What happens when the electric goes out? Do you have a backup generator? A few hours without oxygenation with all those fish sucking up the air in the water will leave most of them floating on the top.
alan headrick I been planning this for the past 2 years/I got all the tank for under 300. in craigslist learn, plan and then build fish life cycle, pluming, electric, systems, habitat for humanity for used pumps good luck
What an awesome setup! I'd love to be raising tilapia but I can only have my fish outdoors so I'm pretty sure they would die in the Canadian winters. Until I can, I'm gonna watch yours instead ... Ever think about trying aquaponics and growing some vegetable with all those fish? Thanks for the look!
thanks for sharing this - i'm planning on doing an aquaponics set up for a private fish / vegetable subsistence framing project. maybe, if successful, potentially supplying a few local family owned restaurants. but this is not a "business" plan, I already have a job. this is a prepper project and specifically - education for me and mine. i have already spent more than 10 yrs keeping ornamental fish alive and i'm an established gardener. it seems, all gardeners / all aquarists are perennial students. as i watch, i'm trying to decide between old Craig's list fish tanks, or inexpensive above ground swimming pools, or commercial aquaponics reservoirs or, for that matter, salvage bathroom tubs from habitat for humanity. there are a lot of cost considerations vs yield expectations on the fish bone model of the decision tree :-) anyway, i'm still scratching my head... thank you so much for the info
what makes me wonder - you just have way too much fish to grow in 5 - 6 tanks, even if they all get 1 pound each - they wont be able to move.. whats the plan ? are you going to keep it as is or thin the herd?
By using Professor John Todd's solar pond system which is a self-feeding system one can achieve a fish to water density ratio of 1 fully grown fish per 4 liters or 1 gallon. 1 liter is 1 cubic decentimeter or a cube which is 4 inches on a side or 10 centimeters on a side. Check out the work of Professor John Todd or just call him and inquired about his self-feeding solar ponds.
Simply amazing my friend. I had no idea because i did not make the time to visit and share in your accomplishment. That changes this year and can't wait to see what two mad scientists can accomplish when adding veggies and worms to the mix. MUUUUUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
Hi Loren! I'm just new at fish keeping (ornamental fish) and I've just been recently interested in Tilapia farming and I'm looking at pursuing it as a hobby and maybe turn it into a business afterwards. I don't know anything much about keeping tilapias yet haha I'm hoping you could give me advice or maybe help me find or suggest sources for reading/learning materials. Thank you!
Hi doc. What age will you identify the gender of the red tilapia. Im just starting to breed just a few. I have 17pcs. Im planning to breed them. They are still 2months old or more. Please advice. Thank you doc.
im new into aquaponics where the grow bio filter is a grow bed with vegetables absorbing the fish waste with the help of beneficial bacteria.I see you don't have any plants. can you talk about how your bio filter works?
I really enjoyed watching your video. I am sure my mum would do the same thing LOL Question though, do you have an idea of the cost of operation with your little fish farm?
Hi sir, I am really impressed with your achievement and will like to visit you at your fish garden. I am trying to start a tilapia farm abroad, I want to know from how the system is setup and works, thanks.
Did you / do you now have a market for the fish? At what stage will you / do you sell them? I hear there is a market for just selling the fry but then there is shipping etc... so I wonder what is the best market that you have found.
hey i am from the caribbean i am going to start this project and see how it work out love your video tell me what do you feed the fishes what do they eat
if i may suggest, after 10 or 20 minutes give the excess food to the smaller mouths since they will be soft. i found if 1 tank got too much, there was never a shortage of hungry fish, when you have thousands
I feel that I understand the fish raising process but I'm not sure how I'm supposed to sell them. Do I cold call restaurants and markets or do I just post an ad on Craigslist?
Paul Bernard it is a lot of work and very rewarding, I learned almost everything from videos in the internet and sending questions to people that posted the videos
carlos I did the same thing now I have so many fish it is hard to keep up I have about 500 in a kittys pool 800galon grow out tank and having a hard time keeping it clean. I have change the water out once a week do you have any ideas lee taves
in the tank that is not connected there are 1200 fingerling I change the water once a week they eat a lot so the water is dirty now the other tanks since the bio filter is working 100% and I have a solid settling tank I change 50 gallons out of the 600 in the sistem
Hi there aquaphonics. I have 4acres of land that I want to develope into a Tilapia Farm with aquaphonics, but Im stuck on the layout. Anybody wanna help?
that tank with the 400 tilapia looks bad like the fish is swimming in their own shit, (just recently got into this aquaponics stuff, please correct me if I'm wrong)
Great stuff brother. i am so interested to do something like you but will really like to learn from you as you have already got by now a sound understanding of the tilapia growing system. please give your contact phone or email, i will reach you for advice, thx.
I am very much interested in setting up a fish farm in the Gambia, I have got land and am open for partnerships. If anyone is also interested in helping me on this venture you are welcome.
Ella Hi, Americans are so removed from thier food source that I doubt in a crisis they could survive. For instance; there is only a 3 or 4 day food supply in any city in America, what would happen if there was a earthquake? financial problem or, God forbid, war? its a good idea to learn how to grow a few tomatoes, fish, something.
Ella yes and there is no learning from having other people do the work for methe end in mind is to teach other so they can feed themselves helping other inspire other
golden rule of fish is 1 gallon of water for every inch of fish your tanks are way over crowded 50 fish at a inch long each is 1 50 gallon tank lose all but 2-3 tanks get IBC totes hold 250-275 gallons of water each set up like this ruclips.net/video/nvM1wr4D7_I/видео.html
Gene Loren so if you put a 10 inch oscar of other fish in a ten gallon tank do you thinks that's okay? No! You shouldn't even put 55 one inch fish in a 55 gal. Aquaponics and fish farming is different so seriously update your facts. If you think I'm in correct I'm very expirienced with large fish having many oscars and predatory fish like 3 foot long peacock bass
As a kid growing up in the PH, I eat tilapias every week. This would be a dream to me!
What happens when the electric goes out? Do you have a backup generator? A few hours without oxygenation with all those fish sucking up the air in the water will leave most of them floating on the top.
The more I watch the more I'm thinking to do this. I like how you slowly set it all up on a budget.
alan headrick I been planning this for the past 2 years/I got all the tank for under 300. in craigslist learn, plan and then build fish life cycle, pluming, electric, systems, habitat for humanity for used pumps
good luck
+LLorens Gardens i am looking to buy 2000 tilapia. were are you pocated?? please email me at spiros at flexyacting dot com

