@@HopsANDgnarly I think the best thing is that you can take it outside, I wish I could have a proper space to mill outside, I can't leave mine outside as my dogs will eventually destroy the handle or knock it down and carry it to another place, so something I can bring inside once I'm done without disassembling everything is an amazing idea I'll have to study how to implement it at home
Thanks for making this video, I just ordered the ingredients for my first attempt at a hazy. Your content is fantastic! It won't be long until your channel explodes.
Great video your are the first person I've seen so this head to head. Personally I've switched to malted oats because of Janish's stuff about malted grains being better for oxidative stability.
It’s a multi video series working up to a solid recipe! It’d be a shame to share a half finished recipe and send people in the wrong direction. The final video has a recipe linked in the description 🤘🏼🍻
been a sub to this channel since close to day one.. as a home brewer i love this new focus on single beer styles! also your filming is on point.. keep it up ✌️ ❤️ 🍻
Nice video Braj! Love the setup! I appreciate videos such as this one comparing different variables. There's thousands of combinations for beers, so I love to hear what others think about different grains, hops, and yeasts.
Awesome fermentation setup. Curious are the butterfly values offered by Anvil? Could you share size of butterfly valve and where you purchased valve and blow off cane
Thanks! Nope they aren’t offered by Anvil at this time. I had a 1.5inch tri clamp port welded to the lid but you could also use a weldless bulkhead if you find one that fits the existing hole or perhaps widen it. The butterfly valves are from Amazon (1.5 inch tc) and the blow off arm is from NorCal Solutions. Cheers!
Love your channel and look forward to watching it each time. Anyway you could put together a music list? I’d love to just sit any listen to the beats that you put with your channel. Great work man
Great as always. Seems weird that mills don't come with a dust cloak as standard. Seems like such an obvious thing one would want. Great modification, didn't realise it was a mood until you pointed it out.
A friend studied brewing at uni and told me oats make a beer thin and oily with bad head so I’ve stopped using oats and now my beer is much better. It also means I don’t even need wheat anymore to correct the issues.
Do you adjust your temp on the foundry? I’ve noticed every time I set a mash temp it isn’t actually correct because it’s reading the temp from the bottom, not the top. I usually use a pump until it’s at the temp I want it. It’ll say it’s 160 F but my inkbird thermometer says the top is @ 154 F
Awesome video, I’m really digging this new hazy series, but I still can’t figure out why the kettle additions are in grams and the whirlpool ones in ounces lol
Measurements are super screwed up here lol. It doesn’t even occur to me that something is metric or imperial unless I consciously think about it. I think because they’re sold by the pound/ounce I use that when convenient. Saying 28 grams just feels wrong so I use ounces there
I wanted to go with a house strain to start because they can do pretty much anything. And you’re right on the money - I can’t wait to see the impact of some of their more juicy strains! Stay tuned!
Hey, could you do a short video of your mash process with the Foundry system? I am on my third batch and my measured mash efficiency is trash (51%). Water/grain ratio? Mash duration? Does your strike water differ from their directions? Any insight into increasing efficiency?
@@HopsANDgnarly I do. I bewed a NEIPA for my last batch. Batch size: 4.75 gallons (fermenting in corny to reduce O2), 14.75 lbs grain ( I threw in 0.25 lbs of rice hauls), 1.75 qt/lb for grain/water ratio, sparged with 1.1 gallons. Ca 131, Mg 13, Na 17, SO 97, Ch 196, NaHCO: 105. Measured pH: 5.3 I mashed in at 159. Held at 151 for an hour and raised to 165. Lifted the grain tub to the bracket and sparged. I'm I missing anything?
@@HopsANDgnarly Not really. I ran the grains through my local store's mill a few additional times but I couldn't tell a difference. I guess that's my next expenditure.
@@blakefaulds these fermenters have a rotating racking arm. So once you cold crash you can just keep that tube above the trub and everything is left in the fermenter

@@HopsANDgnarly That's a new offering. But, $50/box upper on the base cost & a 3 box minimum is quite the increase. I think I'll stick to my LHBS supplied can brites and my trusty colored Sharpies. Thanks for the info though!! - Love the Channel, too.
Another great video. Do you ever wonder about HOP utilization with the spider? I notice the wort is not moving much inside the spider. During a boil my wort inside the spider has very little movement. Your vids make me thirsty.
Thanks Jon! I do wonder about that but I’m too nervous to throw them right in since I’ve been using a plate chiller. They’re a nightmare to take apart so I want to avoid gunking it up. With a counter flow or other chiller I’d be more bold
To add to this, you put the hop spider in the middle of the whirlpool so the wort is flowing around the hops and not through them. Would it make more sense to have the hop spider on the side, so the wort goes through it and therefore gets more contact time with the hops?
I also enjoy manually cranking my grain mill. Just like a coffee grinder. It's an enjoyable experience. Sit back, relax for a few minutes, just mindlessly rotating a crank.
@@HopsANDgnarly vienna sounds different, although interesting. I prefer pils, white wheat, sometimes flaked oats, malted oats, and carafoam. Carafoam isn't really needed, I just like to add it in for little extra head retention
Dedicated malt cart is pretty genius for easy clean up and storage. Nice vid man!
Thanks man!

Hi! At what time did you do the dry hopping?
A friend studied brewing at uni and told me oats make a beer thin and oily with bad head so I’ve stopped using oats and now my beer is much better. It also means I don’t even need wheat anymore to correct the issues.
