For me, I first saw Astro Boy in the 80s, Samurai Pizza Cats got me to know these cartoons were Japanese.
Sailor Moon as well as a few others from the mid 90s I got more familiar with the medium growing up as a kid.
Pokemon came when I was a teenager but didn't stop me from enjoying it and love for Japan grew from there.
Everything else from Love Hina, Mahoromatic and Midori Days made me anime fan for life.
To Love Ru being my fav Harem as well as Konosuba being my fav isekai while Azumanga Daioh my fav Slice of Life.
All 3 of them being Comedy Gold and Waifus in very different ways.
Video Games also played an important role, from Nintendo to SEGA to the JRPGs and even some Anime inspired games from Western Developers like Epix's One Must Fall as well as a number of RAREWARE games like Jet Force Gemini.
Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask as well as Skies of Arcadia had that massive Anime influence.

The anime that changed my life the most, got me to start watching anime was A Certain Scientific Railgun. It was the second anime i had seen and the first I watched knowing it was an anime. Mikoto Misaka and her friends hooked me in and while it may not be my favorite series, it is very near and dear to my heart.

I’ve seen all the anime listed here but out of all of them Fate was probably the one that had the biggest impact on me. I feel like I’m part of the super minority that was never confused by the watch order though partly because there weren’t as many spin-offs back then. Regardless, almost 10 years later I still think Archer from the Stay Night saga of Fate is one of my favorite anime characters ever which says a lot when you’ve seen over 1,000 other series.

*Date A Live, High School DxD-Opened the Doorway to Fanservice and Ecchi (hell) Paradise

Pokemon got me started, Sailor Moon got me going further, Spirited Away launched it all into space because of how breathtakingly AMAZING the film was. Ever since then I've gone all over the shop, but favourites are Inuyasha/Yashihime, Date A Live, Tenchi Muyo (many variants of) and quite a few of those that are so deeply squirrelled away few have ever heard of them, such as Steel Angel Kurumi, Fushigi Boshi no Futago Hime, Studio Apart Good Lighting Angel Included, Chilling in another world with level 2 cheat powers (NOT because Fenrys has a huge rack!) and a fair few others.

Here's my story with anime... and it's kinda the tl;dr.
As most I started as a kid, watching shows like Hokuto no Ken, Saint Seiya, Dragon Ball and Maison Ikkoku... yeah, I'm older than your average audience. The first that made me an actual anime fan was Ranma 1/2, broadcasted in Italy in 1997, and after that I started watching a lot of series (NGE, Trigun, Escaflowne, Cowboy Bebop...). My first subbed anime was Love Hina around 2002, which shaped my passion of romcom, and from then I mostly never stopped and watched a lot of the shows during the time they were airing (well, accounting for the fact that fansubbing was a bit slower back in the day) or when I could find them.
I still watch anime today but not as much as a decade ago, when I used to watch EVERYTHING. Now I just watch what picks my interest but after all these years I ended up with over 1300 entries in my MAL completed list. So, I obviously watched everything you named and some are among my favorite, especially Fate Stay Night (I played the VN before UBW was even announced), Steins'Gate, Madoka, Jojo (I did read the manga in the early '2000 so I was very happy David Production decided to adapt it) and to this day I'm still a huge fan of Shana and all the shows where Rie Kugimiya voiced someone. As you can imagine if I don't stop myself my list of "best picks" will be very long.
But if I have to name which anime "changed everything" for me I don't have any doubt: Clannad and Clannad Afterstory.

my first anime technically was robotech/macross, but I was too young to really know that it was anime. Just that it was different. I think the first one I can remember going into it was... hrm. Mightve been ninja scroll, or maybe bubblegum crisis.

Macross Plus OVA wasn't my first anime but it was the best of the first few anime I watched. Second place going to the Patlabor movies.
Ryoko from Tenshi was the first anime girl I liked outside of the anime she was from. The TV show was great with her first being portrayed as a demon but later on as a space pirate.
Martian Successor Nadesico had something special about the story and the music.
If you haven't watched Macross Plus you are missing out on the best Macross with the best music; Better music than Delta, 7 or Frontier.

