Wow, I didnt even know Chango was out, thought he wss still locked up. I watched the info minds documentary of chango talking bout prison life, it was dope.
Yo I appreciate these vids fam NY has a very rich history in regards to the streets and being from Cali I’ve always wondered what NY was like in the 80s and 90s and these vids are dope and very informative
Shout out to Cali, I love the 90s era Cali/Death Row/ music scene. Let me say this, as someone who has seen and lived thru the 80s and 90s in NYC, it was the most wild place you can imagine. Manhattan has become a huge, safe tourist attraction. Yo, midtown, L.E.S., Washington Heights, Harlem were just blocks and blocks of dope, hookers, pimps, stick up kids, straight crazy man. It was an extremely dangerous place and the police were either dirty or didn't care. The Deuce, aka 42nd Street, was full of porn theaters, peep shows, hookers, pimps and drugs. It's now as safe as Disneyland. The change is unbelievable. Literally every building was 100% covered in graffiti, so were the trucks and billboards, now those billboards and worth thousands to advertise on. You can't even compare the times. I was 11 years old. I was in Midtown on the Westside of Manhattan, do research, that was a grimey area, I was there with my mother to see a Broadway show. We were walking down 10th Ave I believe, and a pimp looking gentleman was beating the shit out of one of his girls, I remember she was a young looking Puerto Rican girl. As this dude is beating the life outta her, another woman of the night walks up and calmly blows the pimp dude away. The crazy part of the whole situation was that nobody even broke stride, nobody stopped what they were doing. Everyone just acted like it never happened. It was a world of filth and porn and depravity but to me, it made New York City such a unique place. Like I said, now it's like Disneyland.
@RealTizzalk360 I said Times Square and Broadway are LIKE Disneyland in the sense that they are now huge tourist attractions. I didn't say NYC as a whole is Disneyland. But thanks for your input. But don't accuse me of lying. I don't appreciate being called a liar.
@RealTizzalk360 compared to back then it is like disneyland. i'm glad. I didn't run away to the south or upstate like many... i'm still out here and my kid still out here. i'm glad he can ride the subway to school and not have to fight every week like we had to. i'm glad he doesn't have to worry about stick up kids coming through and robbing the whole crowd while he's leaving school.
yeah I can't front that HBO show "The Deuce" really does show how it was in Times Square.. Nothing but dope addicts - pickpockets - stick up kids - prostitutes and men hiding their gay lifestyle from their wives. I went to my first strip club at 15 years old right off Times Square. Scary times now that I look back. How they could possibly let me in??? I mean yeah I was already hustlin and had bread - but they had to know I was under age. I never even had to show ID. All that stuff is gone now. It's crazy. It's like that world never existed.

Yo! L.E.S. in the 70s, 80s and 90s, even til today was the wild west. I've never EVER seen a place where drugs were just a normal, accepted part of the community. Alphabet City and all that, people got lost in those streets never to be seen by ANYONE again. Absolute craziness.
Na you really bout to revolutionize NYC street history with this one.
