I think (not being the creator) the general idea is that a system of rigid indoctrination paves the way for even greater evils. When you live in a society where you allow those in charge to fill your head with their rhetoric, eventually someone is going to come along and abuse that system. While I, personally, believe that a certain degree of conformity is beneficial, even necessary for a functioning society, it can certainly be taken too far. There is no debate that tyranny and dictators thrive in cultures where the common person is taught never to question. Like all things in life, it's a balance that must be carefully maintained. You need enough conformity that a society can run smoothly and provide for its citizens the functions you'd expect (education, infrastructure, defense, etc), but you need to allow enough room for individuality so that its citizens will can evaluate critically when things are not working or when someone in power is trying to take advantage of them.

it was originally just a story about breaking a cycle.. your typical "rebel breaks the wheel" type thing. but then it evolved into exposing the results of forced fed ideologies (ideology represented by the liquid), exploring the vicious nature of power over others, as well as the transformative effect of gaining that power.
My interpretation: In an Orwellian world, the person who tries to question the existing ideology faces immense resistance. It is too late until he is successful. The previous notion of 'power' comprising 'tyranny' already gets well-etched in his mind. So, when he comes to power, he rules in the same way as the previous ruler because he doesn't know any other way. It is just like in Orwell's Animal Farm, the Pigs rule just like Humans; so essentially there is no change in the social reality, though it may appear from the outside.
I think the WINE represents KNOWLEDGE being passed out by other people or WINE GLASSES and the different wine glass refuses to accept on what was given to others and become one of them but he has been forced to. Theres nothing bad for being yourself , if you don't want others to mold your personality , just be who you are. Knowledge is a powerful everday weapon in life.
Wow this is beyond impressive. I love how expressive #585 is, you're able to characterize them so well with their poses. The sound design really ties the whole thing together.
I’m not sure about the meaning but all I can think about it how you can change the power/leadership. For example teachers fill us with knowledge just to have us grow into another number in society. Until someone questioned the authority and fought for it, then he was able to grow and start something bigger and better. But Idk why he ate the dude.
The first big cup is an ideology pouring into everyone's brain. The even bigger cup is a new ideology that rises up and revolts against the former ideology, but with most revolutions, not much changes.
@deadshot Slow peaceful rebellion usually results in actual progress for humankind, such as Ghandi, Mandela and MLK. Forced violent rebellion and indoctrination, as indicated in this movie, usually (not always) results in swapping one forceful ruler for another.
@deadshot The most relevant ideological battle might be capitalism versus communism. Obviously capitalism results in less starvation, but you still have a group at the top forcing their ideology on everyone and a group at the bottom barely surviving, no matter what you are being indoctrinated to support.
In my opinion the big glass represents the societal norms and morals and knowledge and the narratives which is fed no matter what and becomes the normal but when there is a rebel and another idealism or norm becomes stronger it starts becoming the very thing it rebelled against and becomes the new normal
I'm gonna be honest. This just kind of looks like the character became the thing he was afraid of in the beginning. Like some kid who was questioning the big book in sunday school, and then grows up to be a bigger preacher than the reverend who taught him. If the cautionary part is not to accidentally fall into line again, then I suppose this works. I just feel it would have been more symbolic of rebellion if the main glass had tossed away the chalk and chose another beverage or something. To me, breaking trend would be cutting out of line and choosing something outside the norm, even against the scrutiny of others.
i think its about how often times when a big rebellion or something does happen that more often then not the new powers that replace the old are more or less the same as the ones replaced. there are some exceptions, namely the rebellions that actually deserved to happen, but mostly everything goes back to more or less the same after such a thing just with a new chucklefuck in charge

Story of this revolves around a perpetual cycle which continues with ideology, the wine never running is referring to how ideas like this can be spread forever. The use of numbers is referring to how they expect cookie cutter models rather than unique individuals and how people are compelled to fit. When 585 doesn’t become a wine filled glass, it may be inferring that he was assumed to be inferior due to this, thus the laughing.

I'm glad you took the time also! I didn't intend the story to be cryptic.. I just wanted to express the corruption of the individual, to the point where the biggest tyrants come from the ranks of the ideologically indoctrinated.
Honestly, I just want to thank you for being such an inspiration for me! This animation has stuck with me over the years and I'm glad as time passes I can appreciate more and more things, like the music, hands, expressions and especially the sound design. So thank you! I’m not sure about the meaning but all I can think about it how you can change the power/leadership. For example teachers fill us with knowledge just to have us grow into another number in society. I'm gonna be honest. This just kind of looks like the character became the thing he was afraid of in the beginning. Like some kid who was questioning the big book in sunday school, and then grows up to be a bigger preacher than the reverend who taught him. If the cautionary part is not to accidentally fall into line again, then I suppose this works. I just feel it would have been more symbolic of rebellion if the main glass had tossed away the chalk and chose another beverage or something. To me, breaking trend would be cutting out of line and choosing something outside the norm, even against the scrutiny of others.
