Why isn’t anybody explaining why night vision goggles are a deal? They limit peripheral vision that’s one thing. The helicopter flew like it was only looking straight ahead.

That the plane showed on its data recorder that it was at an altitude of 325 ft give or take 25 ft up or down and that the air traffic control shows a radar reading that is not yet verified for the Black Hawk at 200 ft but that they will cross reference once they have its data. He said they weren't even sure if they were going to release this info for precisely this reason. That 1 thing they can confirm, 1 thing they're not yet sure of and 1 thing they don't know yet. Your title here in not factual. They said night vision goggles were on the hawk. They don't know if they were wearing them or not yet. Please don't resort to cheap bait clicks.
Radar and other instrumentation is not necessary to know the height of the accident. The exact height of the accident is known, and should be acknowledged. The authorities know how far away the accident occurred from multiple points of view taken on video. The height is a simple calculation based on the distance and angles of view.
So now there were FIVE (5) people working in the control tower. This makes it worse than ever. Why was a single ATC working both the helicopter and the aircraft - if there were 5 controllers in the tower!? Apparently, the controller in this mishap is called a “local“ controller - and also in the tower was an assistant “local“ controller! Why wasn’t the assistant doing the helicopter then? 5 controllers in the tower - this has turned out to be insane!!
That flight path simulation was disturbing. If the helicopter had just stayed hugging the east bank of the river like it was supposed to the collision never would have happened (and stayed below it's 200 ft altitude limit).
Doesn’t matter what altitude they were at. Completely irrelevant. Both aircraft were under Visual Flight Rules once the CRJ was cleared for the visual approach and cleared to land. Under visual flight rules the helicopter must see, avoid, and give way to any and all fixed wing aircraft. Tower for VFR aircraft is strictly advisory… and they are not even really required to do that. The helicopter was 100% responsible… period. The pilot was a DEI appointment from the Biden White House where she served as an escort. This wasn’t the best of the best helicopter pilots and the warrant instructor sounded like there were issues.
@@TestPilotN911RG I agree! 100% helicopter's fault. I'm arguing in another comment section with some dude who insists it was 90% ATC fault :( What do you mean "and the warrant instructor sounded like there were issues"?
@ ATC didn’t have to say a single word to the VFR aircraft, unless the runway was no longer ‘clear to land’ ATC can never be at fault when two VFR collide in mid air. They are strictly advisory and have no duty to even advise. They should, but don’t have to say anything.
It's funny that during night vision training, helicopter pilots know there is an airport and a runway, yet they cross it without checking their surroundings. Were they distracted? The test clearly failed. Helicopters and other flying vehicles should avoid this path, especially at altitudes near and around passenger aircraft.
Thanks! I keep waiting for more evidence. Do we know which altitude of the airplane is consistent with the landing path? Maybe both are equally consistent, but I'm curious whether one altitude or the other would suggest something wrong with the landing.
Trump was correct… it was a DEI appointment that caused this crash. Both aircraft were under visual flight rules. Period. This means the tower was strictly advisory and no longer controlling separation of VFR traffic. Under visual flight rules the helicopter must see, avoid, and give way to the fixed wing aircraft. It doesn’t matter what altitude the helicopter was flying, or if it was even warned of the CRJ traffic. The woman flying the Blackhawk was a DEI appointment out of the Biden White House where she served as an escort. She was not the best of the best helicopter pilots which seek this duty. And the poor warrant attempting to instruct her showed signs the flight wasn’t going well. There were some very odd calls to ATC, making me wonder what was going on in that helicopter. There are very good female helicopter pilots… this wasn’t one.
Really… it doesn’t matter… once both aircraft were VFR, the tower was strictly advisory… and wasn’t even required to make a single traffic call. Under VFR the helicopter must see, avoid, and give way to any fixed wing aircraft. The female pilot that crashed into the CRJ had just got off a tour as an escort for the Biden White House… this was NOT the best of the best Army pilots. It even sounds like the instructor warrant was having issues instructing her.
