  • History of Power Rangers is a series where Linkara looks at every season of the show and offers critical analysis!
    Jungle Fury concludes with dead people, guilty people, but most importantly: kung-fu fighting!

      Depending on who you ask, there was another Attack on Titan Abridged project and the Team Four Star guys cancelled theirs in respect, or there was a copyright issue that saw the videos taken down

    • @undeadMonk
      @undeadMonk 6 лет назад +13

      The 'respect' rumour comes from the fact that the English Dub hadn't been released when they made AoTA, so they took the video down without fuss out of respect for that. That killed the momentum of the project.

    While Dominic's speech about "To Kill a Mockingbird" may have fallen flat, it is clear that redemption is a big part of this series' theme. Many of the characters are seeking redemption in some form. Casey, who feels responsible for what happened to Jared, RJ and Finn for the rift that's formed between them, Dominic for not being there for Jared or RJ at first, and even the Phantom Beasts for not supporting Dai Shi 10000 years ago. The theme of redemption is perfectly summed up by Jared at the end: "It's never too late to start over."

    I dunno if you've been told by now, but the reason Scorch was alive immediately for the final battle is that he and Dai Shi were the same character in Gekiranger, a being known as Long/Mugenryu. Jarrod's counterpart, Rio, was merely being used by Long with the intention of making him into a harbinger of destruction -- the true intention of the mythical beast ki/rinzin infusion.

    Another interesting thing for RJ and him having a Wolf Spirit: I think it's to show he wishes to be a leader or teacher in his own right (or maybe also the "lone wolf" thing, but I think the "leader wolf" thing is what the show went for and is probably better). RJ wants to do things his own way and be able to get away from having to worry about disappointing his dad for doing something wrong, but he's also is quite happy to make friends and take in students and even trust that the group he's leading can be able to work together as a team in order to do good in the world, be it saving RJ from a pit-fight in the Villain HQ or helping him run the pizza shop.

    As I've posted on other sites, Linkara has posted this review on, this series holds a special place to me as it's the first series I was able to share with my oldest son. Even without that, it's definitely one I like.
    One of the complaints I used to read about on forums was how Casey kept losing confidence, learning to believe in himself, and then it would repeat. I always felt it was realistic. We don't completely break our habits in 30 minutes. We learn lessons, but don't apply them in every case. We fall back on the old habits because they feel more natural.
    My one question about this whole show is why can't Dominic make his own Zord the way everyone else can? It seems he's powerful enough and it actually does NOT seem to be an extension of their Power Ranger abilities at all.

    • @NoahDaArk
      @NoahDaArk 3 года назад +11

      Hell, I’d argue that Casey’s flip flopping confidence was a mental issue. Casey felt that he was responsible for letting Dai Shi free, and no matter how much he learned and grew that guilt remained, eating away at him. That’s why he didn’t earn his mastery rank until *after* freeing Jarrod from Dai Shi, because he still had that lingering guilt and needed to face down with it before he could become a master

    • @saphiriathebluedragonknight375
      @saphiriathebluedragonknight375 2 года назад +5

      My guess why Dom couldn't make his own Zord was because he left to soon. I don't think we even see his Rino Spirt. Casey could since he was a quick study.

    Serious question, why wasn't the special mode for the red ranger this season "white tiger mode" or something to that effect? You'd think it be a no brainer considering they gave the obligitory honorable member of the bad guys the same spirit power as the red ranger (or the other way around since the bad guys at this point are based on chinese zodiac). Seem like a nice way to make the sacrifice have some extra weight to it.

Laid back, always had advice to give and seemed wiser beyond his years. Unlike the god of useless he never tried to pick up chicks at the bar. Though thankfully RJ didn't have to deal with idiots like Kung Lao and Siro. Next time, apparently some people honestly love RPM or consider it to be worse then Overdrive or Turbo. Hopefully we can touch on about how Disney was doing everything in its power to kill RPM. Like with terrible time slots, little to no promotion and whatnot.

I'm sure he'll either finally figure out the song problem for In Space and post that or go for a whole remake of his Lost Galaxy review if he hasn't got that little song problem done yet. What would have been an awesome twist would have been if when Casey offered himself up to Dai Shi, Dai Shi saw Jarrod as as the inferior vessel and then dumped him and consumed Casey and then the next episode you have Jarrod forced to lead the team of rangers to save Casey, this would give Jarrod a better redemption arc and create more drama around the rangers trusting Jarrod and overcoming Casey who had just beaten the Dai Shi empowered Jarrod which means Dai Shi would be more powerful than ever inside Casey

    From what I gather, the Masters’ Sentai counterparts either didn’t have human forms or were stuck like that by the villains long ago.
    The stock footage using those animal forms marked a swift end to the second Beast War, and a decent explanation for where Dai Shi got the energy for his dragon form. I agree, they look silly, but that would’ve been really hard to work around story-wise.

    • @arkanamaster4961
      @arkanamaster4961 4 года назад +6

      The masters in gekiranger had human forms but use a beast-transformation to turn themselves in to monster forms of their spirit animals in order to fully master their own gekijyuken. And also Lio in gekiranger, Jarad's counterpart, wanted to master rinjyuken in order to get rid of the hate he had for most of his life and Long, Daishi/Scorch's counterpart, took that hatred he had and used it to gain his final form to destroy the world.

