My interpretation of the song:
Looping thoughts from manic depression serve as a constant reminder of life's futility. And its exposure has poisoned the well of any relationship; family, friends, and lovers. And it's predictably inevitable. The manic highs allow daily social interactions to have their innate charms, while the depressive lows kill them all before they show progress. It's the slow fall at the start of a descent into madness. Those who fell before can be seen discolored and deteriorated away from the rest of the cheery green world. And being detached from a structure of support is a loop in itself. Those who are still hanging on will see the fallen ones as needing to find support within, as they continue to be nourished by their own external sources.
