CHECK YOUR SONANCE MARINER SPEAKERS...NO TWEETER & HIGH FREQUENCIES.

  • We recently installed some Sonance Mariner 56 speakers. These are 6.5" very nice Kevlar speakers. Uncommon to Sonance a few of these speakers lost their tweeters. That crispness of cymbals, and the high frequencies is not all there. You hear only midrange and bass, a bit muffled.
The good news is Sonance backs these with a five year warranty from the initial date of purchase. (Your replacement speakers would not start over with a 5 year warranty). Sonance was great to deal with and took care of this for us.

The company i work for is a sonance/sonos dealer and we have had this issue as well. Sonance is aware of this problem, and will replace any defective units. The sort story is.. there was a run of mariner speakers that have a defective capacitor for the tweeer. They are a great speaker, especially the mariner 86 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Thanks for chiming it. Your exactly right. Sonance has been great in taking care of it. (I just replaced some defective ones for a client of ours). We also still use these speakers and like them. The sound quality is excellent, especially in the 86 👍

@@bigshot562 not sure if they plan on releasing a new or different model. Although the issue with the capacitors has been resolved. We haven't had any issues or have heard of anyone else having issues.

@@derekrosa5897 ahh ok. Thanks I’m running bowers AM-1 with the Sonos amp and it sound like shit anything above 70%. So I was thinking about returning them for the mariner 86. Or add two more AM-1.

@@bigshot562we recently installed a pair of the B&W AM-1 speakers for a customer using a Sonos amp, and experienced the same thing. As long as you keep it 70% or less they sound ok. They are nowhere near the mariner 86 as in output. Even the mariner 66 smokes the AM-1. I think the Sonos amp has too much power for 1 pair of AM-1. Sonos amp outputs 125 watts per channel at 8 ohms and 250 watts per channel at 4 ohms. So running 2 pairs of the AM-1's will just compound the issue with being overpowered.

Hi thanks for posting this video, I just installed four Mariner 66's for a client, connected to a Sonos Amp, and when I fired them up t hey sounded like s&%t. At first I thought I had wired them out of phase but after double checking that was not the issue, then I thought maybe the Amp was bad, so I swapped the Amp and they sounded the same. I even did the battery polarity test while looking at the woofer to make sure the internal speaker wiring was correct. I spent hours banging my head against the wall trying to figure out the issue, I have installed dozens of these speakers and they have all sounded fantastic so I was at a loss. So after finding this video in a google search I contacted my vendor and they're sending me new speakers so fingers crossed that will solve the issue. I will update here once I get them installed.

No problem. We had a few homes where this happened. We knew it was the speakers as we generally only had one in each pair fail. So we swapped speakers to the other channel and it sounded good. Thus we knew it was speakers and not amp or polarity.
Each set we replaced worked fine. We do enjoy these speakers. Look forward to your update when replaced.

Hi thanks for the information, I'm interested in purchasing a pair of Sonance outdoor speakers and your video is very good!

I'm curious, are you going to do a video on how they sound?

Thanks for the info. I've thought about that, perhaps I may. Overall for the mariner 56 being a 5.25" woofer, and one tweeter, these deliver great depth, a nice punch for bass, and very good highs. I was impressed with the overall sound quality for being that small.
They are certainly far better than the average to above average outdoor speakers. We also like them because of their 5 year warranty, and great outdoor rating of IP66 as we work with clients directly on Lake Erie.
If you have enough space you can also move to the mariner 66 or mariner 86 with a 6.5", or 8" woofer. They do make them in different specs, so make sure you get the kevlar woofer, and not the polypropylene.

How do you take it out of the mount?

Here is a link to the manual which tells how to remove it on page 3.
      www.sonance.com/assets/media/files/downloads/Sonance_Mariner_Manual_091118.pdf
After the speaker grille is off, use your thumbs to press outward on the top and bottom tabs of the speaker face, releasing the clips of the bracket. While pressing the tabs, pull gently on the speaker toward yourself until it is removed from the bracket.
