    i wish there were PBA events where all ball spec restrictions are lifted and we could see the companies go full-crazy on ball design. i bet a ball that was designed from the ground up to be 20 lbs would be absolutely insane. probably wouldn't happen even if we had golf-tier money but it's fun to imagine.

    You should look at using tungsten to weight it. Much denser than copper or even lead and can be found pretty cheap in the form of scrap granules.

    In the 1960' & 1970's the Action Bowlers Definitely were using balls that weighed 20+ pounds and also used soakers on heavy oil. I remember picking old manhattan rubber Balls off the rack and those things were so heavy it was sick. I rolled one and it hooked without even trying. • @feverdream2661
      @feverdream2661 2 года назад

      This is exactly correct. But they cannot pour the hot lead into the ball. They would need to make a mold of the hole first. Then they can melt some lead into that exact shape. Sand some off the edges of the casting so it slides into the bowling ball easily. Then finish off with the epoxy pour to seal it all in.

    Earl Anthony bowled a pro/am and exhibition match for youth where i bowled and worked over 30 years ago. Afterwards, the manager (my Dad) asked me to carry his bag out to his car. I was a wiry little kid just over 110 all dressed and there were only 2 balls in his bag but it had to weigh 45lbs at least. It was a long walk and 4 flights of stairs. After smiling and shaking a hundred hands all day, he looked a bit concerned as i picked it up. (before little wheels were invented) But I made it. Too winded to say anything but I made it. Thank you Ebonite. His ball crushed like the one you made, just a lot more often.

    It's momentum you're looking for, not just weight. Momentum = Mass x Velocity. Bowl faster to get more momentum. You can easily see this when observing those huge men that can throw a ball very fast. They can make so much momentum they can destroy the lane equipment. They get so much pin carry, the pins go down if the hit any place close to the pocket. Most lane mangers will speak to them and if they don't slow down, eject them from the lanes!

    Sounds like a fun project.
    Lead (~11290kg/m3) is probably the most economical next step and you also might might be able to get away with melting and pouring it straight into the ball (lead has a melting point in the low to mid 300s so there may be enough thermal mass in the ball to absorb the heat and not crack) as well which would help further increase your weight over using shot or beebies. You could probably get a similiar outcome without risking the heat stress to the ball using cylindrical moulds to form the lead weights you put in the ball but that's more effort (probably worth it).
    Mercury (~13600kg/m3) is a step up again in terms of density, comes in a liquid form and possibly economical however probably too toxic to risk putting in a bowling bowl given a rupture will result in a nasty mess.
    Anyway best of luck.
