    I’m extremely grateful that you posted this video, as I too needed to replace the LCD’s on my Mercedes Benz SL500 R230 Roadster instrument panel. The service department at the dealer quoted a price of $2,900, provided that they could obtain the parts. Thank you so much.

    I just completed this repair with LCD screens from German Audio Tech. It was $275 for a set of two (as both of mine needed replaced). Thank you so much MrMarco! I wouldn't have even attempted this, if it wasn't for coming across your video. Thanks again!

    By far the most amazingly helpful video on youtube ever! Thank you so much! I just replaced both panels on my 2004 SL600. RUclips sometimes makes you think you can do things you otherwise shouldn't...this was not one of them. Incredibly helpful and precise. I had a few issues with getting the new panels to work properly and saw your note to someone else on alignment. after some fiddling around, they are now perfect. Can't thank you enough! Best, Tom

    Great video! I was recently looking at one local SL that has "faded" LCD screens. Since currently Chinese screens are out of stock we may try to buy a used cluster and salvage screens from it.

    Hi Marco, great clip-have a question do you loose kilometres traveled with new LCD- do you need to disconect battery when tasking, it looks like you need a gentle touch with the instrument- do you think it would be possible to use a second hand cluster
    love to have some feed back

      Sorry for the late reply, no you wouldn't loose any information by changing the LCD's. As a rule it's a good idea to disconnect the battery when removing electronics, but I didn't and had no ill effects. As far as replacing the cluster with a used one, you'd have to marry the new cluster with the car and I'm not sure what the procedure is for that.

      @@MrMarco6900 Marco, thanks for your response, before I comment further I would like to thank you for this clip, I thought to buy a new cluster from MB, $5000 Plus from MB, so effectivly if I complete the task you have saved me a wopping $4000 dollars Much appreciate your great work to provide us all the saving. The LCD screens, do you have any information on German Audio Teck Long Beach CA or should I stick with your recomendation. The instrument cowl the top clip is tight can you advise how to remove without breaking the tabs.Look forward to hearing from you Kind regards Brian

    If I was to get a used instrument cluster and swap my one out , would I still read the original miles travelled or will the new clusters miles be read

    • @MrMarco6900
      @MrMarco6900  3 года назад +1

      It would probably read "--------" as it wouldn't match what was stored in the other control units in the car. You would need a STAR computer to swap the instrument cluster. see here for more info. mbworld.org/forums/sl-class-r230/787230-instrument-cluster.html

    I just replaced lcd screens,new, on my sl55amg per your instructions but one screen blinks other is out..is it the connections ? Or do I need to reset anything, disconnect batts? Also switched lcd screens lft/right and problem persists..??

    • @MrMarco6900
      @MrMarco6900  2 года назад

      It's most likely the ribbon cable connections. It's very easy to get the alignment off just slightly to where it doesn't work right.

    Question, what were your original lcds doing? Mine go on and off and I’m not sure if it’s the lcds or if it may be a electrical issue. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

    • @MrMarco6900
      @MrMarco6900  3 года назад

      The polarizing film on my LCD's were messed up. If your LCD's are going on and off I would think that is an electrical issue, maybe an electrical connection. Try taking the instrument cluster out, unplugging the connector, then plug it back in and re-install the cluster and see if that works.

    • @juanvaldez2746
      @juanvaldez2746 3 года назад +1

      @@MrMarco6900 Yes sir I tried doing that already in hopes that it would kind of reset or reboot sort of speak but no luck. I did just read on another post someone having the same issue and they ended up replacing the whole instrument cluster and that got it done. Thanks for your prompt reply either way! Love your videos by the way they’ve helped tremendously.

    it looks like mine is peeling where the miles are seen. do i need to replace the lcd for that?

    • @MrMarco6900
      @MrMarco6900  3 года назад

      If the film is just peeling, you could just replace the polarizing film if you can find the right film. You also have to orientate the polarizing film correctly. I tried it but couldn't get it right and ended up damaging the lcd also. It's a bit of work to do it. There are a few youtube video's on how to replace lcd film.

    • @MrMarco6900

      You can't replace the instrument cluster with a used one, unless you can virginize it like a new one with Zero miles. Then you'll need a DAS/STAR computer to replace it.
