  • In this episode, Thaisa Comelli facilitates a discussion with Tomorrow’s Cities partners from Nepal, who have worked across Kathmandu and Rapti. Together, Dilli Poudel, from the Southasia Institute of Advanced Studies, Vibek Manandhar, Rajani Prajapati, from theNational Society for Earthquake Technology and Basanta Adhikari from the Tribhuvan Institute of Engineering, explore what it means to plan cities, engaging with long-term thinking and future visioning methodologies.
Using the case of Rapti and its designation as the new capital of Lumbini Province as a point of departure, the team reflects on how rapid urbanisation and climate change are transforming local communities, reshaping space, and influencing natural hazard risks in the region. They highlight how community-led approaches, risk informed tools, capacity building, and bespoke hazard and impact assessments can help shape a more resilient future.
