- UPDATE...Since making this video, Quicktime is no longer installed on all windows computers. Quicktime can be downloaded for free from Apple Support.
This video will show you how to open a PSD file on your computer using the windows software you already have. It will also show you how to convert PSD files to JPEG, which can then be used in Windows Paint, etc.

@thecomputerperson2 If you've got Vista or windows 7 you can find the Snipping tool by clicking the round start button on the bottom left hand side of your computer's task bar and type in "snipping tool" in the "start search " located at the bottom.
If you have XP, you don't have the snipping tool, but you can download one from microsoft.

In desperation one night I tried to open a PSD file with everthing I had, even notepad! I nearly fell off my chair when Quicktime opened it.
Click on "Start" and type Snipping tool into the search and it will appear under programmes. Right click on it and click on "open" to open the programme.
Could your Quicktime be out of date?
Quicktime updated it's programme again today, and I have just downloaded a PSD file and opened it using the latest update with no problem.

To my knowledge there can only be two reasons this has happened.
The first reason is, the file you are trying to open is corrupt.
The second and more common reason this occurs is because the Quicktime installed on your computer needs to be updated. RUclips wont allow anyone to post another website link in the comments, but, it you google apple quicktime, you will see the free download link.
@Sepoy18 Windows 7 does have a snipping tool. I'm running vista, so I just went to microsoft's website to check it out for you. Microsoft has a video and also written information on the windows 7 snipping tool.
You tube won't allow me to post the link, so I will email it to you.
For other people reading this comment with the same problem, the link can be found by googling "How to find snipping tool windows 7" Microsoft's site will be listed at the top of the page.

I know this has nothing to do with this but i really need help! On my computer i have no idea what happened but it will not allow me to open my folders steam etc. Well i can open them but it appears as it's minimized and it stays minimized i can't do anything to get it up. When I open the PSD file with Quicktime, it just pops up with a black Quicktime screen. It shows the name of the file at the top, but nothing pops up. Can you help please?
I downloaded quicktime and opened my image finally! Alhamdulilah buuuuuuut heres the big problem, the thing is not able to convert unless I buy it. Or is it because this was 2years ago it was free?So annoyed!!!

+EliiY シ I didn't open it using quicktime... I used snipping tool which windows 7 and up already provided in your computer...To make it short, snipping tools capture the image based of what you have selected...

@ForshMS Your Quicktime is out-of-date. If you download the new free version you will get picture viewer. Just google Apple quicktime and you will get a link to their latest version.

It took me a long time of trial and error to open my first PSD file. But I had to keep experimenting because I couldn't afford Photoshop LOL
