everyone gangsta until you reach the city levels in prboom
Very awesome, impressive! Leagues beyond what the retail one does. With some work it'll be the best choice for engine accuracy.
I do like the gun sprites in the retail but what I'm finding is the PrBoom one is more fun to play now due to the much better control of the player and the guns autoaim working properly.
But yeah still needs work though.
@@Kippykip Would it be possible to render the weapon sprite separately from the ingame visuals in order to draw proper looking ones?
@@KillThad Could be possible, I know GBA Doom II retail actually uses real GBA hardware sprites to draw the weapons which is why they're low colour and don't react to brightness.
But I think doomhack made the renderer stretch the render width by 2X using a funky hardware trick so it'll have to be something to play around with whether weapons can be drawn on top overlapped last or something.
yeah framerater
Honestly the a few of the behaviour changes are cool in doom 2 gba, the chainsaw is more believable in that it isn’t just a melee version of the chaingun and the sound stuttering like a gun, the chaingun has a higher rate of fire, and the plasma gun’s rate of fire is quite a bit faster and the sound it makes is even more deafening!
Even if the original GBA port isn't ideal, it would've been really cool back in the 2000s to have it, especially with a GameBoy Micro. PrBoom port is amazing as well and shows just how far the GBA hardware can be pushed in the right hands, and the music is awesome!
Interesting, and nicely done. Thanks for uploading.
I love how the prboom hombrew music sounds like a bunch of different old land line phones ringing!
Yeah it's still only temporary, we redid it for doom 1 however and that sounds pretty accurate
I like it
Interesting, I'm curious how the prBoom Version would run on overclocked hardware (Gba Accelerator)
3:00 The placement of that red cross symbol and imp anus couldn't be more perfect.
bro they both be kinda gaming doe 😳😳
Não consegui abaixar
E fazer o patcher
Sempre fala que deu erro quado eu começo
Do you know if the ''MAP20 - The Citadel, from DOOM II on Game Boy Advance'', the map, doesn't even have, 100% secret, on the map, know about it ?
I have both games on GBA and they’re both fun imo
just interesting: how game feels on 240x130 resolution? choppy framerate? because your port (and original one) use 120x130 resolution with 2x scale every horisontal pixel
The newest version now has 240px sprites now, just like the GBA Doom II retail version!
@@Kippykip yeah, tested it yesterday, enemy looks better at long distance,helps a lot. sad that gba doesnt run doom on native res :(
Kip, methinks you ought to start selling custom/modded GBA cartridges (albeit for commission only to perhaps keep things legal,) with PrBoom preinstalled and instructions for the user as to help them with mod and wad installation via their PCs, no?
I have seen many people sell customized GBA carts containing multiple games or Rom hacks via Etsy, AliExpress, and eBay so I think you may be onto a potentially lucrative idea amongst us in the DOOM community!
I'd love to do that as a fun side project, I wouldn't know how to get started however and I'm not sure where to start when it comes to chip writers etc.
Hey, I'm having some trouble installing the Doom PC patch. I managed to do it just fine with the second game, but the first didn't work in three different roms (two of them gave me a blue screen and the other got stuck in a white screen).
Make sure you use a good IPS patcher (like lunar IPS), but more importantly use a *clean rom* of Doom. No-Intro rom dumps are pretty good if you find one with that in the header.
If you download that crappy rom where someones hacked in a weird mario looking cracktro at the start that was thrown a ;ot around in the 2000s, then it definitely won't work.
MD5 Hash of the rom should be: *A4078F38DBB47AB22A9C74B725F3E481*
SHA1: Hash should be: *AF2B2206777651C7993C1AE9008D07C31430207E*
I'm sure if you google one of those hashes you should find a rom site pretty quickly ;)
@@Kippykip thanks, I'll take a look into it but it's probably the patcher I'm using and unfortunately I don't have access to Lunar IPS. But still, even if I don't manage to do it, great job on both mods. You managed to make it look like the PC version without losing playability.
Hopefully you can add the corpse disappear effect in a future update.
Where is the comparison with the Paint Doom 2 version though?
Paint GBA PrBoom when? 😳
I NEED that intro music in my life
I find it interesting that the homebrew version has somewhat downgraded music. I'm guessing this is done to increase performance.
I imagine it's due to a completely different file structure
As stated its WIP, it's sourced from some dude that ported the doom tracks to FastTracker for some retro WAD years ago.
Doom 1 music under PrBoom sounds exactly like the PC quality music as it was properly converted over and time was spent on it.
@@Kippykip So the quality of the audio doesn't have an effect on the performance.
@@rjmario2234 Yeah surprisingly not, although the more sound channels for music currently playing per track can cut out sound effects sometimes if there's more than 5 or so.
Gameboy Advance has a "Programmable Sound Generator" chip - same one used in a Sega Master System. So they're all chiptune renditions in prBoom. Retail doom 2 uses the CPU to generate the music, which has to be balanced against rendering more frames.
Yeah epic
4:00 I think the reason why in the PRBoom port the imps aren't in the secret is because they came out to attack you.
Good point, maybe the torus retail port doesn't have as sound propagation
I know if some one contacts the author of this Doom port to configure the controls layout which will make gameplay alot easier and faster to do.
GBA DOOM 1 AND DOOM 2 CONTROL LAYOUT
L= strafe Left
R= Strafe Right
B= Shoot
A= open door and run
Select= previous weapon
Start= next weapon
A + Select= Map on and off
A + Start= pause and menu
There was a controls update planned but I never got around to it
Taken tag tournament 2 OST?
;)
It's just Doom II but low detail mode lol.
Since this video there's now a high detail mode now, so now it's just slightly smoother with worse music and fully uncensored.
@@Kippykip Where can I download this?
I like both versions of it,and regardless of whether engine they use as long most features from doom 2 are supported.
Trough i think the hacked retail version is the best because pro doom 2 just have bad music.
Now port the Nuts trilogy.
This is sadly not possible due to hardware constraints
Better yet Port Chex Quest 3 and configure the files from .pk3 to .wad to be compatible with prboom.
Great video - I agree that the prboom is the best way to play now: it just has the best ‘feel’ to it. On to Brutal Doom for the gba now then............? ;)
i already did that a few months back with kippykip
That's What I said!
Amazin
🗿
bruh
Doom is so fun on gba
yo kippy, i finally got a gba sp now i'm waiting for a flashcart to play gbadoom
Awesome! Which one did you get?
@@Kippykip Japanese AGS-001
@@Kippykip I finally got a supercard and an sd card, time to play some DOOM
The prboom is much better and accurate and mods can be created it’s far better.
