Wow amazing. I live in London uk and I am an amateur bible collector and have many old bibles that need this sort of treatment . I am 65 years old and would love to be able to find somewhere that would be able to give an old geezer like me an apprenticeship in this skill.
ric david Find a Book Arts Center and ask about classes. I’m 69 and just started. I’m repairing my friends broken books. Nothing as complicated as this, but I’m learning. London does have a Book Arts Center.
I have a couple of young books, only 1770 editions; before I start I thought I might try restoring some old paperbacks, maybe put a leather cover on a copy of Sir John Manderville's Travels c1983; see if I can make look like a 15th century edition !? You only get skills by doing and making mistakes !?
@@jollyroger7624 yes you are right about practice it does not make perfect but it improves the technique i have moved onto a 1576 bible now and using japan paper to fix the cuts and niks etc is an interesting experience also trying to source facsimiles of the missing pages is proving to be pretty difficult but its an interesting journey
@@jollyroger7624 Well done mate delivering furniture i did that for a while that was a tough gig. I am a Christian i got saved late in life . There is a saying my late pastor used to say, " if you are saved this world and life are the nearest we will ever be to hell and if you are unsaved this world and life willbe the nearest we will ever get to heaven". Its a sobering thought and its important because we all become dirt sandwiches sooner or later. Are you saved Roger? if not dust off your bible and look at 1 corinthians 15 v 1-4 all the best .
When you watch how the book lays open all the way through at the end, you can’t help but say “stunning”. Amazing work
What a beautiful art form book conservation is. Thank you for sharing this process. 🤗
