  • Mango trees are not commonly grown in my hot desert climate but are one of my favorite fruits and one I have always wanted to successfully grow and fruit. Mango trees can be challenging to grow in non-tropical climates (like arid deserts) if these elements are overlooked: rootstock vs soil structure, irrigation, and sunlight exposure. I’ve had failures over the years but have learned lessons and am now seeing positive results. I would like to see more home gardeners in a similar harsh climate avoid the challenges I faced earlier and succeed.
I am excited to share an update to the video, New High-Density Mango Seedling Area - AZ 9B from 2 years ago (linked below) of a 100 square-foot planting of mango seedlings in my non-ideal Phoenix Arizona area (one 9B) yard. It also shows progress from the expanded varieties planted in 2023 and 2024. Check out the progress and learn more about this young seedling experiment.
