What a great video! This looks like a beautiful town and one that is still thriving. The folks you interviewed seem to have such a passion and love for their town and for creativity. I love how Liz described what Appalachia means to her. That chainsaw art is definitely an art. What talent and creativity. I have heard it said that one thing that really makes a town flourish and grow is the arts. It looks like it holds true for these folks. Another great episode. Keep them coming!

Now, I don't know how you do this, but watching this video afforded me a feeling of nostalgia and familiarity - like, "yeah, this is how Josh's video excursions into hometown communities feel. I can relax and kick back a little and feel like I am there for a bit". I couldn't put my finger on this specific sensation until watching this one. I love wood, and the woodwork in the buildings is "to die for" beautiful. I like the comment at the end: "making the outsider feel welcome". I'll add that to my list of traits/characteristic of small-town America. Beautifully done!

Thanks Greg! Heading north had me out of my element, I'll admit. The internal dialogue revealed how it feels to approach a place with certain preconceptions, even biases...but what I discovered was so welcoming and disarming. The great folks across these United States really have more in common than not. As always, thanks for watching!

@gregdelaney119 I remember the West Virginia episode Tony Bourdain did, and how transparent and candid he was about his own prejudices- yet his views changed by episode close. That has stuck out in my mind, and has been a big influence on my own cultural journalism.

When I heard the B&B woman mention the elk herd I had to comment that all of Appalachia can thank Kentucky as we are the State where they were re-introduced into the region and now can be found all throughout Appalachia and possibly beyond. Oops..forgot about Bob. Liz as well like you said has been there forever. I wasn't trying to be a jerk either, I just wished more of the local carvers had been featured since that was the essence of the video. I grew up there and plan to return one day. My mother was a huge supporter of the original couple years of the event as the director of the Elk County Tourist Association back in the 80s and 90s. I was thrilled to see your video and will keep an eye out for more on the area. There is so much history there both locally and even nationally. @@MountainRoots
