I caught my first fish when I was 5 years old (in 1942). I still remember the THRILL of that first catch. It was a sea bass caught in the Hudson River from our 24' cabin cruiser "KAREN." My Grand nephew still has my original first rod and reel and is still catching fish with it. Now, to preparing a fish: try broiling it, basted with lemon juice each slice dipped in Sauce Tartar before eating. OR....cover the fish with Progresso Italian Bread Crumbs and pan fry in buttered pan. Bon Appetite. the Old Coastie.
Ha ha, yea I recall my first as well many decades ago, although was bit older (8 maybe ??). Was with some friends family at some lake. Got it to the shoreline which had reeds and lots of grass at the edge, so they told me to give it a big yank to get it up. I yanked .... right through all those reeds and fish got off. They did not tell me I had to yank it up lol. Awesome that you still have rod and even better your grand nephew is using it. Fudge who knows where my first one is at now, buried in some dump probably.
My Dad bought my Brother and I matching 6' Bamboo boat rods and Pfleuger 1888 reels. When I moved from the Jersey Shore to Arizona in 1981, I gave my rig to my Brother's oldest Son. My Brother gave his rig to his youngest Son. Each of them now has a teen aged son who are the owners of those 77 year old rigs.....and are still catching fish with them....one in the Atlantic off Charleston, SC., the other in the Gulf off Houston, Texas. the Old Coastie
It was a rocky trip you had. Nice catching the fish. That sink snore would have freaked me out. I do love there is no music and just the sounds of life on the sea and your voice. Thanks for sharing. You guys Rock.
If you haven't already...time to sell....sadly I saw little enjoyment/ excitement about cruising that has been the consistent theme this past year or more..Back to K (my old hometown also) and new adventures!
Fishing is awesome... Catching is Heavenly! A tip if I may, There is a grip in front of the reel for a reason. Gripping the rod forward of the reel and planting the but of the rod will give greater leverage and control. CONGRADULATIONS!
I used to watch you when you first started, but your excitement was waning back then, now a year or so later, it is worse. I hope you find joy in your adventure... best of luck
The fish in the sea and the animals that roam the earth are here for food. Just think, you had the most organic, free range, freshest, right out of the ocean dinner that night. No grocery store can beat that. Remember, if animals weren't meant to be eaten, they wouldn't have been made so delicious... LOL
If this was the first time getting a fish. I think its a right decision to sell your boat. Your fileeting was perfect though. Natural talent. Get over with your crying about dead fish and you can have a fileeting carrier.
Drop your sail because you have to deal with the fish you caught. What. A sailboat is more stable with their sail up in this wind condition. CAmera can not capture how uncomfortable this is. Its brutal. Yes. Sell your boat. Rather. Keep on going. This can be a cult sailvlog. Stay put and you will be fine sailors in 2 years time.
Please stop complaining Tiff! Relax and enjoy the adventure. When you get cream and Greek yogurt, you will appreciate them so much more.

You guys are such salty fisherman
Seems you’ve lost interest at this point.
He certainly has! I think she would love it if she had a more psyched partner
You guys needed to slow down and take a couple weeks at anchor exploring rather than pushing these longer hauls. Keeps one sane and happy.
So much complaining. Seems cruising is not for you