For a long time I never saw anyone talking about the season at all but after a while I noticed that the opinions seem to be very polarizing. Some people claim this is the best season while others are adamant it's the worst. Not gonna lie, when I first saw the episode where Whiger died when I was a kid, I was certain that Casey would use the white tiger spirit just the once to manifest a white tiger zord. On the other hand, Whiger becoming a White Tiger Ranger would have been neat. Like, something similar to Merrick in Wild Force, he could have been a human who was corrupted by the Generals, or being possessed by the actual spirit of Whiger, which would have strengthened his own White Tiger Spirit, then upon coming back to the good guys, he would have a color swap of Casey, either in base mode but white, or like Jungle Master Mode with less Red

      Damn... why couldn't he have gotten the Toxica/Matoombo treatment and been revived? I'm sure the Rinzin and Zocato energies must've been dispersed after the Dai Shi Clan was destroyed. (I love to imagine that through his good nature, he was rewarded with coming back to life at the end. His sacrifice was always bittersweet in my opinion and I love villain redemptions. Heck, even Casey called him a hero for doing the right thing in the end.)

  • @AlexTheOilersFan

    One of the reasons I love Jungle Fury so much is because of their usage of the theme song outside of using it as a theme song. I’m rewatching the series on Netflix (just finished watching “Ghost of a Chance Part 2”) and up until this point, they haven’t used the theme during a morph or fight once for sure, maybe twice? Now some could argue that this gives the impression that other fight music isn’t good enough, while I argue that the theme is a damn good one, and thus using it escalates the awesomeness of a fight. My favourite usage of the theme during a fight? When the spirit rangers join the team. Using the instrumental version and then continuing it into the worded version. Just amazing.
    The character development (especially for Casey) was astounding and every ranger got to shine in some way, shape, or form during the season. The villains were interesting and likeable, Camile especially, and the escalation of allies to Dai Shi felt natural and was handled well. The action was fantastic, the fight choreography was excellent, and even the Kalish-splosions were tolerable (though I never really had a problem with them to begin with). Overall, I think Jungle Fury is a solid 9/10. And this is coming from a guy who hated it (without even viewing it) because it seemed like a rip-off of Wild Force (this was before I was aware that Power Rangers was adapted from Super Sentai).

      This was an redemption arc, though. Jarrod was a jerk possessed by evil and while the villains addressed him as Dai Shi, his arc involved Jarrod's past and trying to get him stronger for Dai Shi's sake. But at the same time, the heroes occasionally talked about him and even referred to him as Jarrod cuz that's who he is. A former student possessed by evil who only cared about himself. It was always a possessive relationship, in this case, a villain using a jerk.

    transformed into animals in the finale of jungle fury is because. It was a gekiranger thing. because you see in the Super Sentai series jungle fury is based on gekiranger their masters were all animals. and the reason why they had them transform at the end of jungle fury is because a lot of gekiranger fans at the time were complaining that they changed the masters from Gekiranger into humans. personally though I never had a problem with that. I actually thought in some ways the Masters in jungle fury were more likable than the ones in gekiranger.

    I look forward to when RPM comes back. It's the season I'm most curious about in regards to the ones down from stupid copyright policies.

    Let me point something out. The highlight of Second Last Chance is the Rangers roll call; the 5 Jungle Fury Rangers, and the Spirit Rangers!

    It's worrying how in this season, it's a possibility and is super easy to rip out an animal spirit

    "Next time, we talk about the most devisive Power Rangers season."
    It's funny to think that there was a time where people hated RPM. Not just thought it was overhyped or was simply okay. I mean downright hated it. Now don't get me wrong. RPM is not a series without flaws (whoever thought adding shaky cam to the fight scenes seriously needed to be fired). But there's a reason that it's been seen as one of if not the best season of Power Rangers by fans in the last decade. And it took chances that Power rangers didn't take before. And in many ways, hasn't taken since.

    3:33 I thought the last time we seen 8 rangers toguether was on Mystic Force, not to mention that on SPD ther were 9 rangers on the finaly ( even thought Kat never use her Cat Ranger powers)

    I gotta call out the friend zone comment. It’s true men are not entitled to a relationship. However she’s not entitled to his friendship to time. If Theo didn’t want to hang out with her, that’s his prerogative. That doesn’t make him a douche.

    What's funnier in retrospect is that I wasn't introduced to Anna Hutchinson through this show. I knew her as Jules from Cabin In The Woods. Honestly, that making out with the Wolf Head scene makes a lot more sense now. XD

    Change the "highest form of the animal spirits" suits to just more spirit rangers to their respective animals. I mean, why not it's easier than those over detailed, albeit shitty, suits

    You know what I like your jungle fury videos, linkara, it's two thing 1. The whole master Mao is Shadis from AoT abridged and 2. Every single mispronunciation of Pai Zhuaq and what not, it just cracks me up it's the way you say it even your rants tend to crack me up, just a little bit and i think the reason why is again line delivery. So anyway please respond as soon as possible.

      That or just have Antfish redub all of his lines as Shadis with some assistance from TFS.

    Am I the only one who feels they kinda bungled the "lesson" for Casey, that "he should not be a follower to become a master" by joining it with the "Jerrod can't be saved" storyline? I mean, Casey's hesitancy to perform the mastery test could be lack of confidence, yes, but the readiness of Theo and Lily could just as easily be seen as being cockiness, assuming that "oh, we masters already, see all the stuff we did?". You'd think being humble enough to assume you might not be yet a master would be a good thing (I mean, look at Ryu in street fighter, all the fights he's had, and he still thinks he's not good enough to train someone else).
    Plus, having Master Mao yelling that "casey isn't trying to save jerrod he's trying to redeem himself" came completely out of left field, when Mao was the one who aggravated Jerrod in the first episode by just casting him aside (with violence) instead of approaching him in private. If anything, Mao should be the one who should be doing his darndest to redeem Jerrod, or at least, admit to Casey he was right and he was wrong.

      Mao was actually trying to say "are you sure it's not your irrational guilt blinding you or did you truly see Jared's light through dai Shi's dark shroud and cloak" though I see how it came off that way
