Luke you don't have to use an original van seat. I bought an entire Mondeo interior for peanuts, and used the front seats in my first van 9 years ago. Nice and comfy too
I had such idea, but finally basing on 2 indicators, I bought dedicated passenger seat after many weeks of checking offers each 15 mins :D (not to overpay) 1. was potential problems with tech yearly control 2. passengers' comfort - double seat do not have any adjustments fe angle of back side
Sometimes you can just turn the double seat around to face the inside of the van and you can access the driver's seat from the inside. Saves all that cutting and you have more seating as well.
I done mine...its very easy and takes about 4 hours. The hardest part is the sewing...I'm not very good at it, so have put a cover on it...you would never know it there lol
It's more easy to bue regular driver seat from Europe bus. The price Here in BG, second hand is around 100 euro. I bue for passenger seat English driver seat.
My experience both in UK with Movano pax seat and in France with the row of 3 rear seats removed - they are designed to unclip to turn a Peugeot 307 SW into a small van - if a seat is not in place they just say "Seat not tested as not present".
I nearly fell off my chair when I converted the amount into our currency! I was soo lucky that here they don't do that. On the other hand, what I could really use is a drivers seat from a lefthand-drive, wich I couldn't find anywhere. What I ended up doing is got a right hand one from a wreck, and welded a bracket for the seatbelt on the other side.
Hi Luke. In your initial chat to camera re' cutting the front seat in half, what is the spec' (and maybe even a link to) the led rope light in the ceiling please? I've been looking, but most of them seem quite low powered, whereas yours seems pretty bright. Regards Mark in the UK
The company called helian sent them lights to me. Look on their website, If you can't find them I'll try find a link. I made a video bout the lights and had a discount code it's prob invalid now. Search Luke's Van Life lights, should see it
you didn`t show or mention how she sewed the cover with the seam on the inside.. sewing inside out would do it if she managed to pull it up on off then slide it back down.. maybe mention it in the comments for peeps...
hi luke , love the seat idea . wont pay the ripoffs that amount of my hard earned. I'm a marine upholsterer by trade so am going to completely reupholster my front cab area . carpets ect , new headliners . door cards . do you have a link to max van life idea you mentioned for the seat hack . Great build . jist got my project ready to start
Awesome job! I’m thinking of giving this a go in my Boxer. Out of curiosity, do you know if I would be able to use a CTA single passenger swivel on it, after cutting it into a single? If the fixings on driver and passenger side are the same then I’m Assuming I could 🤷♀️
@@LukesVanLife thank god for that haha I have a vw crafter and replaced the drivers seat for a full electric leather seat from a vw phaeton for £60 very comfy there's many options out there
Very neat job Luke (and your Mrs) hope it stops people being ripped off! Really pleased with mine and credit to Max for giving me the idea! 👍 regards Mick
Nice job! Can't imagine my amount of cursing, handling these bits of fabric... :-0 What about the pyro belt tensioner thats now missing, any complaints from the ECU/ airbag control? For that amount of cash that single seats are on the market, wouldn't it be cheaper to import a seat from europe? Thx for the vid! :-D
I forgot to mention in the vid. Always disconnect the battery when unplugging and plugging them tensioners. No idea how much to import a seat. I'll have a look for the next van 😁😜
We did that to ours, great, we can get through to the back easily now, and so long, as the 2nd seat belt is removed, no probs with MOT😊
Thanks for posting dude! ✌️

Sweet! Looks great!
Great job!!!
How does it work when having the Van MOT’d though? Do they ask questions? I want to do this but worried about failing the MOT. 👍🏼

To think, used passenger seats can be picked up for around £30-£50??? 🤔

Would you do any commission work on my boxer interior? Or even just be willing to give me some guidance/pointers?

Hey did you find the answer? I want to do the same, cut it and add swivel, does it work? :)
Good job 👍💙❤️
Made me cringe a little when you was cutting the seat and the sparks were going towards that green gas box lol
Haha, that's an empty box, no gas in there 👍😁

Weird. How did this algorithm know that I want to know how to split a Fiat Ducato seat in half?
Haha. Not a Very detailed video but it can be done quite nicely :)

Cheers Luke I was thinking about doing the same . Take care mate. 👍
Good job . because the seat has been altered by yourself and not by a registered company your insurance cud be invalidated sad but trow
Not true in my case, the van passed mot no problems and I checked with insurance companies. All good 😁👍
Its exactly what i want to do in Betty2! Thanks @bettyourcampervan
