DC - if you've suffered the choked out camp fires in the UCO grill as well: the mod of drilling holes in the side panels helps a lot. I drilled 5 holes into each long side. - 3 spaced level to the leg weld with middle hole at bottom of shield emblem and left and right being approx middle distance between shield point and leg plate -2 holes on side of shield emblem approx aligned with being in the middle of bottom side and bottom center holes O O _O_O_O_ For those wanting a visual reference that are reading along.
I made myself an emergency stove several years ago using a metal cake pan, a grill rack and four homemade alcohol burners. It was sturdy enough to hold a twenty-inch cast iron camp skillet. It would have been much too heavy to carry all that gear for hike or camping trip, but it was great for times when the power was out for several days.
I've seen those stoves before but I never have seen anyone use them for anything so that's a great idea, especially with the stove part. thanks for the video Dave. keep ye powder dry
great idea.. love my flatpack grill.... I did take a piece of rod about 4" longer then the grill and 2.5" in from each end put a bend about 20 degrees or so to drop into bottom of grill to hold the sides out... I found it a pain to slide the grill back on base after I got a wood fire going.. the side/end plates want to fold in on there own...
Dave you inspired me to move into an 5th wheel an start my own business. Thank you. I teach wilderness survival and basic bush craft work. That's because of you. I'm sescussful because of you.
Here is another of Dave's "find more than one use for something". Does the two different fuel choices count for two uses? Neat trick Dave, I just love it when you do something like this. My favorite still is the "SPRING POLE fire bow". ;-)
Ive a few pack stoves , aochol burners and a gas burner like that I keep in the pickup . Coffee kit , that skillet, 64 and 120 bushpots . Bottle water , drink mixes , spam , pork n beans, such , dish soap , ive used it to bathe in if I need it , generally I carry bar soap under the seat , makes the pickup smell good . Fishing gear , wild meat gathering system too ! Lots of times I'm out before daylight and after dark, going to and from doctors or hospitals. Pillows sleeping bags pads . Full sized pickup can sleep in back seat
Thank you👍. Too, couldn’t you use a tree branch carved down to diameter to fit in holes & cut in 2 so proper lengths. And wha la !!! … free bush-crafty solution. (There wouldn’t be enough heat below the flames to cause wood supports to burn.)
Have the mini used charcoal in mine at parks but they allow that here in alberta.....would this work on the mini stove of this? Might be to small maybe have to experiment 🤔
Dave, is there any way you can turn that grill on its side and use it as a reflector oven? I know the sides would tend to collapse in, but maybe just jam a stick in the bottom lengthwise to keep it from doing that.
Shish kabob skewers work great and are multipurpose also very light.
Boy, that sandwich looked great.

I've got the mini version of that UCO fire pit. Now I've gotta see if the same is true for it as well. Thanks, Dave.
What a discovery! Even better that those rods will fit in the pouch with the grill for storage and transport.

Great tip! I'll have to try it. I already have the folding grill and the Trangia.

Zahn approves. 🤣I love how he shows up. Saw his tail and it made me laugh.
I like that mod. Still compact and still light.
Well thought out modification, thanks Dave.
Great little mod there! Thanks for sharing.
Great 👍 video Dave. Just ordered one for this weekend. Going camping 🏕️. Can't wait to try it out. Rick Rochester NY.
I'm waiting for the cat to throw up a mouse on the table for Dave to cook for him.
Hey Dave! Love the videos brother. Appreciate the knowledge you give 👍
Very ingenious Dave, have a great rest of your day.
I was wondering where Zahn was. Figured he'd be there before it was over with. Always fun to see the cat.
Very cool!! Love the camp recipes too!
I have this grill is awesome. Works awesome
Whenever it's time to eat that hooked tail creeps into the shot. 🐈⬛
Wish they would come out with a Titanium version of the flatpack grill. Would definitely be a lot more lightweight.
Those mods are a great idea Dave!
That’s looks delicious!
Thanks Dave!
Thank you
Oh snap you got that good sargento cheese. Good stuff.
While you are eating I noticed a "Stove" behind you by your Right Elbow. I'd Love to see a video on that stove if you don't have one already.
That’s pretty awesome.

so at 5:47 that butter pops when open.. does that mean its going bad building up pressure>? or just from hot / cold difference
Well, I'm really hungry now! Lol!
My lunch today.

Gave UCO that idea 3 or 4 years ago and they did nothing with it, maybe this one will take
Suppose you need to fuel that fire.. Removing that grill may be a challenge.
I just searched and couldnt find your butter episode
I think I got the medium sized Uco flat pack so I may only be able to use one burner.
Also did i miss the homemade butter episode?
But can you also use the five and one fuel camp stove I forget the name of it I guess the multi-fuel stove I guess
Super slick mod dave
Just curious, your butter appears to have come fresh from the churn, do you have a local source or do you have a cow that needs milking twice a day?
I make it, have a video in this playlist
Bend that metal rod into L shape on one end so it dont slide out that easy
Which size is the one in the video? They make a small, medium, and a large.
Curious, is that skillet your new prototype?
Nope same 8” skillet we have had for about 5 years
Will it also work with the path finder Multiple fuel stove?
Why wouldnt it unless its to big
Ok
The 11th C is charcoal.
That has to be home-made butter in the jar! 🙂
Need this in Cali bc the entire state is a bird's nest ready to go up in flames with the slightest spark
