You wouldn’t know it today, but 100 years ago, Sunderland was the biggest and most successful team in England, and I’m going to show how good they were, and how in the modern day they fell into irrelevance.
If you have any suggestions for any videos you want to see me make in the future, let me know in the comments below!

Thank you for your video!
Funny enough, I was a hater of Sunderland for a long time (it tripped up a few times the club I support).
And then my favourite player (who was so kind to present me his game jersey) appeared to be ex Sunderland and their Academy graduate. He told me a long story about some legends and people around the club, which helped me to change my mindset, quit hating ANY club and respect all of them. EFL has such a history and incredible legacy of football clubs which will remain legendary, no matter how low they are now!
...ironically, I might be moving to Sunderland this summer :)
Fantastic! Love to hear it! Thanks for the support!
Rather you hate us than pity us you plastic.
I’ve lived in Sunderland for 32 years. If it’s for work try Durham instead and just travel into the city. It’s a deprived area and there isn’t much to do
Sunderland have one legend and he was a geordie and lifelong Newcastle fan lmao
@@scotttowers1759think this is incorrect, Kevin Phillips was from the south of England
Great video on the club I love supporting..... Yeah.... Def not the easyest club to support but I still love sunderland and always will.... Cheers again... Great content👌
The club is in disarray ATM. The fans are up in arms about the new managerial appointment, style of play and lack of investment.
Yet more challenging times ahead for our once great club 😕
Sacking Mowbray was the stupidest decision we have made in years. Not a single person here thought it was a good idea
Love the deep dive.
Love the old clubs.
Good video, thought I was watching someone with 100k plus subs. Impressive editing and flow of the video!
Thanks so much! Much appreciated!
Great video mate 👍
Thank you so much!
@@RobboStudios No problem bro it's always nice to see when people shine a light on the club I love and our history. A lot of English football fans don't even know about it especially the younger ones unfortunately. It's heart breaking at times being a Sunderland fan but it just goes to show how loyal our fans are still getting 40k plus fans week after week even after all the rubbish we put up with. Sunderland till I die ✊🔴⚪🔴⚪

Don’t let Newcastle fans fool you. Sunderland are definitely one of the biggest clubs in English football and have contributed a lot to the game. Their fanbase is also one of the best in the country and have stuck by the club during its worst ever period. Hopefully the future is brighter than recent years

Thank you! Great idea! It's in the pipeline
I'm a Spurs fan and carry no flags for Sunderland but nevertheless I think calling them irrelevant is a bit harsh. Who knows, with a bit more effort and a little bit of luck we might see them back in the Prem next year. They might have to do it via the Playoffs but I'm sure 99.9% of their fans would take that.
At this point, I'd take just making it to the playoffs these recent years (other than getting to the championship playoffs o the first try) hasn't been the best, to say the least.
No chance we do anything this season with our board atm
I watched this and highly enjoyed this! I also watched the Netflix doco tho lol

This young man did his homework Well done but Will Sunderland surprise the football world ????
Well if Michael Beale gets a couple off wins in a row We will be be in amazement We the faithful 40K who go to 25 games a season
Yes we will be amazed.. Date 25th January 2024 will SAFC go up from 10th or down

God I hope we can get back to the big time we should be up there I’d love if we squeeze promotion this year but if not I’m sure we will make it in time
You never know! Anything is possible in football
Fat chance of that now mate we have been laughable lately now 6 defeats in a row
@@matthewharding6160Haha maybe next year
Very good video. Just a couple of small details.
1. We did get to the Milk Cup (League Cup) final in 1985 but we weren't in the 2nd division then, we were still in the old first division but were relegated that season, along with cup winners Norwich City.
2. It's worth noting, following this, we appointed Lawrie McMenemy as manager, making him the highest paid manager in English football. This was a disaster and within a couple of years we were relegated again to the old 3rd division, for the first time in our history.
3. Drumaville sold the club because of the 2008 financial crisis, which impacted them severely given their wealth was based on property.
I remember when Sunderland used to more often than not win the Tyne and Wear Derby and have players as good as Kevin Phillips and Niall Quinn play for them. The first Sunderland game I saw on TV was a 2-1 win over Newcastle in 1999 at St James' Park
Wow! I envy that man! Back to more enjoyable times

Ok why do so much people hate Sunderland just asking
Unlikely at present , now on manager number 3
Sunderland are a huge club dont let geordies tell.you otherwise.
Yes they are down at min and have been for a while , but i have worked all over the north east and north yorkshire, i can tell you they have many many fans across the land, problem is most fans from "out of sunderland" dont go to the match.
Most fans in sunderland don't go and watch the match too!
Most people who are into football go, i know a fair few from.up there, but yes some.dont.
Sunderland on its own cant support a big stadium like that , their population has dropped 30k within last ten years and now sits at 270k, that includes outer towns like houghton and washington which is split fans between nufc and sund
So really they need the people who support them from a bit further away to show up.
Newcastle geographically is in a great place surrounded by high populated areas gateshead, north tyne combined 400k the city itself 300k , (700k within a few miles of their ground) add on northumberlands towns like crammy, blyth, morpeth etc all pretty much newcastle support from there.
So easy for nufc to fill out a stadium with so many population on their doorstep, sunderland on other hand not so lucky in this case.

Irrelevance? There's football beyond the dirty cash grabbing Premier League. Clubs that are only "big" because they have the backing of quasi-fascist theocracies are irrelevant. Not a Sunderland fan but definitely a PL hater.
Haha good point. I used irrelevance because the Premier League gets 20 times more news coverage than the championship, hence the irrelevance in the world of English football 🙂
One day we will be back and beat newcastle again 😂

Some clubs are'nt allowed those allocations, especialy leeds and man u back then cos of the havoc they caused
@@bigal3364 I remember Leeds at home in the 1980s. We’d give them a quarter of the Roker End and they couldn’t fill it - see RUclips of the 1980 game. They’d bring maybe 1000. During that period we’d take 10,000 to Elland Road. I remember a game - 1976/7 when we had the whole end behind the goals and we had groups allover the ground. View RUclips - Leeds 1 Sunderland 1 1976/77.

If I want to hear music I will play music videos or put the radio on. Remake this without the music and I will watch it and no doubt enjoy it.
Good video object to the term of irreverlent , the fan base will never say their team is irreverlent . This was due to the poor investment on the whole and impatience ,
Shame that their most vocal parts of the fan base display an arrogant sense of entitlement that they belonged in the premier league. This is my viewpoint from a Lincoln city fan in league 1
Oh but Sunderland fan base is huge support is amazing and they are not arrogant

Sunderland are one of those clubs who formed first, before there was any competition in the country. They won 'titles' playing against like 5 teams on a sunday afternoon, using sticks and ropes for goals and refs waving hankies instead of blowing whistles. They really need to rethink what we class as a major title as its unfair on bigger teams like west brom and huddersfield who are ranked lower but are actually much much bigger.
