miles all on cheap home electricity.
The Range Extender would eliminate the single biggest flaw of EVs, range and charging anxiety.
-The battery could be much smaller, lighter & cheaper to cover daily commutes.
-The ICE could be small, light & optimized just for charging the battery.
- No need for an extra car just for long trips
Yup that's what I did. I got a CRV Hybrid. THAT is the play. Don't trust GM and I don't care if it looks like a Honda. It's a GM product with a Honda skin. Don't buy it. Get the hybrid, save a ton of money and wait until Honda releases a Full Honda product, or if you really want an EV now, get an ioniq 5 or Model Y.
It bothers me...I don't want a chevy
After Consumer Reports’ initial review gave a scathing assessment of the Blazer, I did a comparison with the Mustang Mach-E. GM’s newest model didn’t match the Ford. And now Honda is risking their reputation by introducing the Prologue and the Acura ZDX. The ZDX is essentially a Cadillac Lyriq and that’s no great claim to fame.
This ain’t gonna be pretty.
I mean the main flaw with the blazer was the infotainment being broken which is all thanks to GM removing Android Auto and Apple Carplay so they could make their own subscription service.
I really appreciate the comparison of models/Trims and pricing and what you like and what you recommend !!! thanks Kirk
Ioniq 5 and ev 6 are not SUV’s
What ev suv would you recommend apart from Tesla ? In mainstream
As I understand it, most EV owners charge at home. If that's so, do those owners worry about their range generally before they're home again and able to "top off" their battery packs? Me personally, I can't remember the last time I covered more than 250 miles in one sitting. So, if that matches most driver's range, is having absolute range only driving costs upward? As infrastructure improves and battery tech moves forward, will these concerns only fade away?
The GM parts in this Honda means don’t touch it with a 10,000 ft pole because the Ultium platform is a fire waiting to happen.
We went with the CRV Hybrid Touring AWD. It is very smooth and quiet.
8:07 You forgot to add the awd option for the Ioniq limited which is $3900
Okay great ! Also the 5 gets huge factory incentives
Genesis interior is boring. I doubt they are making any money on their EVs. The RZ450e is a better package than the GV70.
First… I love my Honda and Acura. I strongly dislike that Honda paired with GM. Yes, I understand that they need to help keep cost low but the quality is so poor in GM. I’m not one to buy a first gen product anyways… but there’s so many cons to this Honda and ZDX that I don’t see any reason why this would be on my buy list.
The only pro I’ve seen is Acura not using their silly touch pad system.
Acura is also phasing the pad out of the MDX and the new Integra doesn’t have the pad either
Yep! New MDX ditched the track pad
Honda is totally out of touch with their prices, especially here in Canada. I know so many generational Honda loyalists that now refuse to buy a Honda due to their insane price hikes. They are taking advantage of customers and they are losing a lot of them in Canada (I can't speak about the USA).
Exactly. I’m in Southern California and the saddest part is people keep paying the premium to get half as much. Honda is totally out of line but customers are just rewarding them
So you believe Honda prices are higher than other manufacturers cars?
It's not just Honda. They are ALL over priced right now. You think $75,000 (🇨🇦) is ok for a Dodge Ram 1500 that should be no more than $50,000 if that? Honda prices are actually reasonable compared to everyone else. Still over priced but not as bad as everyone else.
@@venom999333 I never, not once, said ANYTHING about other manufacturers not doing the same thing. RAM, Chevy and Ford are all guilty of doing the same thing to their trucks, and other manufacturers as well. However, the % at which Honda has increased their prices spans almost every vehicle in their lineup.
If you want to provide an opinion or counter point, I would recommend that you don't put words in the mouths of others. It only hurts the credibility of your actual opinion.
@MrBobbyBrown2006 all I was stating was yes, they are high, but so is every other manufacturers vehicles. Not just the trucks.
You went directly at Honda. Saying you know people that stopped buying their vehicles because of this. Which being true, but also true with all the companies.
No words were put in your mouth. I'm just letting you know what it sounds like.
So calm down, bud. Don't get your panties in a bunch
And YOUR credibility is questionable when you didn't say all companies. Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, Hyundai/Kia.
