FuryTomic define fake. Either intentional or really has no clue. I think cluelss seller. Theyd try to pass it off and make it look right. This is an abomination that some one bubba'd and now the nephew wants to sell and is clueless.
@@oldblindy5625 That seems most likely.
Either a found or inherited gun that someone who knows nothing about firearms is trying to sell.
In some way that thing could actually get quite the price. There aren't so many Berthier/Mauser/Steyr hybrids out there that are actually semi-safe to fire.
Videos like these should be a series it would be gold. Harkening back to the mystery rifle video from I cant even recall how far back the good ole "French-iltian carcano".
seems like someone made a frankengun, then sold it, then that person wants to sell it not realizing its a frankengun because nobody can be that dense
My friend bought a M-4.24 Tactical (M4).
He received along with a handwritten warning to not TRY to load 5.56...
Because it was a .22 with a after market conversion kit.
I mean, it's still one of the nicest .22's I've seen but still, lol.
You know in a weird twisted way it’s almost admirable
I know right. I mean it's faked status is without question but it's obvious a lot of work went in to it. A shame thaf person didn't put those skills to more productive ends.
Purge Blade #231 I suspect his efforts were put to very productive ends. I seriously this was made to fake a Berthier, but just to make a useable gun out of broken stuff he had lying around. And he made a cool little toy. But years and owners later things someone believes it is real.
@@88porpoise Idk. If the rifle has no sights and is beating its way out of a poorly-conceived stock, I wouldn't really call it a usable gun.
Dream Services International the stock was likely split because the rifle was being used. And not having a sight now doesn’t mean it didn’t have one.
@@88porpoise I'm pretty sure you understand what I meant by that, but sure. If something destroys itself upon use, I suppose in some literalist sense, you could say it's usable ... or at least that it was briefly usable.
fun listening to your detective work. The guy should probably sell the parts.
He probably will make more by selling them as parts
Ian is officially in the Hawaiian shirt crew
Join us in the great arctic shuffle
It's a Bawidamann Apocalypse Now shirt. Personally I wish Andrew would go back to doing military pin up art, like my logo.
Ian McCollum: Boog General
Reminds me of the "I went on the Internet this week, and I found this..." bit from Top Gear.
I have a strong feeling the current owner doesn't know he was hoodwinked when he bought it. If he was trying to hide that it was a kludge of parts, why show a close-up of the bayonet with that copper reducing ring?
The seller said that he didn't know it was a fake. You are correct.
Upon seeing this video, he immidiately updated the description that he was fooled, and he took the sale out
Clearly of the Alsace-Lorraine, Sir.
All of your successes are well deserved, Ian.
Thank you for years of incredible work product.
Heh, more like Bubarthier Lebel M16 carbine.
That thing is a disaster.
If it's cheap enough, you need to buy it, Ian. Do you think you'll ever see such a chimera ever again?
I'd have to wonder if an old gunsmith didn't just had some free time or a "You know what I could do" moment. Then hung it on the wall. Then someone went and fired it.
Like the revolvers reworked to have the barrel pointing backwards and advertised as a Polish Dueling Revolver.
A number of years ago I saw a museum show/display of counterfeit items covering all sorts of fields (fine art, clothing, wine, and of course money) but I don't remember firearms being one of the areas. It is a fascinating topic. Thanks again for another great video Ian.
Almost looks like a khyber pass frankenstein gun
Careful this guy might just try to list it like that if/when this current listing fails.
Khyber gun would literally be a martini, AK, AR, HK, knock off abomination of all sorts
I wonder how old the mods are? Could it be from occupation? I was thinking the same thing. Maybe a resistence rifle.
@@DT-sb9sv Yeah that was what I thought. You would imagine there was a pressing need to go to the trouble wouldn't you?
@@DT-sb9sv That would be comically ironic if it turned out to be a Resistance rifle with a story.
It was very interesting hearing about this Fakiest Fakes because you as a firearm expert can easily tell the difference between a real gun and a fake. Thanks for explaining us Ian.
"1500$ I know what I got"
Serious offers only. No lowballers.
H O T B R O W N
A whole series of "interesting fakes" would make for some lovely quarantine viewing!
The shirt celebrates 50 years of Apocalypse Now. Hella cool, mine just arrived today.
I like that remark at 1:42 about rarity of original clearing rods is followed by the swift demonstration of a carbine with rare original clearing rod.
The sheer amount of effort someone has put into mocking this up is honestly impressive,Thanks for putting this up.
Also loving the shirt.
Here's the designer's IG if you're interested. If you scroll back a bit, he's actually got some of the references and early sketches posted for how he got the helicopters to fit into the pattern. instagram.com/abawidamann/
I’ve never even touched a gun,
But I’ve been watching enough c&rsenal and forgotten weapons that I was able to pause it and call out half the things Ian then mentioned.
I’m proud of myself :)
Other youtubers: Exposing people and creating a lot of drama.
Ian: I found an old french carbine with some dubious parts for sale on the internet.
this went from from a fake to a piece of art i actually want this
You know ian had been spending alot of time at home when he starts ripping apart fake ads 😂 😂 love you man
I know just about enough about guns to fire one, and clean it after I'm shown how. Seeing Ian just call out what rifles these parts are from from a picture fascinates me. This is why I watch this channel.
If it's cheap, you should buy it and make an official video. Not because of any historical relevance, just because of the sheer audacity of making this franken-rifle.
This would Imply that Ian comes across several Berthier's a day.
Seller on GunBroker: "nO lOw BaLlErS! i KnOw WhAt I hAvE!"
Actually he did the opposite.
The shirt is worth the view all by itself. You have to be a dude of the highest rank sir. And it would be fair to say, a bit like fake profiles on dating sites, actually working out how and why it is a fake is possibly more fun than finding a genuine item.
Like if you think gun jesus should start a series called "strange guns found online" and does a discussion like this.
Pls
Abso-freakin-lutely.
Ian needs to see this!! Please up vote this comment!
Always a pleasure as a french to watch Ian videos about french guns😊. Funny and strange fake Berthier indeed!
This rifle is really interesting. Is it a con job, or something more ...storied.
If guns could talk
@@kylo-benshapiro687 They do, just with a very limited vocabulary.
@@csours Mostly limited to "click" and "boom".
@@csours I wish I could understand gunese
I personally don't think it's a con job. The seller himself states french rifles are not his expertise/interest and if you calculate the cost of all those parts from other rifles, its almost the minimum bid. If he was actually trying to scam someone he would have put it up for at least twice that price and its more likely he himself got scammed into buying it.
As someone else commented, the seller took it off sale and that he didn't know it was fake, but thanked Ian for the review. I think at this point, he was just excited that Ian reviewed his rifle.
Blue Hawaiian tiger stripe? Never thought I’d see the day

Even knowing nothing about Berthiers, that bit sticking out the bottom is a giant red flag.
In French, they call it "Le Bannerman Especial"...
so you told me that someone took parts that are probably worth more separate, and butcher them into a "Berthier" frankenstein?
Please tell me this was reported to GunBroker...
It was. By a few people now I imagine.
Please tell me the guy will re-list it as "unique hybrid"
HappyBeezerStudios - by Lord_Mogul as much as I get annoyed with all the fake listings on GB...I legit laughed at this 😂
The poor guy probably doesn't even know.

You just made 20 new friends and one enemy!
"Berthiers actually have a fair amount of recoil"

The Berthier carbine actually kick quite a bit because of its lightweight.
