Ifotol is a surfactant, basically a chemically clean version of dish-soap. It reduces the surface tension of the water so you don't get any micro air bubbles trapped between the grooves which will impede cleaning . It also helps dissolve grease and keeps it suspended in the water during cleaning.
im totally amazed by how new my vinyl sounds blown away in fact ,ive only had my cleaner a week a cheap job of ebay and made very well to ,im playing records which were unplayable as grime was so bad not hint of it left ,vinyl i thought was ok was not ok lol when cleaned it is like buying a new copy ,anyone who listens to vinyl should get one....
Hello. I use only destilled water and 1 drop of Triton-X, that is an humectant agent and low residue detergent. The results are superb. Sometimes I add some isopropyl alcohol, but not so much.
Nice to see a regular bloke and not a geek into his vinyl collecting. I'll have to work on 'the boss' if I'm gunna shell out for the ultrasonic kit Steve but looks worth it. Like the bar btw...
Wow your water is too hot at 104 degrees Fahrenheit! I also think deionized water is over kill! I just use distilled water and it works fine! A squirt of 91% alcohol and 2 capfuls of foto-flow and your good to go! I’m afraid at the high-temperature would damage your records! I generally have my temp at 80-85 degrees Fahrenheit! Good information in your video! Glad your part of the VC!
You can simplify your solution even further by eliminating the alcohol (isopropyl or, egads...ethanol). Neither is necessary with a quality surfactant because: 1) Alcohol is redundant if you're using surfactant, 2) a few ML of alcohol diluted in a gallon+ of water is essentially ineffective, and 3) there's good evidence alcohol can damage vinyl over time. So why bother. Instead add a capful of high quality vinyl cleaner concentrate like Spin Clean, Audio Intelligent or others that clean dirt and fingerprints.
@@555Output yes, I do believe that repeated use of alcohol can over time damage records but I don’t clean my records but one time in this! This is for my personal collection and it’s basically one and done! There’s no point in repeated ultrasonic cleaning unless number one you didn’t do it right or long enough or too your solution doesn’t work! I’ve done more than 4000 records in both of my collections and I can tell you it works like a charm and once you do it and package your records properly and store them properly you don’t need to do ultrasonic probably ever again!
I found you again!!! I loved this video. I was going to buy TTR001 from you on discogs but it sold out before I had the chance. No worries I bought it from someone else. Still need TTR003 though. You method of cleaning is very complicated! Your use of lighter fluid is curious... it had me thinking... I use “Gruv Glide” for the same purpose. I have no idea what is in that stuff but after seeing your video I was curious if it was also highly flammable. It is! You may have cracked the secret of Gruv Glide. So I collect the exact same genre of records as you but I’ve been using wood glue to deep clean my records. I find it works well but I still like what your doing, it seems much faster. Please post note about Ardkore jungle record collecting... there’s NO videos on RUclips about this which is aweful. I want to learn more about how to find deals on discogs. Most of these records are priced through the moon!
Great Tutorial ! Looking into starting a collection myself. Would love to see what your process is for packaging and postage. Also you mentioned a flattening process for warped vinyls?
Cleaning lovely clear record ? ....I would rather see dirty record being cleaned to see the results. Shiney records doesn't mean option sound. Where do you buy you sleeves from ?
Bioethanol is cleaning fluid. It may or may not be harmful to vinyl. Same with IPA. No conclusive evidence about either. My advice is don't risk it since they're not necessary to effectively clean a record.
I ended up buying a Megahome distiller for water, it works well and it also doubles up as drinking water.

Maybe better use inner sleeves with antistatic inner lining and corner cut, too - just my guess...
I got one last year they are a great bit of kit.

Old Records players/ Juke boxes just after the war .. Used to stack the vinyl in similar fashion .

Thank you sir!

Great guide, Steve. Like you said, would be good to hear the 'before' and 'after' at some point too.
