Lee Moses' 1971 LP on Maple Records called Time and Place has long been the Holy Grail for R&B and soul collectors, and one listen to this Atlanta musician's scratchy and funky guitar playing and his raspy and throat shedding deep soul singing style should be enough to convince anyone that he was indeed a great lost soul treasure. Moses, who died unsung in Atlanta in 1997, recorded a handful of singles for the Musicor, Dynamo and Gates imprints in the late '60s and early '70s as well as that sole LP, and Castle Music has finally put all of it together in what is essentially a complete recorded works package. It's easy to hear what all the fuss is about. This guy was the real deal, playing and singing with an uncommon passion and tracks here like the powerfully emotional "I'm Sad About It," the funky and name-checking tour de force "Got That Will," and the stunning ballad "My Adorable One" (there are two versions of this song included here, and both are gems) should have been huge radio hits in a fair and equitable world. Also impressive are the instrumental versions of "Reach Out I'll Be There" and "Day Tripper" which were originally released as a doubled-sided single by Musicor in 1967, both cuts exhibiting an engagingly ragged and soulful exuberance that still sounds fresh and vital forty-odd years later and show Moses to be a finely nuanced and undeniably funky guitarist. But it is Moses' searing vocals that will garner most of the attention, which is as it should be. Taken as a whole, this edition of Time and Place sounds like a secular gospel meeting with Moses' singing passing for a fired-up preacher's impassioned sermon as he shouts, growls and purrs through the ins and outs and the ups and downs of love as convincingly as any soul singer one can name. That Moses never had so much as a regional hit seems criminal and his death in 1997 in complete obscurity is an incalculable tragedy. Big thanks go out to Castle Music for bringing these remarkable lost treasures of Lee Moses back into the world. [Time and Place was also released with bonus tracks.

How something this good can remain obscure for all these years is such a sad type of miracle.
I'm just now discovering this and here I am over 60 years of age and have lived in Ga. all my life.
Ohhh, que fuerte. Yo también lo acabo de conocer, es una joya.
I'm only 47, but have been obsessed with 1960's music since a child. I'm constantly being turned on to artists/songs from that period & the well never seems to run dry. Friends will show me records or links from 60's artists I've never heard of, & I typically at first thought assume it's because it sucks, but I'm continually proven wrong & amazed. Long live 60's soul, rock, funk, etc...!
Bad Girl par Lee Moses de 1967 (générique de fin).

The stink-face I'm making while listening along just means I'm enjoying, carry on
bad girl part 1 & 2 are a masterpiece
Les trois derniers morceaux aussi pour ma part.
When he says “if loving you is a crime then gimme time ‘cause I’ll always be guiltyyyyy” I screamed, threw one hand in the air, clutched at my heart with the other hand, and slid out of my chair.
Why you gotta hurt me like that, Lee?
Can somebody explain to me how on earth this man wasn’t as big as Pickett or Redding? Incredible soulful. Thanks for uploading
espaninan 4 the only reason that “fame” has, sometimes, nothing to do with “talent.”
They say for every hit there's at least 10 others that were as good if not better
It’s simple, the music we hear isn’t necessarily the best music, it is the music we are sold by the businessmen who own and operate the music business. We’re told it’s the best and there is a huge, money-making apparatus that works to support that notion. Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t, but my guess is that you have a neighbor or someone you work with who is every bit as good as the ones you are told are the best. I know I do. In this case the record companies already had Pickett and Redding and were busy making money selling their musical talent. They didn’t have time to have more.
The confluence of art and money is an interesting place where many truths are revealed.
💎💎💎
No idea
It's so fucking raw I'm gonna cry.
In a weird way, this album and Moses's life work tells me how DEEP the music industry was in the 60's and 70's....the fact that he was barely noticed relatively speaking to the era is unbelievable. When my dad and uncles said they don't make music like they used, I see their comparisons are not even fair.
Lee Moses and O.V. Wright are criminally underrated. Both are among the all time greats in my eyes.
Roy C too
Baby Huey too!
Yeh man got all the younglings listening to bad girl, they were playing it in there next set at there gig
Not in my houshold, but yeah definitely underrated. Same with Darondo.
@@tompaulcampbell absolutely! I know his niece and it is so cool to see old photos of him and the babysitters. Such a sad story in the end but timeless music.
Such an emotive voice. Truly a tragedy he was not fully recognized in his lifetime.
+Ennui Escape Yep, he did session work in NYC, the wrong scene for his genre. Maybe if he had worked in Memphis or Detroit, who knows? He might have taken off like a rocket. He was truly great.
I'm 49 years old, so I can understand how this wasn't under my radar. I was introduced, as many, from a TV show. Shameful. This guy should have been a a legend. Just another on the list.
Since it's almost impossible to get this vinyl anywhere in EU I'm so glad that youtube exists... Found so many gems, rediscovered world of R'n'R from 60' and 70' especially rock from Japan, Korea, Turkey and all the rest of the oldies but goldies.
Ya, it's totally wild. The stuff from Japan is fantastic.
I know that we have a lot of things to work on as a people.. but there are a few things we totally nail.
I have listened to this album about a dozen times. I just can't get enough of it, it's like a drug. How else can I cure what ails this soul.
Je l'écoute souvent le matin, au moins une fois par semaine. Depuis que je l'ai entendu la première fois, je n'écoute plus les musiques de la même manière.
Lee moses a touché mon coeur, encore plus que mes tympans.
A momentous album. Almost depressing that something so profoundly beautiful could pass over into obscurity. It's a perfect free-standing argument for a "free" internet.
obscurity?? Just because YOU dont know a certain album (and i can guarantee there are thousands and thousands of great alums , masterpieces that you dont know of.) doesnt mean it passed over into obscurity.
This what you display is the typical western narcissism.
@@Stoney-Jacksman What's the matter with you? Lighten up, for god sake. The guy's not claiming to know everything that's ever been recorded.
Wow, a mixture of good and bad here. Lots of energy but some real sour notes. The bandleader should have had everyone tune up before recording. It's a mystery why he didn't.
@@giovanna8187 smoke some weed...ain't that serious...
💎
That drummer is loose but tight! Love the way this has such rough energy and soul but everything hangs together 'just so'. And as for Lee's voice, wow, seriously hard to think how he didn't hit the big time, the man was robbed.
Such a great drummer, my god! The band is ridicously good.
Whatever the real thing is, this is it.
Unbelievable. I, too, just discovered him- and I'm in my 60's, and have listened to and loved this kind of music all my life.
Can't accurately tell how many saturday mornings these ol'records fulfilled.
The BEST SOUL/FUNK/R&B ALBUM in DECADES ..