    Here's my top 10
School Days - Honestly that train wreck taught me to always try to help by showing what not to do
Oshi no Ko - After Season 1 Episode 6 I learned to never be too harsh on a celebrity unless they deserve it and indirectly made me appreciate the St Anger album for what it was at the time
Fruits Basket (2019) - In a similar "Don't do what they did" manner to School Days I learned what not to do when raising a child (And this was one of more shocking anime because I was not expecting the Sohma Parents to be the way they are)
World's End Harem - No real reason just my go to Feel Good Anime (And this was also one of my "No Interests until my curiosity got to me" as I was turned off by how the UW ruled but thankfully it was mostly a background thing)
Elfen Lied - Yeah I learned to never judge a person by their appearance from Episode 8
Wonder Egg Priority - Probably my most influential anime for the first 10 episodes as I learned to try and help others even at their darkest days (Also that one scene in Episode 7 had my most intense reaction to an Anime even on rewatches)
Scum's Wish - Everybody has their struggles and sometimes it's better to try and fail then to never try at all
Shimoneta - For really helping me get out of a rut or two in 2020 (Also Ayame became my Waifu for that very reason)
CLANNAD After Story - Taking winter a bit more seriously (Which was already a serious topic dealing with Lake Effect Snow) and being one of 2 anime I can't bring myself to rewatch due to emotional reasons (The other is Perfect Blue)
Pokemon - My First Anime over on Cartoon Network (And yes the first movie has made me cry several times)

Since my childhood i had watched Anime though i didn't know what it's called. The show's like Pokemon, Dragon Ball , Doremon, bayblade etc.
    1. My dress up darling when the first episode aired. Before my dress up darling i only watched anime like Naruto and re zero but after that i stated consuming seasonal, non seasonal anime on regular basis.
    2. High school dxd one of my first harem ecchi anime followed by Rosario vampire and monster musume. It started my ecchi, harem road on which im still going on.
    3. Your name i never thought that an anime movie can be this beautiful and oh god i was absolutely wrong and now i have watched many movies such as spirited away, Silent voice, garden of woods, 5 centimetres per second, violet evergarden , bubble, Godzilla, etc.
    4. Violet evergarden , Beyond the boundary , these anime are wonderful for the very first time in my life they made me cry almost in every episode and the journey was heart melting ❤.
    5. 5 centimetres per second, school days these anime started pretty good but they gave me depression and i really took a back from anime for a while though for a different reasons. First one was really unexpected but it's accuracy about how life really works was amazing. After watching so many happy endings i thought it just another one but as the ending closes it's distance i realised this is not that kind of Happy ending one and I was surprised it took me some time to restart anime again but from here I understand there will be many sad ones out there. On the hand School days at first was really good a usual harem , but how the mc transformed and what he become was really frustrating and i was kind of happy to see his demise but I also think many girls didn't deserved the suffering. Overall it was a mess and i had to take some time off to forgot what i saw.

    I dropped Steins;Gate at least 3 times
Than one time it actually got me, I ended up staying up all night long watching it, went straight to work without getting any sleep that next morning, finished work, got home and finished the anime before going to bed.
Once I finished it I was left with this feeling of a void for a few days, like I lost something that meant so much too me. I enjoyed every min of the anime, it takes its time to get past the world building but when it gets going its a ride.

an anime that shocked me? blood-c or akame ga kill. I would have to say that dragon maid and violet evergarden certainly changed how I felt about what anime could mean to someone. dragon maid is my use in case of emergency anime. domestic girlfriend and high school dxd have to be in there for flipping on me and going from "plot-focused" to actually crying over characters. danmachi, mushoku tensei, and tensei slime would be my seasonal bangers of choice (waiting on arifureta s3).

