    I have used Knave for 3 sessions now, and the monster compendium is really handy even if it's small! You can run a so many different setting by just re-skinning the monsters provided.

    I spliced Knave's item slots / wounds into Shadowdark, replacing bleeding out or death saves. I thought it was a great system.

      @TheMotleyGM-ij6rq  26 дней назад

      That does sound pretty awesome...I may try that!

      I did the opposite in that I spliced Shadowdark’s darkness and roll-to-cast rules into Knave 😆

      @Wesley_Youre_a_Rabbit excellent choice!

      @@TheMotleyGM-ij6rq it improves survivablity at low levels and reduces it at high levels. Upon filling up all slots with wounds, the player is dead dead. While wounded, the player character is inconvenienced, having a persistent injury that takes time to heal. The hp recovers quickly, the wounds recover slowly. Losing hp is losing plot armor, wounds represent actual bodily harm and depending on the nature of the attack, the item slot is replaced by a subjective descriptor that gives penalties.
      Some game effects that I made up that would give exhaustion levels in 5e like starving or being dehydrated gives wounds directly and bypasses hit points. If this happens to an npc or monster, they take triple damage as they don't have wounds.

    Great review. Knave and Maze Rats are both excellent games . The tables in Maze Rats are some of my favorites, so it was nice to see Knave 2e continue that tradition with a ton more tables.
    As a collector myself, there was a limited print release of Knave 1e a couple of years ago. I have it. But I can’t remember who published it.

    I haven't had the chance to play yet but I have Knave 2e and its so so cool, and also I think worth it just for the random tables even if you don't use the rules.

    Personally I lost my interest in D&D ages ago. Austin Walker from Friends at the Table actually did a great job at getting me interested in ttrpgs again through small but interesting indie systems. My favourites these days are Lasers and Feelings and Hellnight. Both are very simplistic and fun first systems. Looking forward to watch more if your series, maybe I find my new favourite system.

  • @swordsnstones
    @swordsnstones 17 дней назад +1

    Knave by @QuestingBeast, Mr. Milton, was a very big influence on how i wrote my own OSR adjacent [lol] game. Very cool books, awesome tables, and very well laid out. My game borrows several concepts, such as classless, but we also are only human characters. I have the pdf copy of Knave 2. Big addition to my collection.
    Cheers
    Keep em rollin

    I really like this game for all the reasons that you stated. Also, I like that Ben doesn't waste pages on campaign lore. This lets gms use the tables to create their own world.

    • @QuestingBeast
      @QuestingBeast 18 дней назад +2

      It's not specifically written for solo, but the huge number of random tables should be helpful. Check out the video by Geek Gamers on Knave for ideas.