Kirk, When I think of Honda I am reminded the Accord wagon is overdue for a comeback. 😉
Price seems steep. I was looking at the Cadillac LYRIQ which starts at $51,090 with dest charge for a RWD model. Some people are very loyal to Honda but considering it's built by GM, it might be hard to convince people that it's worth more for the Honda/Acura version.
Agree 100%. Either Model Y or CRV. We own an RDX and Model Y. If Acura pushes us to the ZDX, they just lost a customer. I hope they plan to refresh the gas RDX.
at this point, just interested to see if the Honda/Acura version has the same software glitches as the Blazer EV or NO glitches...? for if it's "glitch free" then it hints that GM is deliberately "handicapping" these vehicles. just saw a video of 2024 Hummer EV SUV (not the truck but the new SUV) having to be towed back to a GMC dealer with only a little over 200 miles after it BRICKED in an owner's garage.
Gas and hybrid have the same effect with higher models having lower range. Just look up the prius for example. You lose like 4mpg by getting the bigger wheels and another 4mpg for getting the AWD. We just care about it more with EVs because their range was so much lower from the start.
Yea the Prius in teal life driving has a 6 to 700 mile range, and with cheap gas may be cheaper to own and operate, higher resale, lower insurance cost, and the plug in model can be operated almost exclusively in electricity if you only need 40 miles a day and this cars are no longer slow , although not as fast as the faster RVs.
A few things to note: these will soon become eligible for the tax credit again I am sure as the GM cars will soon be - thus narrowing the gap with the Hyundai cars. Also, these cars are bigger than the Tesla and Hyundai cars by quite a bit, so comparing them to them is not really accurate.
Eh, the size isn't as big a deal as you think. Remember that the Model Y is pretty big and doesn't have a fabric ceiling making it much bigger inside than it looks. The cargo space for the Model Y is also moderately larger purely because it has the frunk.
why are they making their life so hard, Honda CR EEEEE-V, make and Ev and an Ice version of the CRV. Why make a brand new car?
Kind of expensive for me, but I guess it’s competitive enough. I dont mind that it’s GM based though.
I don’t care about comparison b/w Honda and GM I care about style which goes to Honda because it looks much better.
GM in Mexico 😢
You have to thoroughly look at the whole package. Range and speed are not everything. Size, ride quality, styling, CarPlay, Head Up Display (HUD), audio quality, ergonomics, even the wheels and tires matter. Moreover the Ultium platform is designed to allow easy changing of batteries in the future. For a family SUV, I vote for the Honda Prologue especially the Elite. It's worth every penny.
I think legacy auto forgot to that many people buy cars priced over 40k. Everyone wants cheap hybrids or ICE. You can make the argument now that plugins may be a muc better viable option for the dipping your toes in EVs but won't have complete realize on charging as it is not required.
Thanks for the Video Kirk.
You have to factor in the 7500 fed credit on the tesla's. After you do that there is no comparison.
That’s the problem with almost all EVs except for Tesla. Currently the Model Y can be had for the price of a Rav4 since it qualifies for the tax credit. But the prologue and most other compact-midsize mainstream EVs costs 45-60K which is a lot especially if they don’t qualify for the tax credit.
I personally felt the CRV is very expensive given it’s top model doesn’t have ventilated seats, panaormaic roof, etc but it’s still a better deal than the Prologue. Especially because the prologue isn’t particularly fast nor does it have extra space/room.
All of the BEV's available right now are different sizes, there's no size class as there is with ICEV's. So people are comparing prices and getting it wrong. I think this will do well for Honda and Acura, for what their goals are as their 1st BEV. Isuzu was a stop gap that served Honda and Acura well until they built the Pilot/MDX
If its any consolation, a base CRV hybrid is just over £44,000 ($55kUSD roughly) so there isnt too much in it price wise.
Imo Honda had a slim chance with this before the recent news with GM EV's then we saw more about the state of GM and their EV's and now that Honda has released this pricing its almost like Honda doesn't want this to succeed. Even though the range on this compared to other EV's isn't bad at all for that price still not good enough value wise or range wise as a whole compared to other cars Both EV and Gas. Great video as usual though Kirk.
What about the Acura zdx
8:05 the I5 price is for the RWD. If you want AWD it's another $6K bringing it to $59K or so. I would still pick the I5 over the Prologue and I'm a Honda fan boy.
