Why Do I Get Tachycardia Lying Down?

  • Three main reasons why people may experience tachycardia (rapid heart rate) when lying down:
    1. Mechanical irritation of the heart, such as compression from a large meal, inflammation in the stomach, or irritation of the vagus nerve.
    2. Changes in neurological receptors:
    • Vestibular activity changes when lying down can trigger dizziness and tachycardia.
    • Inaccurate baroreceptor activity (sensors detecting blood flow in the neck) can cause tachycardia due to shifts in blood volume.
    3. Autonomic dysreflexia, which occurs when there is compression or irritation of the spinal cord. This can lead to a combination of tachycardia, high blood pressure, and sweating, especially when lying down and with additional irritants like a full bladder or leg discomfort.

Doc, you are one of the few looking for the big picture out there.
I guess you see hEDS patients (or suspected ones) and you also see tethered cord, CCI/AAI, thoracic outlet and vein issues as well?
Are ways to fix that non surgically? Or you transfer those to a neurosurgeon?

I noticed when I lie down my tinnitus gets more noticable, my tachycardia at its worst persist when lying sitting or standing, but most of the time lying down helps it gets slighty better or make it go away after while
