It seems to be more a total War than ultimate general... I prefer general as it was easy to place troops. Here, it seems placement require much more care and attention.

This is all fine, but its driving me crazy he initially let the enemy take the small left hill and set up arty at the beginning. And when he's in position with extra units, doesn't immediately send a unit up to take the battery out and leaves the high ground to the enemy until they start pushing his men back from the barricades.
Then he thinks to try driving the enemy off the hill...

Watching this does make it curious how infantry combat changed from these odd rows to all out urban guerilla warfare in Stalingrad. Like why weren't there assault infantry tactics like those of WWI or WWII? Nevermind, there's definitely flanking in this form of Napoleonic style warfare

@@errordump Thanks for that info! Yea because then the Civil War is a strange hybrid of both the musket style yet 20th century guerilla warfare, which makes sense as guns were developing more and more range.
I guess 100m isn't all too impressive for max range. In WW1/2, guns had sights of 300m+ but at that point you can't even see the opponents anymore! Plus with all the smoke, debris, dust, its too much Fog of war, can't imagine what its like, cheers

Like you, I beat the first British attack on the left by a good flanking attack of my own. Unlike you, once I got it over with, I swung my left against the British hillside guns and then into his centre attacking Breed’s Hill. I also seized said guns to assist in the push at his centre.
I won with heavier casualties than you, but enemy casualties were also proportionally higher, though the ratio is about the same as you (we lost more than the Brit). Importantly, I seized 12 cannons and captured three enemy formations, one even still has more than 100 men remaining in it. I think it justified the aggressive approach.
I feel that a defence is incomplete if it is not a mobile defence, with counterattacks at the enemy flanks to chase him off the field.

"Leadership" in the British Army in 1775 was, at best, mediocre. Rank was obtain in almost every case through purchase, not merit. There were some exceptions to the rule, in that some who purchased rank also had talent, training, skill - but this was as I mentioned the rare exception. This is one reason the U.S. forces outperformed the British in many instances (not counting equipment difference). Rank and respect of the men was earned.