Thanks for that catch. Keep in mind the 7500 rebate currently for ioniq5
@@KirkKreifels I'm assuming the Prologue will get this rebate when leasing as well? A lot of dealerships are even taking $7,500 off the I5 leasing or not. It's been that slow for them. The 2023s I5 could be had for $15K right now.
I was thinking of getting an EV6 GT as a dealership was selling it for only $49K. I'm going to wait until the end of this year to pick something up tho, EV or not as there are so many great cars coming out this year. Landcruiser or 4runner. It's gonna be a tough choice.
personally i think the honda looks better than the model Y and chevy
I agree. But looks are everything
Yeah but does it look as good as the Ioniq 5 which is cheaper?
@@Skylancer727 nope it doesn't
@@KirkKreifels yh looks aren't everything but they go a long way.
You could say a CRV hybrid but I’ll also say for similar pricing/ size, who’s buying this over a crown signia
We don't have pricing for Crown Signia but that will start probably $40k+
Saying it’s a GM car is very misleading. Honda designed everything but the electric part. I personally love the look of it!
What was Honda thinking? Oh that's right. Government mandates and pressure bringing all auto makes down because ma weather scam.
I just want to understand the prices of the Model Y and the Ioniq 5 you were showing because I'm Canadian. The Ioniq 5 Limited comes with everything? There's no extra package? Because in Canada each trim you have to add a 6k dollar package for the pano roof etc. Also, in the US, Tesla puts their fake discounted prices up on the main page, subtracting the 7500 and "gas savings" don't they? That drives me mental.
I got an inventory model Y AWD long range for $39,750 USD out the door, taxes and fees included. That includes the fed rebate.
@@minimalist0000 that’s unbelievable. In Ontario the cheapest would be 64k minus 5k govt rebate, plus 13% tax. Around 70k.
@@kevinn1158 I actually got $14850 discount (7350+7500). I was waiting for the 7500 fed POS rebate this year, then I saw the huge inventory discount and jumped at it. It was a no brainer for me, It was cheaper than a rav4 hybrid.
My buddy is shopping for an ICE car in Toronto and the dealers are screwing people over due to inventory shortages.
U forgot bout the NICE! Nissan Ariyam...
Add 50% to the prices and that is what they would cost to buy in my country.
Almost 1 week and no detailed driving reviews. Wonder which will more Honda Prologue or Chevy Blazer... Honda will probably not have enough volume as planned..
Wow, so expensive, i bought a 2023 Hybrid highlander and i pay 56000$ CAN (43000USD). The ZDX will be near 80000$ USD for the top trim (about 105000$ CAN). I can't understand how someone can justify this sort of money for a GM Blazer. It is really concerning. At this price point i will keep my hybrid, much better value.
This summer I looked at the new CRV Hybrid and was blown away by how smooth the drivetrain is (Smoother than my 2020 RDX) but I just hate how common they are around me. I see one every time I leave the house. 🥲 I have yet to decide on an EV that would be a perfect replacement for the RDX, but the CRV Hybrid Touring stays in the back of my mind.
Even CRV price are insane
It's what the industry has always wanted, to normalize high prices. When sales drop they just reduce production to maintain the price. Same strategy Nintendo has used for consoles since the Wii.
I was pretty disgusted when on my Toyota app it advertised the mobile paying with an image of a $970 monthly payment. Who the hell is buying cars that far out of their price bracket? That's another $70K on top of whatever deposite they put down. You may think that's unrealistic, but last year over 15% of people had over $1000 monthly payments.
Waiting for the hydrogen crv 🤫
I’m conflicted because being built by gm just might mean they own the factory, and or that they needed to build them here for tax factors. If this is the case then maybe Honda has upped the build quality but just used our factory, in which case it would be fine. However, if not then there is no way I would buy one
It is based on GM technology. Basically the Blazer ev
Sadly no. GM is building this and putting the Honda shell on top. As a Honda owner I was excited for it at first but after the GM catastrophe it's just not worth the money. Shop elsewhere or if you're sticking to the H badge, do what I did and get a CRV and wait it out until they come up with a better EV made from their own company
Acura ZDX also doesn’t have valet, inclusive service!
Yuck a GM/Honda...no thanks no matter what. I'll take the CR-V Hybrid for now lol
GV60 felt small for me. That’s where I would prefer the ZDX/Lyriq. I also don’t think Ioniq5 is getting a positive press either.