Anime that are special to me:
Kayekyo hitman reborn: i saw anime as strong people trying to overcome odds. But this is about an anime of a "loser" put into a situation where he is changed and changes it only as far as he wants.
Anohana: the tears.... embaressed to say more but the tears.
Xxxholic: didnt think i would like a supernatural thriller show. But i adored Yuuko.
Freezing: Number 1 waifu and sad will not get an ending.
Monster musume: tokyo mew mww awakened my neko side but this got me in love with monster girls.
Sora no otoshimono : yes the mc is pervy but a nice wholesome side to him which makes him a bit deeper. Did i also mention he is beyon pervy xD. Ikaros 😢.
Unbreakable machine doll: a simple plot but fell in love with the characters and idea. The only time i started a light novel knowing cant know the ending because last 3 or 4 volumes is japanese only 😢.
Bungo stray dogs and k project: the action, power and style unlike any other.
Law of ueki, to love ru and black cat. I think i made my comment long enough but these are also really good imo.

I think A Silent Voice is one of the best anime out there. The movie showcases bullying in school, it's affects and repercussions, as well as showcasing depression, stress and anxiety among young people. I highly recommend it to anyone who shows the slightest interest in anime, as well as anyone who knocks anime as just being cartoons for kids.

My #8 would be "Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?" The title was a turn off. Avoided watching the series for years. On a leap of boredom, I bought Season 1 and started kicking myself. This title was exceptionally good. Well thought out. Emotional in the right places. Evolving characters. Smart backstories. It's a series that makes you want to care about the journey through the episodes.

Y'know, I tried to give Date a Live a chance - got to I think around S3 and dropped it. It kinda stopped being interesting for me and I wasn't as invested in the story - though that might just be my slight dislike to harem type stories.
Date-a-Live is not a bad story by any means - but it's not for me. As for Rising of The Shield Hero, it was the fourth or third isekai I watched and god damnit.
Shield Hero, Tensura and Skeleton Knight in Another World are what made me fall in love with isekai as a genre. And of course, let's not forget about the absolute PEAK that is Jojos Bizzare Adventure.

My first anime was Doraemon, Initial D (because I love cars) , Katekyo Hitman Reborn and that was my childhood anime.
But for me, the anime starters became chain reaction to me was Date A Live. I don't know what that hook me up to Date A Live series even though there's ton other harem anime more degen than DAL but mostly neither one of those eventually i skip it or left out in mid episode. Also, I got stunted by pure beauty of Tohka and she's definitely be my first waifu. Maybe that reason why i got hooked to DAL series. Coming from early 2000 or mid 2000 anime watchers, DAL anime designs does look pretty appealing for me.
And the rest is history, after that i watch other various anime genre like Death note, Golden time, Stein Gate, Durarara, Saiki Kusuo No psi nan and many much more.

If I had to choose a waifu it would be Miku Izayoi from date a live. My pick isn't that much of a thing but she was the one for me. I started watching from December 2023 and date a live is one of the first anime i watched( don't get me wrong i started watching anime from recaps and somehow date a live came in front of me. Note : I didn't know much about anime and what date a live actually was. It had taken me to the forbidden side of anime way to early). Even it was one of my early anime it had something that i couldn't reaist. Even after that i watched some harem anime(mmh ...dxd.. included. I didn't know it was way more cultural. I heard its name from online) it didn't affected me that much. Even as a stater anime i didn't think it would hook me up for seeing the four seasons. I even stayed up all night to see what happens and for my waifu i didn't think that i have a thing for her. The anime that really got me hooked was The Eminence In Shadow. The action, world building, main character, the side characters etc was very appealing to me. It was the anime that really made to have day dreams about it .
For the contrary I have watched 95 animes and still ongoing till july 9. Anime is really something. I was full pledge gamer . Playing day and night pushing my rank . I fell bad that why i hadn't watch anime alot sooner. Many good anime has ended also i couldn't stay with the community. I wish anime would have came to my sooner😢.
