I could watch, and listen to, this conductor getting the best out of orchestras all day. Thanks for posting.

The NKH sym. orchestra under mtro. Fedoseyev, brings out a sound that is astounding. The subtle melodic lines or Borodin's "robust" harmony, highlighted in a brilliant manner.(esp.1st, 3rd & 4th parts). It is the "distilled" outcome of 60 years of experience by this veteran of the rostrum.

Fedoseyev has his head in the score throughout the piece.

0:00 is a good place to start. ... I think I finally now understand why Valery Gergiev sometimes conducts with a toothpick sized baton. He doesn't really need the baton, but he knows that we crave to see SOMETHING. It would be so much more satisfying watching this if Fedoseyev was just holding a toothpick.

He conducts the way I do when I conduct my air orchestra in Bruckner.

Stating the time where a good place to start is, would only seem worthwhile to help those people unfamiliar with the piece to know straight away if the best bit is somewhere OTHER than 0:00, coz without that information, they'd have no reason not to start listening from 0:00. But even when the music really is better somewhere in the piece other than from 0:00, it's still not useful to give the time of that other spot, because even those unfamiliar with the piece aren't going to listen from a recommended spot in the piece that's not 0:00 -that's because they'd know hearing the preceding bars will result in greater appreciation of that best part that's further into the piece. I'm sure music-lovers know that the good bits are better when heard in the context of the entire piece. So what it all boils down to is, everyone will listen from 0:00, whether that spot or any other is said by someone else to be a good place to start. Some people may first do a quick check of one or more spots in the piece just to get an idea if it's likely to be their cup of tea-and if that's established , they'll then head back to listen to the whole thing from 0:00-but they won't sit there and make those best spots the start of where they listen from, by leaving it playing from that point until the end of the piece. I think Sleepy Joe put it best-"Aww, c'mon maaaan??!!". Wouldn't happen.

@@darrylschultz6479 I put in the "0:00 is a good place to start" just for my own use. It's not there for anyone else. It's just something for me to click to get the video going. I could click the play button instead, but sometimes the play button begins things too early, before the music starts. So I quit relying on the play button and put in my own button (so to speak) instead.
