My question would be, what licenses does unico own? I have 3 cabinets i would like to see A1up make if they could make it well, a big IF. Those would be after burner, donkey Kong and star wars trilogy.
Once emulation came on the scene all these licenses are really worthless. At this point people probably have everything they want already and other stuff they don’t have can be played by other means. Even dk actual arcade versions are on the switch so most multicade setups could potentially play these games.
Yup. Nintendo has the arcade versions on switch. The idea of getting excited about new IPs and licenses is just dumb at this point. Everyone has everything already.
Unico is appealing on hardware level, Id like to see the shipping lower. I thought the bashbox was coming to Unico too, they are bringing in alot of people. Can always get alot of the cool games on steam and just run them that way via PC.
Unico is a company you hold your breath on when they announce a product. The Mvsx was ok, the phoenix monitor was a disaster, the unico blast is still TBD, and the Bash Box is no more....just to name a few..
Rexer this is just more smoke and mirrors … Yes unico has made fairly decent hardware but who cares when I can buy an ambernic or Retroid for $50 and have a better play experience and UI… I find it funny they are teaming up with a person who tried to destroy their company this will not bode well … Licenses only have value with modern commercially released consoles imo ..

Rexer, Yes, I've always preferred licensed products, but as you said, done right. That's why I loved iiRcade. They weren't just getting licenses, they were working with the actual companies to get them to play like the actual commercial arcade versions. That's why it took them time to release new titles. Heck, they worked with Taito for a year to get Space Invaders pristine. And did iiRcade have a few hiccup games? Sure, and I put their feet to the fire on one, which they fixed, but games done right is the ultimate goal for me. Plain and simple, I'm for playing how you want to play. I absolutely agree with you on the hypocrisy we see with some folks championing licenses, all the while loading up on unlicensed roms. If people were just honest from the get go, they wouldn't get called out. I again prefer licensed games, but I've never been against unlicensed roms. Heck, I played Arcade Berzerk for years unlicensed, because the licensed version was kept in some vault somewhere. Companies have yet to figure out how to just bring out all games licensed, the right way, to every form factor people would want, and at a reasonable price, so in the meantime, everything's fair in my opinion. Nobody wants that. You bring up a good point about licensing. I don't know everything that goes into it, but with the Internet and everything turning towards a self-service model I wonder if it's easier to obtain licenses. I would think though the licensee would still need to see said product to get sign off before a license is given, but I imagine it's easier now than anytime in the past.

Licences and IPs only matter if you want a single title themed cabinet. Any good multicade can play most of these arcade games fine.
