- Replacing the "puffy" lithium ion battery in your Dell XPS 13 9350 may be the key to solving your unresponsive keyboard and track pad problems. Over time as the battery is cycled, it may expand, causing the keyboard and track pad to become uneven or intermittently responsive
Tools needed:
T5 torx screwdriver bit
Small Philips screwdriver bit
Blue Loc-Tite
You can buy replacement battery from (affiliate link):

HUGE PROPS for this video. Just completed a successful operation and the patient lives!!! Phenomenal demo and exactly how it looks. The tape however, is a bit of a pain, but just have patience with it and go slow cause you don't want to pull the wires.
"sorry, boring part of the video" no dude it was one of the most important parts of the video hahaha
I'm sitting here with all the screws out going "okay am I missing a screw what's going on here?" Thank you so much
Thank you so much John for this video. I was able to replace my battery thanks to you. My problem was removing the back. I didn't want to insist, fearing to damage my laptop but when I saw you struggling I understood that it was normal to have trouble removing the back and I succeeded.
Great video! The way you cracked the case from the front is perfect, otherwise you snap two little dimples on the back of the case (next to the hinge on the edges). I used a T5 bit to remove the case screws and a 1.5mm philips for the case screw. Inside on the battery I had to use a larger philips since the screws were shallow. I got the OEM replacement battery from Amazon for $120. We will see how it works! thanks!
Can I just remove the battery and only use the laptop when connected to a power supply or will it not work?
Many thanks for this very useful. I replaced mine using your guide. But I have a problem.
I have just replaced it and whilst at first the charging light on the laptop showed normal (charging) white. After a few moments that changed to flashing 3 x yellow/orange and 1 x white! I have now removed the power.
Would you know what that indicates?
Tks
Thank you for showing the battery installation. My recommend to everyone is not to use your bare hand especially the metal screw driver and touching around the printed circuit board. Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) from your hand or metal will damage components. Use a piece of plastic or wood if you want to move the electrical wires around. Second, get a wrist trap to handle ESD. Spend a few extra bucks for the wrist trap to save your thousands dollars investment.
Thanks John. I just completed a successful battery change thanks to your video. Appreciated.
Music to my ears! Love it!
Awesome and so accurate video. Thank You!
Thanks. I have to do the same on my wife's computer. This is very helpful.
You're right, it is essential to see the struggle. Thanks for the video, very helpful.
Great guide, thank you! Now my XPS is as good as new :)
Thanks, mine 9560 13 inch model uses 7.6V , ordered now from ebay for £35
Mine didn't charge after installing...is there some discharge the new battery a few times step missing?
Thanks for tutorial.
John, You did an outstanding job on this video. Your approach was spot on. Just what I needed!
Great video! I just noticed a right side bump on my XPS 13 9350. I will buy a new battery and try to replace it myself.

Best of luck!
It was the best thing I did. So happy with my XPS now, after replacement.
Hey man! I took apart my laptop today using the Ifixit kit, T5 for the case screws, and a number 1 philips for the inner and battery screws. I'd like to know how would I find out when to change the battery inside my laptop. Inside, the Lithium Packs were not bulging out ridiculously. My Battery Report says 2019-12-29 59,969 mWh 97,003 mWh. And I currently get 3 hours and 30 minutes on a full charge. It's been about 1 year and 6 months on my Dell XPS 9570 i9 and it's an extreme workhorse! I just want to make sure I change the battery at an appropriate time and I don't want to wait to long where it just dies on me!
I did the same , but I keep getting bugs since I changed the battery, works fine for a while than computer close for no reason, or become really SLOW , as soon as I unplug the battery, everything works great. what can I do ?
thank you brother!
Could also do a video of actually removing the battery?
Thanks!
John, thanks for publishing this video! It was just what I needed.
I am so happy that this video was able to help you! Best of luck.
thank you
Thank you so much. It helped me fix the battery problem so easily !! Thought I was afraid of the process ! In fact it wasn’t that hard to do it !! Thank you 😁
Thx. I have the same laptop and same screwdriver!
Hiya. Thank you it looks easier than i thought. Cheers
nice, xps 13 9350 replaced, thx
So glad it worked out for you!
Nice vid. Going to order and replace my battery as well. Depletes way to fast.
Much easier to put the battery cable in before tightening the battery screws.
Great video helped tremendously
Just changed my battery too on my 9343 lol.. also put on some new thermal paste..
I sent mine to the repair shop they replace battery but my keyboard is not working.
my battery look fine, no swollen but I only use like 45 minutes without plugin (it happened for the last couple weeks) . There was problem like "plug in, not charging" (not all the time). Is that the problem because of the battery or the charger? My laptop purchased in 2015 also.
Take it in to a computer shop to help you diagnose the problem.
how good is the replacement battery ? i have a lot of trouble finding a good replacement
yeah, same question popped up in my brain cells. ??
How long does it last ??
Has continued to work perfectly since initial installation. No worries at all.
kinda late, I see equal % of +ve and -ve review on that amazon , so I found a alternative ebay link: www.ebay.com/itm/New-90V7W-JD25G-Battery-for-Dell-XPS-13-9343-9350-JHXPY-5K9CP-0DRRP-7-6V-56WH/312516257734?hash=item48c36ba7c6:g:2P0AAOSwZ2pcfk-7
I will post back the review :)
Many thanks was able to replace the battery successfully
thanks! I appreciate you showing "the boring"... :). Without seeing it, I would have been worried I'd break something.
I bought a battery from Amazon that came w four screwdrivers and they've all worked with their respective screws except the 3 black ones holding the battery in place. I just can't seem to get them out and I'm scared to keep trying for fear of stripping them. Any tips on how to jimmy them out? Thanks so much!
I would highly recommend something like this:

