Tina got you good, you making "Dad" noises. Can't wait until I get my hoist!! Life will be so much easier. Had another ECHO 60 yesterday, results of all testing coming. Due to health, only the Studebaker made it to Motor Muster. Only car we had with the bouncy speedo was the 38 Plymouth. That gear housing was the source for my trans leak too. I love the simplicity of these old cars. New stuff requires one of those super scanners, which I had to buy. And the running for the board, like you don't have enough to do already. I've been tapped to run for several Roscommon County positions since our Fuhrer in Lansing took away our 2nd Amendment and this week, our First Amendment. They are following your governor's lead. As always Paul and Tina, we enjoy the videos, expanding our knowledge and watching the fun you have with the club, events and Bob, a true blessing you have. 73 and 88's to you both. de N8IWS and N8KIG.
I felt inspired by your videos and bought a fairly decent 1929 Ford A sport coupe, i own mostly muscle cars... but felt drawn to the As because of your videos. (I am 34 From Chile)
I love how easy these are to work on! Every time I hear about electric cars or work on my newish cars I wish they would make something like this again.
Another great video. I will point out that nobody sends me boxes of goodies 😅 May I respectfully suggest one other thing you may want to do. Clean the cable sheath. I shot some brake clean in the sheath of our old car and blew through it. Got chunks of 60 year old dried grease out of there.
You have my vote. But wait am not a member. 🤣 I lubed many speedo cables in my day, and replace a few cable housings also due to the unlubed cables cutting into the cable housing and jamming up. So lube is very important. Wait that's what she said.🤣 But nowadays, it is all electronics. Thanks for the video, Paul, and have fun, Mike

Merlin and his cousin Paul Cox both have (Fab Rats) good channels. In my BSA shop manual it shows making a funnel around the the cable housing to oil the cable was the same way back in the day for the Model A and T?
Thank you as always - great tip. The more I learn about these cars, the more I understand how they were engineered to be maintained and last. Have a great weekend ~ Chuck
So Paul, if you ever get snowed in and have nothing I mean absolutely NOTHING to do, you can always start rebuilding carburetors and then sell them on line. OR, teach Tina to do it! haha
OK Paul, I have a Tillison carb on my 1926 Model T speedster with Madel A manifolds. Runs great while I am looking for a Winfield carb, but extra Tillison parts are always a plus .
Congratulations on your coming appointment. I see Model T is getting into RUclips too. She's very good... thanks Missus. God bless and good luck🙏 for election.
Back about 50 years ago I worked at a Ford dealer and we had a kit for doing speedometers. It had grease for the cable and a little rubber bulb looking thing kind of like comes in a snake bite kit. It got some powder (probably graphite but with a Ford part #) and you pushed it onto the head where the cable screws on. A little poof and the head worked smooth too.
Some good stuff in this video, I like what you did with the speedometer cable, I have a couple I need to do that to. Mercy, Merlin wants you to have some carb stuff, nice plates too. I enjoyed this one, thanks Paul, hope you and Model T are having a fantastic weekend!😉👍
Very helpful and timely too! I will be putting in new gaskets, etc or the fuel gauge and since it will be apart i might as well do the speedometer cable too! Thanks Paul!
Wow that box #2 had parts for Marvel Schebler Carburetors at least from the couple of floats I saw. Marvel Schebler Carburetor came on my 30 tudor and I can not find any rebuild kits for it just gaskets so feel lucky you have parts on hand now. This brand carb was an after market for the model A and today the company makes carbs for airplanes.
@@ModelA Well maybe enough to build up a Zenith to replace this after market Marvel but I have read that the Marvel actually performed better. Also thanks for your showing all the work as when I got my tudor the speedometer cable wasn't hooked up it was on the floorboard in the back. So as I watch your videos I am looking pass you and seeing the proper installation. So you are more help than just what your subject is.👍
Would this help with the speedometer not working at all? The speedometer in my 1941 Mercury does not work at all. Or could that be an electrical issues? As far as I've checked out all wires are connected properly, and it has the same cable as in your wife's 1929 Ford.
Another good video Paul. I must have over greased the u-joint on my 1931 S/W Fordor as I had grease wicking up the cable into my speed-o-meter a few years back!! What gauge empty shell's are in ziplock bags are on your bench?
Odd thing about that is Paul, that lubing up the speedometer for a model A Ford pretty much works for any model Ford that uses an actual cable to drive the speedometer. As I had to do the same thing with the speedometer cable for my 1965 Ford F-100.
spoiler alert mr paul if you seen his last video you would of know you were getting a suprise lol! keep up the good work of makeing old things fun and cool!👏👏👏👏👏
I would first send the speedo for a rebuild and calibration. The drive gear is in the turtle looking shell bolted to the bottom of the torque tube near the front. Just remove the two bolts and it comes right off. You can change the gear then. But I doubt that is the problem.
Hey Paul!....got my latest issue of "The Restorer" (July/August) today and no B.O.D. Ballot contained in the sealed wrapper that I could find....Did you perhaps mean the next issue?
Hello Mr Paul i have another question that you might can answer or can lead me in the right direction. My 1929 ford model A runs really good for a while then all of a sudden it stars to spit pop backfire and lose of power what could be going on with it. Thanks
Paul... I just rebuilt my gas gage but didn't think about a carb float to replace the cork... You briefly referenced a carb float after opening up the second box on this video... Can you tell me what float I should look for to replace the gas gage cork?
Really useful Vid Paul, as my cable sticks! BTW we Brits also call a Speedo a 'Speedometer'! Not a 'Speed O Meter'! But the reason we call Aloominum...'Aluminium' is because we just spell it differently! Denis ;-)
Love that you and Merlin have connected 👍💯
Been a few years since I lubed mine. Speedometer isn't bouncing again yet, but better to be preventive than risk dry wear damage.

