Im with Alan Smith, Im not normally a Tama guy for Rock drums. I love their toms but their kicks dont have any volume. I guess I just like a 45, double 45 or 60 bearing edge.
But you do make them sing. Ive said this before to you but Ill say it again, you are a genius at tuning heads. You get so much tone out of double ply heads.

I have never had any issues with Tama kicks lacking volume.

@@MrGuitarandvocals Yeah, it's real subjective. Tama kicks just don't have the same volume as the Yamaha Stage Custom Birch, Yamaha Tour Custom Maple. Or the Pearl Masters Maple Gum or DW Collectors SSC Maple or Maple Spruce.
Great toms though. I have the same feelings about Gretch. Great toms but under volume kicks.
Although I will say Tama's new Acrylic Starclassic Mirage and Superstar Birch 50th anniversary kits are fantastic with real articulate kicks.

My Tama kicks were 7mm in thickness. I can understand having volume issues with kicks that have a thinner shell recipe. I only buy thicker shells so I don't have to worry about this problem. My Pearl kicks are 7.5 mm and they are cannons. The toms are also 7.5 mm in thickness as well and they cut like a razor.

The 10" sounds dead.. Then the 14" sounds like its tuned too high. Not sure on the toms on this Starclassic kit. Hard to find a kit these days.

I know so many drummer’s that play this brand, especially hard-core metal drummers. I just don’t know what it is, but the sound of these drums just doesn’t do it for me at all. I don’t know if it’s the birch or not but they just don’t seem to project. I hear no bottom end no punch no warmth. That’s what my head hears

It’s the die cast hoops all around the toms that shorten the sustain, giving them a very focused attack, but also Evans heads tend to sound dead to many people’s ears, so that could be the cause. If you play arenas like most Tama artists, the sound is fantastic.
