I think this is the very reason Caribbean island should look into the problem other island are facing and learn/avoid the same faith. In Puerto Rico there's a fight for the beaches too. Where the government privatization of beaches and selling of land on marine land has cause an uproar amount the people to figth for future of the island.

This is also happening in Puerto Rico. The people created a movement called "Las Playas Son Del Pueblo" which In English translation means ''The Beach belongs to the people'' it seems to be a strategy of the government to, little by little appropriate land like they did in Hawaii. Watch out for the Banks buying houses and turning them into Airbnb's closing beaches, and appropriating them by building illegal structures on land maritime public domain ( Houses Hotels etc) I didn't know this was also happening in Jamaica but now I'm seeing a pattern and usually is not a casualty when this happens, this is an agenda or something. Look for (Land Maritime Public Domain laws) and fight for your Beaches! We recently won a case against the illegal construction of a hotel's pool where they were appropriating Maritime Public Domain and a relative of the governor of P.R. was actually living there. ( So y'all know whos getting the benefits of this deals) Love Jamaica man you people have the best music in the world and I have learned so much from you Beautifull people. Bless up!✍ Yes I!!🟢🔴🟡

My brother this is so true, am not a Jamaican but my husband is I've been to Jamaica loads of time this was something I discussed with the locals. I visited the Cayman island and yes there is hotel on the beaches but between the hotels there's beach access for the locals. Am Grenadian born but I go home often I must say the Grenadian people are not having this when the Silversands hotel was building the owner tried that bs the Grenadian people wasn't having they protest, all beaches in Grenada is own by the Grenadian people that's the law we are all bathing on the same beach. The Jamaican government don't care about the Jamaican people $ above all. This is your land the people has to stand up to this. I was in a hotel in Mobay last year and the locals was using boats / walking to have access to the beach to sell their arts and craft security was chasing them away. When the hotel call the police they came on a boat the vendors will clear the beach this is wrong on all levels how can the government support this nonsense. You buy the land not the beach.

I noticed this in the Cayman Islands. Foreign home owners were building homes and blocking local access to the beaches. The locals fought back and I saw that there were access sidewalks between homes so that the locals still had access.

This goes back to the fact that British Crown still own Jamaica. The independence that everyone celebrates every year is just political Independence, meaning the crown does not have to directly govern from England anymore by sending a governor to Jamaica. Instead, they allow the Jamaican people to elect a government but make no mistake, they are there just to do the bidding of their overlords in London. All public or crown lands in Jamaica belong to the British Crown. Jamaicans refuse to understand this and continue to believe they are free. The Jamaican government is there to do the bidding of the crown not to elevate Jamaicans especially those of African ancestry. The government keep the people in poverty to provide very cheap Labor for the overlords thus the crime rate is extremely high including crime on the beaches. Additionally, most Overlords do not want to see too many especially "black" men on their beaches so that's why the beaches are not open. This will always be so because the Government and their agents use crime as a tool to keep more educated expat.Jamaican from returning to the country to maybe foster more positive political change.

Same thing is happening in Belize descendants of colonizers bought up land where the Garifuna are in Hopkins village.
Garifuna are coastal people so that’s interfering with their way of life.
Descendants of colonizer have overran San Pedro Island etc and the locals are relegated to the lagoon side of the Island where they had to use trash to shore up the land and create roads.
Colonizers are taking over the Islands in Haiti.

I guess they are following the example of Egypt. When a country has tourism as a major source of the precious FX then governments (who have become rulers rather than representatives) will quickly install methods to cream off the income away from the small traders who might have been hoping for a slice of the pie. Many years ago Negril was a relatively peaceful place to enjoy a swim, I guess that is much changed now.