That red and tacky lubricant I also use on my 5th wheel plate on my truck. It works great. Heat rain etc still works great. Love your u tubes .

Thank you again, Paul. Now I will be looking forward to your " how to rebuild a Tillotson carburetor" video(s), since my car has one. Excellent!
Very clear, interesting and well made video. Many thanks.

Model T’s car is looking more beautiful all the time; it’s in the PERFECT hands.
Wasn't the Zenith carb the original equipment and Tillotson an aftermarket replacement?
Very helpful and timely too! I will be putting in new gaskets, etc or the fuel gauge and since it will be apart i might as well do the speedometer cable too! Thanks Paul!
Glad it helped!
Don't know how to vote Paul but you got my vote....You are AMAZING Paul and thanks.......

I just recently learned that the ballots will instead be coming out in the September/October issue of The Restorer. Thank you!!

Yep! Good irk
Spray brake parts cleaner in the housing to flush out the gunk.

Hi Paul, I can't find the ballot in my may/June or July/August restorer, need one to give u my vote.
I just recently learned that the ballots will instead be coming out in the September/October issue of The Restorer. Thank you!!
New A owner. What's involved in changing the speedo gear? I have 19" wheels and my Speedo reads about 10 mph high.

I was told it was going to be in there. I think it is inside the magazine.
"dont film that" hahaha😆 Good video..... i didn't think of greasing that part!
She's always catching me at the worst time!!

i have another question that you might can answer or can lead me in the right direction. My 1929 ford model A runs really good for a while then all of a sudden it stars to spit pop backfire and lose of power what could be going on with it. Thanks
Sounds like a failing ignition coil
Although unrelated to this video, what is your opinion on the chrome grille guards?
I don't use them. No opinion
Hello Mr Paul
Why did Ford not recommend the four blade fan on the Model A Ford
Ford didn't not recommend it. It was just cheaper for them to make the 2 blade fans.
@@ModelA SO THE 4 BLADE IS BETTER CORRECT
@@hermanjones4124 I didn't say that

Ahh! Good to know. Thanks Dennis
Notice how I spelled Denis the way we Yanks do...

What grease is used ?
Red & tacky

Paul Crowley AA owner. Timing tool.
The Ford Turtle...LOL
You didn't show the '29 after you lubed the cable..You only showed your car. . How do we know it worked?
agree. I would have liked to see a couple of seconds of it running smoothly
You could moonlight as a Doctors helper doing colonoscopy's🤣
did i see a lubed speedometer jumping🙃
Weird. In the short clip, it kinda looks like it! IRL, it's stable now.
Your wife’s model he doesn’t get to sit next to yours ha ha ha ha ha ha😂
She gets her own building
I wouldn't trust a chinese branded charger as far as I could throw it. These companies are like mosquitoes trying to push their rubbish
Err speedometer is pronounced the same in countries that spell Aluminium correctly 😅
Ha!!