You may be able to find similar items at your local hardware store.
I'm indecisive if I need to change my battery. There is no noticable swelling of the battery but my full charge only last 2 hours of constant work on the best energy saving mode??
I also did install the Dell power management program and it says my battery is in excellent health..
I also have the same problem. Wondering if replacing the battery will get me more battery life?
not sure if you did it or not but you can check the battery helath yourself by running the commands in CMD Prompt.
I dot have swelling but only get 2 hours of battery and only have a 33K/53K battery charge left so about 61% in health anything under 75% is probably a good time to replace just due to it not holding a charge as much as you need it.
Going to replace mine to get my hours back since i need it for work purposes.
can I upgrade ram on this model
thx a lot 4 your tutorial
Hi, after replacing with a new battery the trackpad is now uneven. How can i solve this? Thank you!
is it okay if I don't have any loc tite to use?
I have the same problem and plan to travel with my laptop. However, I may not have enough time to replace the battery before my flight. Have you ever had any issues going through airport security with the swollen battery?
Theresa
No one knows about swollen battery except you!
Never had problems traveling while battery was "puffy". I had not figured out what was happening!
John Lin Thanks for the quick response!
What is the difference between 52WH and 56WH batteries? I'm seeing the dell OEM's are 52Wh while the after market are 56Wh.
Greater "stated" discharge capacity of 4 Wh with the 56 Wh battery. That's it. Not sure if you will be able to tell time difference in actual usage.
Perfect video, thanks!!!
Wow many thanks!
I also own this Dell model.
Does it possible to use this laptop directly to AC, w/o (took off) that swollen battery, while waiting for the new one?
Thanks
You should be able to run the notebook with the battery "puffed" until you receive the replacement.
Thank you!
So glad to be of service!
looks like this is a season of battery changes for all of us 😅
how long the new battery lasts ?
One comment, why aren't these dangerous batteries being recalled and replaced by Dell? Mines got the same problem and these have the potential to start firees
smashie2000,
All lithium batteries have the potential of fire if mishandled or if there are manufacturing defects.
Just because the batteries "puff" does not mean they will catch on fire. The puffiness simply means the batteries have aged or have been damaged.
Yeah I get that, but the only device I've had had it happen is my XPS, rough price conversion would be about $1800 when I bought it. Fully loaded. But on the flip side as well the 'puff' can also damage other components
Can you please give the link for the batteries(Amazon)? Thanks!

Wow! Thanks a lot dude!
You are welcome!
is it OK if I remove the battery without installing a new one a use the laptop from the AC power? will it run?
Unfortunately I can't afford a new battery and I have a lot of work on my laptop😞.
Why don't you leave the battery alone for now?
Not sure if notebook will work without battery installed.
Thanks for the reply, I have a swollen battery the popped up the trackpad and I can't even close lid to due to the swollen area. I have been to told that it is dangerous to keep using a battery with that issue. This is why I want to get rid of it.
Hi, I tried all possible solutions and my dell xps 13 battery never charged, changed battery, charger... It cost me a lot of money. I then found out if I plug the charge in the house's high power wall socket (those meant for toasters, ovens etc) the battery charges just fine. So I think it's probably the motherboard that has a power regulator gone wrong. Try this and let me know if it works just as good for you.
@@7usam93 Whats the word? Did it work without the battery installed on just AC power?
@@daleadamson5182 I did not do it! I've been working on a project so I didn't want to risk anything. I'll be done next week and then I will try and reply to you what happens.
the hard bit is not shown - removing the connector, really the bit that I needed to know, have no idea why you would do this and not show removing the old one.
Can i put a 97whr battery in here
I would probably put in an OEM battery that is of exact physical size, capacity, and output, and not try to get too creative. This is for safety reasons.
I put a 60WH instead of the 56WH... For now it works
@@FederationMontagneEscalade - I heard there are bios issues with using a different capacity battery?
No one struggling with the battery cable to attach and detach the old one?

Couldn't crack up the case, very stiff
Be patient and careful. It will open.
