    Michael j fox what an actor. So much of this scene resonates with me in 2023 he really nails it.
    Loved him in the 80s for bttf and teen wolf but little gems like this were over my head back then.

    God this monologue is so fucking hard... It could've gone a million different melodramatic, cliche, self pity party ways in the hands of someone less intelligent and less sensitive than Michael but his brilliant choice to play it like she's not really there with him makes this whole inner dialogue heartbreaking. You love him instead of feeling sorry for him and it takes one hell of an actor in order to seperate these two sentiments. He's fucking gorgeous.

    Family ties and back to the future only hinted at his dramatic chops. This is the 1st time he was able to really show what he was capable of, and did he hit it out of the park. Too bad that he got parkinson's. I think there would have been some really good dramas in the 90s.

    This is one movie that Michael j.fox does not get recognized that much. I feel like for a 1988 movie it should be recognized but it's not for some reason I always like this movie Yes Michael j.fox was big in the eighties but his big roles were later in the 80s and this one for sure I like consider myself his number one. It's the way he portrays the character is very out of his different comedy funny style, you can actually feel the pain hurt the role of Michael j.fox puts himself into. I know I'm in my thirties but I always enjoyed his movies even now as an adult I have high respect for this actor, there will never be another Michael j.fox to do well acting betray good rolls like this one. The funny thing is I remember asking my mom and my dad why was I need Michael they told me it was big in the 80s and for some reason my dad and my mom like the name now I can see why.

    I love this film. Im a huge fan of mjf anyway but this film in particular shows how subtle and on point he can be with a characters story. I feel like this right now in 2023 and although ive always liked this film its never become more apparent how spot on he was depicting these emotions.
    Anyone underrating this film either hasn't fully watched it or hasn't been through what Michaels character has.

    I always liked this scene and I’m glad Swoozie survived the recasting. I never read the book but always got the impression that she used to be as screwed up as he was. Little hints like, “I don’t drink much anymore.” And big hints like 4 doses of lithium daily tell you she’s trying at something. Yikes. At least she’s trying and I think recognizes his self destruction and offers him friendship.

      I've read the book and if I recall it correct, Swoozie's character had a daughter she wasn't on the best terms with which came out over dinner. This scene is slightly more protracted in the novel, which ends with Jamie crashing at her couch and not running out, but they captured its essence well.

    every man has a story of a woman like this. whether it was a fling a breakup women have a ungodly talent of using men to get what they want and then once they get it ripping a man's heart out and burning it right in front of them. but their best talent is to make the man feel that it was all their fault.

    • @jeffreycollier4220

      Highlander723 you hit it on top of the head some women will do this its so sad.Its like the Gold Diggers videos your girl or see a guy with a fancy car he says hey and they jump.No loyalty or wife meets a man making more money they come home too you and say I'm leaving or we got too breakup.When Amanda was getting her pretty face casted in plaster and she started too panic her husband was there for her.When Amanda abandon Jamie it hurt me when my wife left me women have no feeling when this is done.I'm sorry for saying back too the art seen you feel covering her whole body in plaster and turning her into a statue forever.nuff said.

    • @alexbaum2204
      @alexbaum2204 Год назад +2

      I don’t know if every man has this story, but it must be extremely common. I sure have one or two. And to your other commenter, it’s not just a gold digging/money thing. It could be anything - a social scene, an image, a location, a power trip, to not feel lonely or vulnerable. It’s about using someone to get what she wants, regardless of where he ends up.
      That’s not love. It’s not the opposite of love either. That’s hate. It’s more subtle than that and almost more sinister, colder, harder to take. Hate and love are opposite sides of the same coin, so if she hates you, she still cared enough to get to that point. It’s not love, but the complete and utter absence of love. Hurts to the bone. And yes, to top it all off, they make you feel like it was your fault. The knife twists.
      But we can bounce back. And in the end, we’re better for it. A perfect life is a boring thing to look back on. All the best stories are tinged with a little heartache. When you climb out of that shit, you feel stronger than you ever did when you were most under her spell.
