A little more about these drawing films...
You might not think you can learn much from following these drawing instructions but the process is actually almost identical to the steps I use when I'm out sketching from life. A little observation and some careful measuring with a pencil in the early stages will help keep your drawing from going astray (especially when you're dealing with something technical like drawing a car). It's easy to start drawing what you think is right without checking first - and that's usually where it starts to go wrong. I'd heartily recommend checking through my other films as I have made several that will help you when you venture outside to sketch. There's a retries on perspective drawing - which has several points which I think are often overlooked in other perspective tutorials and book. I've also got a few top tips specifically for drawing from life - and also a few films where I describe my thought processes when I'm drawing. The films on drawing materials may be of interest too. What artist doesn't need an excuse to try a new sketching tool?

If you’re looking for a topic perhaps you’d do some talking and sketching on doing flares arches or pumped out guards. Stuff like the E30 M3 rear guards or a Daihatsu Midgets flared arches. For me I think there’s some ground to cover there... p.S is that a Twisbi?

Next time can I suggest the 1995 Alfa Romeo GTV/ Spider? I think that will be tricky, with her distinctive wedge shape.

Martin Smith was the designer - but the car is based on Giugiaro’s Audi 80 - you can clearly see his influence.

Haha, brilliant, perhaps I should re-label it? I think the key difference is the front overhang. Make sure it's nice and big - as the engine is in front of the front axle. The front and rear screens should be a bit flatter too :)

How timely Stefan. I was going to look at the Quattro. I was wondering if it would be a good car to practice perspective for beginners?

Haha, thankfully we all have different tastes. I can appreciate the sweeping lines of Pininfarina's Ferraris - but also the sharp edges of Giugaro's 80's designs. Love them or hate them - they're more interesting than most modern 'blobs' :)