Woww amazing.. 👍
WOW...I currently raise thousands of catfish in my farm setup. I didn't know i could raise tilapia in tanks. Thanks for sharing!
Love it Carlos! You are doing a great job!
Thank you Sir for your honesty and sincerity ..... as well as encouragement
Great Info,
Your setup is awesome considering the price you paid.
Good job!
I love your setup, hope to start one soon
how warm is the water?
Great video. I think you will definitely need a grow out tank. As those fish grow bigger, there is going to be need for space. What do You think?
thanks for sharing this - i'm planning on doing an aquaponics set up for a private fish / vegetable subsistence framing project. maybe, if successful, potentially supplying a few local family owned restaurants. but this is not a "business" plan, I already have a job. this is a prepper project and specifically - education for me and mine. i have already spent more than 10 yrs keeping ornamental fish alive and i'm an established gardener. it seems, all gardeners / all aquarists are perennial students. as i watch, i'm trying to decide between old Craig's list fish tanks, or inexpensive above ground swimming pools, or commercial aquaponics reservoirs or, for that matter, salvage bathroom tubs from habitat for humanity. there are a lot of cost considerations vs yield expectations on the fish bone model of the decision tree :-) anyway, i'm still scratching my head... thank you so much for the info
Congrats Bro💪

no pictures, please share!
AWESOME
thanks for sharing
I appreciate your video and comments
Congratulations on your awesome work and great success!! I wonder how you market or sell your excess?
Awesome work! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
nice setup. there are a few tanks that are overhanging the stand. you may want to make that the tanks are fully supported so they don't break.
what makes me wonder - you just have way too much fish to grow in 5 - 6 tanks, even if they all get 1 pound each - they wont be able to move.. whats the plan ? are you going to keep it as is or thin the herd?
eat them.