From what I found while the Lyric is about 8 inches taller, it actually has less interior space. Remember that being taller doesn't really mean it will have more area for EVs. EVs have the battery at the bottom so it may just mean the seats being higher up.
@@Skylancer727 I mean legroom wise, I can barely fit in the GV60 lol. Where I can fit in the Lyriq comfortably
@yiyangcheng Can't say I've had that problem in any car. Usually it would just mean push the seat back and telescope out the wheel. Even put on a seat pad in my car to add cooled and heated seating and I still fit just fine. Though I did have to lower the seat all the way down.
I haven’t been super confident in a lot of Honda products lately. They don’t seem to be prioritizing reliability the way Toyota does and they consistently charge more than the competition for their products. I don’t think Honda is gonna keep its reputation in the long-run if they keep making moves like this. I’m more Mazda and Toyota all the way
Wait, is that the same factory that fucked up the 2016 Fit?
At least it’s better than the ID4
I hope so!
It’s also better than BZ4X or Solterra. Not sure about the tax credit, but it should get tax credit.
Honda was forced to work with GM... in return they bring their real evs 2 years later..... Imo
The failure of the Chevy Blazer EV is a stigma to all Honda EV based on that Chevy
Not ready for an ev yet, but model Y over the prologue any day. Rather deal with tesla’s bs than gm’s 💀
I hate to say it but it will fail. Maybe they will cancel it.
i think you might be right...
Toyota and Honda would do well to stay away from American automakers. They will contaminate the reputation.
I still thinking crv or prologue !!!!
Awesome
I would understand being concerned about Honda reliability versus GM reliability when it comes to internal combustion engines, but this is an electric vehicle. The components aren’t going to be vastly different when it comes to how well they’re built. Honda does not know what they’re doing at all. Honda has zero experience in the space.
Its too bad Honda, and most all Japanese brands, were stubborn naive and ignorant of the disruption to EV's. Honda had no plans and desperately then went to GM...oh boy this could be really bad...
It's a GM EV vehicle that has already been plagued with build and reliability issues. Why did Honda go back to the Isuzu-esque game plan again? Honda really dropped the ball on this one.
honda they missed the boat
they know that
Both the Prologue and ZDX are going to be DOA. I'd rather get the Model Y or the CRV Hybrid 11 times out of 10.
GM Honda ? Thank you next !
Why even play around with Honda or Tesla? I would go Lexus UX hybrid
NX or rx hybrid are more size appropriate to blazer
@@KirkKreifels for sure, I'm thinking more in line w the dollar value. Plus, can't go wrong w Lexus warranties and customer service!
Honda ev isn’t going to last too many other manufacturers shutting down ev
It is so expensive. If you go to Tesla inventory, you can find Model Y long range model for 45K plus $7500 tax credit which can be deducted from vehicle price. Why buy GM? lol It's non-sense.
Look who's on team Tay-Tay
Been a fan since a kid. Priest Holmes!
Doesn't matter how it drives, it's still a GM.
Should’ve been in the low/mid 30s
The more EV models traditional car makers release, the more we desire brands like BYD to come to the North America.
Go Chiefs!!
I love the styling, but not interested in a Mexican built GM product. Unless they want to lease it for $299/mos with $1K down.
IF I was spending this much I’d just buy a Tesla for less!!
EVs are for the DL dudes.
too much $$$
Its a GM with Honda Badges... NO THANKS!! I would NEVER own ANYTHING made by GM!!!
There absolutely no reason to buy this car. I'm betting it's not going to sell well at all.
Watch all your posts
Respectfully, this was the worst one I’ve seen you post
The spec comparo just completely seemed pointless. They’re all within 2-3% efficiency. It’s a wash.
Pricing, as you stated, has some more significant differences. As you also said though, isn’t this segment all gonna be $499-$599/month plus $4k down when all is said and done?
To my eyes, both the Prologue and ZDX are much better styled than others in the segment. They’ve also made a decidedly strong play in the EV space by having it present itself as an ICE vehicle - save for the striking wheelbase. Looks fantastic.
Lastly, what’s up with the GM bashing by some of the commentators? They have some of the best engineers in the world and Honda knows it. Hell, they brought to market the first modern electric vehicle.
This is a great hedge product by Honda as they pivot to their own platforms in the coming years.