We Thank You.
You deserve it all my friend
Thank you 🙏🏻
unfassbar gut
As far as I can tell This is not the “time and place” album that released originally, but seemingly Lee Moses entire discography plus singles in one compilation. If you go to Spotify you will find 20 of the 23 songs split between two albums “Bad Girl” (1984) and “Time and Place” (1971) - the remaining 3 songs were singles / 45s outside of these albums
For anyone wondering, I had to go down a rabbit hole to learn this
Just so good, so much soul, so much passion.. perfect
I really enjoy sharing my favorite obscure artists with my friends and family. This is most likely one of my favorites, and they are all shocked that they have never heard him before. R.I.P. Lee Moses.
Every song is banging on this album.
Lee Moses is just that "touched by God" level of talent
*in the silence of my room after the album finishes*..... yo.

I found this Masterpiece today. Right "time and place" indeed. Thank you Lee Moses. Thanks universe.
Thanks is right, this is impossible to get
wooo la découverte
Dis dude da sh*t!!😍🥰 How da f*ck did we miss out on dis. I just discovered him last night watching "Snowfall" I was like who is dat!? I had to pull him up. He was singing California Dreaming. Thanx for posting dis album. 💐 I heard the one song by him "Adorable One" years ago but not the other songs by him. I think I heard the one of the other ones but I still think we missed out on some great tunes. So I guess I just didn't know who he was and the other jams. He makes me think of Celo.
I’m glad Snowfall put him on. He deserves so much more recognition. This is the best soul album no one’s heard.
How much Soul, can one men have ❤
Grand fan de Popa Chubby, j'adopte Lee Moses que je trouve vraiment super. Vieux motard que jamais !
muitíssimo obrigado!

dis brotha does roll call.. more about this when I hear it again
enfin nous l avons trouvé! l homme qui valait trois milliards. Finally we found it! The man who was worth three billion. :)
Yes Sir! This is some funky-ass stuff. Musically speaking, soul music peaked in this era. Nothing that has been made recently comes close. If you like this check, out Baby Huey - he's another forgotten gem from a bygone era.
Listened to this album and I'm blown away. An absolute underrated gem
Wow, what an album! Thank you so much for sharing.
+Soul Donkey Thanks for stopping by
full Power , great .....the beat is hot.......

Nothing short of amazing. / Sweden

Amazing!
The drumming is excellent. Great music so glad I stumbled upon this. Thanks for upload.
I've just opened the latest MOJO magazine (Feb. 2022 issue # 339) and found a feature titled "1971 Nuggets" with a list of 50 lesser known gems from this year.
What a find! I love this album.
