Check the throttle body cable. I bought the Ryobi generator kit that comes with two of these 1800/2300 generators and a parallel cable. One generator worked find but the other would not shut off when I turned the dial to Off/Storage. I opened the side servicing panel to compare and contrast. I discovered that the cables into the throttle body were in opposition in how they were run. One cable came into the throttle body from the left side and on cable came in the the right side. Working on the generator that does not turn off, I noted the length of cable that was sticking out of the throttle body retaining screw. I loosened the retaining screw of the cable. I backed out the cable an ran it in the opposite direction, pushing the cable to stick out of the throttle body by about a half-inch, which was about the length I observed before I changed anything. I re-ran the cable, tightened the retaining screw and tested the generator after the change. The generator shut down as expected, using the Easy>>Start dial. With respect to this video we have a front control/display panel an back with the wheels. My cables now run through the throttle body retaining screw from the front to the rear of the generator. Flip how the cable runs and test it. I took pictures and will be complaining to Home Depot.

Thanks for the detailed description of the problem. Hope this helps other owners.
Unfortunately home depot didn't even reply to my email about a leak in the fuel system. I'm not sure if they plan to use the experience of the owners to improve their products ((

Thanks for the videos, they are very helpful. My Ryobi generator, which has barely 25 hours, has same problem but only with the Gencontrol application. It will stop normally when using the control knob. Could it be the broken wire?
