    #12 Thank You for giving us this video! I sailed the Grand Trunk Car Ferries from where the SS Milwaukee Clipper is new tied up. My last trip on the Clipper was in 1969. I have been on the SS City of Milwaukee, SS Grand Rapids, SS Madison---all GT Railroad Ferries.

    Watching this video makes me feel very fortunate to live right here. This summer I've gone through this channel almost everyday on my jetski.

    Great footage, better than anything I've seen on Lake Express' own youtube channel, thanks for posting. As a Milwaukee area native I've yet to ride on this thing... hopefully soon.

    Don't go down below. Stay on the top. That's where the beauty is especially at night. The pro tip is to stand right behind the tower @4:12 and you'll find this really quiet spot where the wind is completely blocked by the tower. It's breezy, but really quite nice. You'll have the place to yourself because - just like Toby did - everyone scurries down the stairs to get out of the wind.
    The first time the boat fires up to full speed, you'll get blown out by the 35 knot winds. That gets old fast. So find the quiet spot and enjoy the ride!
    Trivia:: Buster Keaton used to spend his summers on the area to the left (south) side of the channel.

      I liked the benches at the back. Wind in the hair!

      @@nutsackmania yeah, that’s good, too. Sitting down below seems like a waste of the experience.

    We took it the opposite way on a day they were promoting sea sickness pills. We thought it was a sales ploy, but wife and kids found out they were telling the truth. It rocked most of the way, enough that it was tough to walk.

    You should of went up to Ludington and took the badger to Manitowoc Wisconsin. Seems like you get more of an experience on the badger and plus she's the last coal fired steamship in the United States.

    I didn't realize the ferry has to go through the channel. That's a nice, long, no wake channel.

    I rode the Lake Express, and hated it. Next time I'll take the Badger.

      No. That is a rescue skiff. Like boats are inflatables.

    Does not look like much of a wake, too bad I was hoping to see Ben Gravy back there.

    It looks like a fun time and an interesting service. But it is very expensive when you figure the car fee and the cabin fee are both paid separate. You are talking hundreds of dollars here. Maybe it makes sense for business people that do work in both cities respectively? For the average traveler that is pricey according to their website IMO. But you would cut off some time of going down and around the lake too.

    • @TobyWitt72
      @TobyWitt72  7 лет назад +1

      It is very expensive. It was nearly $200 for a one-way trip just for myself and car. That's too expensive for your average family. It may take several hours, but you could certainly drive around the lake for a lot less.

    • @Willis81
      @Willis81 6 лет назад +1

      Not only is it very expensive you never know if the damn thing is actually going to cross due to weather. The badger is a significantly cheaper ($150 for a car and person) and can run in much rougher weather. There is something special about taking the Badger as well. Lots to do besides sit in a lounge.

      @@Willis81 I'm planning a trip in June. Muskegon to Milwaukee on the Lake Express and then Manitowoc to Ludington on the Badger.