@@darthvader5300 May I have the link to Prof Todd solar pond system?
Awesome. Good job. You need air in the tank with goldfish. I'm sure you know that. Thank you. :)

@LLorens Gardens Thanks for sharing. May I know how long you separate male from females?
im new into aquaponics where the grow bio filter is a grow bed with vegetables absorbing the fish waste with the help of beneficial bacteria.I see you don't have any plants. can you talk about how your bio filter works?

i like it .your tanks everywhere n all yo things too. it looks not organized ..but u know wat u doing..lol
2 years from now was it worth it did you make profit ? Do you think you could make more profit if you invested into something else
Did you / do you now have a market for the fish? At what stage will you / do you sell them? I hear there is a market for just selling the fry but then there is shipping etc... so I wonder what is the best market that you have found.

Nice video man! Thanks a lot.
Nicely done man.
Wow! That's a lot of fish, bro. What are you going to do when they start getting big?
he can sell the fry to others, and eventually, I figure he will be eating them.
That’s the thing he’s created the hatchery ; now he’s gotta figure out how to grow out a couple of thousand fish fish ha ha
What are you going to do with so many fish?
What do you feed them?
What do you feed your fish ?
if i may suggest, after 10 or 20 minutes give the excess food to the smaller mouths since they will be soft. i found if 1 tank got too much, there was never a shortage of hungry fish, when you have thousands
a1hardwood thanks
Can you explain some more about how the pepsi bottle helps in filtration?
great effort
what kind of pump your using and how much it cost?
This is beautiful!
Hi i really love the way you have these fishes together, how do you keep them from dying before they reach the size in the aquarium..??
I feel that I understand the fish raising process but I'm not sure how I'm supposed to sell them. Do I cold call restaurants and markets or do I just post an ad on Craigslist?
you need to have buyers interested in the fish, market local vendors , craigslist, pet shops
hi great job , i love your setup, i want to get into aquaponics and i need some detail info on the filter setup. Thank you.
Paul Bernard it is a lot of work and very rewarding, I learned almost everything from videos in the internet and sending questions to people that posted the videos
Tilapia fillet is soooo good depending on the cooking method
Why you stopped posting new tilapia videos ? Did the tilapia farm fail ?
how do u control the quality of the water?
What will you do with all of the fish?
what kind of light do you use ?
We're not allowed to have live Tilapia here in Australia...I'm trying to figure out a fish that might be similar in their breeding habits...
Hello, I'm looking to start raising tilapia fish as well, is it possible to chat?

yes you need to add and additional solid removal step this will help with the water quality also ad move bio media to help process ammonia
The solution is aquaponics. You don't need a farm for that you can do it in your backyard or even in your garage.
what do you feed the fry? young ones? adults?
Captain Tim adult feed ground up for fry to a powder
do you sell them or what are yo doing with them ?
do you sell them? how much per 100, or per thousand?
Respect! good job
Whats your sweet spot water temperature??
claudia gamino water temp 78, alkalinity 6.8, room dark for 3 days consecutive and day light for 20 hours for a week feed every other day
Did I see a piece of copper in the tank ? (connecting 2 pvc pipes) I thought copper in a fish tank (especially for eating) was a no no.
What is the purpose of this ?
fun, learn, help other
You and your Mom need to live like you treat your fish! Sad life!

You should get some IBC totes at this point, your fingerlings are to crowded.
the goldfish tank needs oxygen but that was couple years ago
How you know it's male or female

Captain Tim Just eat rice, corn, beans, and bread, you don't really need to eat fish anyway.
Ella yes and there is no learning from having other people do the work for methe end in mind is to teach other so they can feed themselves helping other inspire other
