15 yeas ago, you couldn’t have said an Enfield was more refined than a riding mower. It’s amazing how far they’ve come since. Almost like a different company.
I knew I would not be running mine till spring. So I drained the gas (not trivial on a bike with a low tank and a fuel pump. ) And run the bowls dry. I hung a mower tank on another "project" and ran it a bit to before I also ran the carbs dry.
A weekly shakedown ride is also good for the rider. Especially if you can ride 2, much different, motos. It knocks 10 years off of me and makes me feel younger than I am. In fact much younger than most people my same age. Moto riding is like the fountain of youth. 👍👍
Despite my recent accident, and my own fear rising to that of both my wife and mother about potential for far worse injury, I'm determined to get back out and ride when weekend weather cooperates with me picking it up from the shop. They joy and stress relief that I've gotten from a good 3 hour ride exploring previously unknown roads is the only therapy I've had that's ever worked. It's dangerous for my physical wellbeing, but little else has done as much good for my mental health. I've missed it badly these past 2.5 months, even as my minor injuries have healed.
I have to admit, I'm often surprised when people come up and talk to me when I'm stopped somewhere with my 2003 Sportster. It's not a "big" Harley, and I'm hardly an intimidating looking person, so no reason for people to be scared off. But I guess other people like the look and sound of it as much as I do and are looking to chat. Kinda fun when I'm not in a hurry. But I guess the retro looks of older designs like the Evo Sportster or even more retro looks of the Janus is appealing to people. The Janus is also more rare than the ubiquitous Harleys. Either way, lots of fun!
It's a rare experience for me, I like to think I'm a swell guy.... but virtually all my adult life Ive had friends who confide that I intimidated them before they actually got to know me. Ive was asked to leave a bar once because I intimidated the other male patrons- no lie that was the exact wording. I was like "wtf?". I was just having a beer minding my own business. I do have a strong personality though and my wife says I have a natural scowl that makes me look mean and unapproachable, so I literally have to make myself put on a happy face when I go out. Ive has a couple other bikes that people would ask about but the Janus has been over the top. I should put a hidden camera on it and do a montage video.
@@UncleVoodoo well, the mannerisms that are most valuable for a Gunnery Sergeant are bound to make someone less naturally approachable. You never know if someone is angry, bipolar, or just has "resting bitch face". I've always looked like a harmless dork even with my expressive face that doesn't hide irritation well, so I intimidate absolutely no one. :P Sorry to hear that you got asked to leave somewhere while just minding your own damn business, though. Maybe you just need to have Jobu with you when hanging out at the bar to demonstrate that you have a sense of humor that balances out the unintentional scowl. The Janus really is just an unusual looking bike. The way I handle my vehicles, though, I cannot justify the price that's mostly about looks. I feel bad enough about not keeping my 100th Anniversary Sportster clean and pristine, but my priority has always been more about functionality than looks (though I do love how it looks, aside from the rust and grime). The Janus bikes are way less powerful, way more expensive, and I'd be afraid of breathing on it wrong, to say nothing of accidental scratches. Its like when I didn't buy a neighbor's fancy furniture for cheap when she was moving away because I knew it would get damaged by my cats or my wife or myself not being gentle enough. I need functional that can take some abuse, especially after I crashed on Oct 6 when an SUV turned left into my path (I'm fortunately OK). It's so frustrating, though, since the Janus really is a SWEET looking bike.

When the air its nip in it, I start adding Stabil to all the gas I use in the bikes and power equipment. , so I don't get caught out.
Nice run Uncle!

You're the man of mystery: 2 bikes but no garage, on the Blue Ridge but no accent, no visible means of support....
I clean my bikes,..alot.
I'm originally from California.
I work as a delivery driver.
@@UncleVoodoo big unc, I’m 265 and 5’11 . Am I going to have any trouble on the gt? As far as power?
@@LeeWeltyI wouldn’t think so, I’m 6’ and 210lbs
Making a deal on a gt now!
I do the same. Can't understand the people who put their bikes up for the winter here in Texas.
The only time I stop is if there is snow, ice, or salt on the roads. People around here think I'm nuts. They may be right, I don't know.
We’re up in the vista you around?!?!?
Now? Sorry I’m in Staunton
@ yep but all good, we’ll plan better next time but we might have maybe just done 1881 on a Honda Helix 2 up😅
Sadly, that is not an option for 5 months of the year where I live.