Did I mention this thing looks fantastic?
I look forward to your future content, Kirk.
Prologue looks awesome I agree.
The equinox EV is on stop sale due to terrible software. Other ultium platform vehicles suffer from poor software too, and sure will the Honda and Acura EV. GM has good engineering, but not good enough software engineering
Look up Blazer EV Software controversy.
General Motors (GM) has stopped selling the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV due to software issues. The issues include:
Intermittent issues with in-vehicle screens
Problems using DC fast charging
Infotainment screen crashes
Fault codes that make charging the vehicle impossible
GM told CNN that those who have bought the car since it went on sale in mid-2023 will be asked to bring it into a local dealership for a software update.
GM has also made a controversial announcement that it would no longer support smartphone projection like Apple Carplay on its new EVs.
The Blazer EV shares the same platform with the Prologue.
How it looks is irrelevant if the car is unusuable due to software issues. Feel free to buy one if you want. I'm hard passing on their first gen EVs and going the hybrid route instead. Sport touring 2024 CRV offers so much more over the prologue for what you get for the price with more range. Best of both worlds.
@@KirkKreifels might want to check out the Ioniq 5 launch. Federal investigation, recalls galore - software related.
😊
no one is buying any of these non Tesla EV's
Idk the Nissan ariya is way nice than Tesla imo
I never said anything any of these vehicles being nicer than the other. No one is buying them
@@JasonLee-xg5ki I agree but once solid state battery come out with 500 mi+ range I’d consider
Funny, I think plenty of people thing being non Telsa is a plus, in addition to plenty of perks, such as wireless CarPlay, lack of panel gaps, not looking like a jelly bean, honest re: range, etc.
EVs will be the biggest flop in automotive industry.
Why has nobody really tried to use nitrogen/hydrogen to fuel cars. Shits everywhere
Probably not
Wake up Honda, EVs are CRAP make a Hybrid Pilot
Please stop with the thumbnails with you covering your mouth. Over dramatizing something is not what viewers like.
🤫🤭
You’re better of buying Hyundai or Tesla than buying this trash lol. Trash because if range
Hybrids are the future. EVs are for niche use
the Prologue is DOA
I would buy a bz4x before this Prologue. 😂
Prologue is better than hideous BZ4X even if it’s built by GM.
Dude are you paid by Toyota to promote hybrids? Governments all over the world already decided evs are the future. Deal with it. Yes this GM garbage is a hot mess with QA issues. Buy a different EV. Hybrid is old news.
I think manufacturers should start transitioning to hybrid only, while ramping up plug in hybrids, and developing better EV’s and charging infrastructure. It’s shocking how many people I know who don’t trust “these crazy new hybrids” it’s 20+ year old tech. I think the transition to EV will be so slow.
Are you paid by Governments?
Dude a shit load of people live in apartment buildings Where are all those people going to charge at night?
re: "Governments all over the world already decided evs are the future..." you mean FIRST WORLD Governments have decided, this is not to be confused with 2nd and 3rd World Governments (which are people too).
Do you work for the government to push EV’s?
As a long time Honda customer, I think Honda nailed it with the Prologue. It gets Honda in the game with a very nice vehicle inside and out, after a late start. If range, charge time, and performance are important, but so are panel gaps, regressions suck as yoke, loss of ultrasonic/parking sensors, turn signal stalks, lack of honestly re: FSB and range, spartan interior with screen where buttons belong, and supporting increasingly unhinged leadership. Prologue gets you wireless CarPlay, working parking sensors, and a vehicle that doesn't look like a jelly bean. Finally, I'm quite surprised that you seem to prefer better specs of Tesla vehicles that you'd give Honda Zero vehicles a pass. The tech specs will be particularly mediocre for 2026 vehicles, which is why Honda partnered with GM to begin with, they're way behind and this all can't be developed overnight (a.k.a. the next two years). Honda's not exactly learning the lessons from the recent lack of success for the E and e:Ny1. The designs also aren't a great match for want American buyers want, Zero aims for limited range (but high efficiency, despite lack of charging USA networks) and alien designs. Space-Hub. Really Honda?
This EV seems like it sas designed in 2015. It cannot compare with the BYDs NIOs or Xpeng
LEAST reliable Honda ever, Ultium platform = UNreliable GM garbage
