The thing with Throne and Liberty in korea and japan is that both those gaming populations truly like and enjoy many features that we in the west actually dislike. Much of the trashing on Throne and Liberty is due to the LACK of pay2win (or progress, or convinience, use the euphemism you want, p2w is p2w). Not having stuff like autocombat, not having a heavily p2w shop, all those are FAULTs in the eastern markets. Koreans particulary LOVE p2w. Then you have the whole "Lineage 3 when" +15 years waiting for something, and this WAS supposed to be THAT game. For koreans this topic is huge, is like, idk, a World of Warcraft 2 or something like that. So they also feel kinda betrayed on that end. And after both those huge factors, you can just enter to talk about the game itself with it's pros and cons. For the koreans it was a hoax that ruined any chance of Lineage 3, for the west is probably gonna be yet another uninspired korean grinder with uninspired western-fantasy aesthetic: Discout Black Desert. Also Guild Wars 2 hopefully gets a bit tighter writting this upcoming expansion, less filler quest, less unfulfilling personal story instances. Kryptis were such a cool idea... Till they wrote them as average humans doing average human things like politics, war and betrayal.
They want those options because Asian workers generally have little free time. It's work -> an hour or two do stuff if they're lucky -> sleep -> work -> repeat. That schedule has little to no room for leisure, so when they have some they need to use it well, which includes just being able to get things. They love P2W because there's no other option. Getting X through gameplay is simply no option.
@@darensgw2 Yeah, there's plenty of pretty slop in Asia. It's actually quite impressive that NCSoft could produce something for Asia that was too sloppy to be worth it.
Sales were down in its two biggest divisions. And global market recession. Equals sell. Also you pointed to the inccorect value when showing gw2 earnings. There is a number above.
Just a question, If GW2 consistently performs well in terms of revenue, is there a potential for another large company to buy the rights for GW2 off NCSoft? Is that legally possible?
To be honest, I am not sure why so many content creators are negative about Throne & Liberty. To me, it is actually a beautiful and fun game. It is also free to play. The servers are buzzing with players. Recently they opened it to other countries especially South East Asia. Something Amazon left out. If GW2 incorporate the graphics of T&L, they will have the best of open world.
I mean if you like the game thats fine but I just hate everything it stands for, the p2w, the preorder, the clunky combat, the UI and mobile elements its kinda hard not to hate it for me. I also dont like people selling snake oil over it cause I really dont think its gonna work out and I wouldnt want someone to buy it thinking otherwise.
Earnings give you almost no information. In Finance you always compare them with other metrics and get ratios by it. So if you really want to make deductions / logical Statements about NCSoft or financial health of any of their products you need to dive deeper. Sorry mate, really like to watch your other stuff but this is just some reading of coffee grounds you are doing.
Global economy is shit, so staying afloat could be considered a win. Idk.

P2w is more of a china thing, FF is from Japan and as far as I know it has no p2w but is quite popular there

Bikinis were not Q2 earnings. Bikinis came out right at the end of Q2. Most of the sales from that were in Q3

Possible but very unlikely I think, ncsoft makes a lot of money with them and im not sure who would be interested in buying them out
