    I learned the hard way. Bought a fake tread mistakenly. A screw worked loose and was lost. I dropped it off at Leatherman here in Oregon and 2 weeks later got a call informing me that it was fake and they would NOT replace the screw. They Shipped it back to me and here I am. Devious knock off dirt bags overseas.

    Had the cash to buy a silver one but chose a black china copy because it matched my Fenix and Leatherman didn't have the black one in stock in the four attempts I made over a solid year of it's production life to get one. I've owned a Leatherman mut eod and a rebar, zrex and raptor in the past but their products have become too hard to source in Australia without third party inflation or usa sellers taking advantage in a more then predatory way the cost of shipping. So after I got my nock off tread that actually cut me haha. I made the mental note I will be changing to SOG which is not a decision I made lightly as a bloke that actually uses his stuff and doesn't hide it behind fancy leather pouches

      As a bloke who uses his tools and stores them in fancy leather pouches that I've stitched myself, I feel attacked 😂

    Currently unavailable anywhere qt reasonable price. Only knockoffs are easily found. It sucks that it is like that.

    Fake tread, no aftermarket parts, no 25 year warranty. Leatherman‘s warranty starts after they discontinue a product. For instance, my surge I’ve owned it for years but it still has a 25 year warranty when they discontinue that model that’s when the warranty begins. So my new Tread the warranty is only 25 years because it’s discontinue now but that’s OK I don’t see myself needing that at 84 years old

    I am sorry if it wiped out the real thing but as cool as it is (and I own one), let's face it, is far from the most comfortable or useful tools, its mostly a fashion gadget, not entirely there to be named jewelry cause apart from a tungsten bit there's nothing rare nor exotic, other than its cost. Leatherman Tread is, or was too pricy for first world countries, they were prohibitive-expensive for the rest of the world. Enters asian market that will take EVERYTHING quality made, mold it in a cheap version and sell it to the rest of the world. Probably less useful than already awkward orginal thing but again and generaly sepaking, you wont want to scratch a shiny gadget used for fashion. There's that, the world has (or used to have) the real thing and a faky for the rest which won't or can´t get the real deal.

      You should see how beat up mine is. You can call it awkward but I’d call it a learning curve, and at that final 80 dollar ish price tag it was nice.
      I have two, I use one still. I find it convenient honestly, some of the hex wrenches are just on the spot perfection and the drivers work in a pinch.

      @@TheOpinionarium I got the black one, just two micro scratches from trying to fix some stuff, then refrain from using cause black finish makes it more evident while it is only on the surface. After a while I decided I want to use it as watch bracelet, so here I am wondering if the watch link adapters are still available or will fakes even be compatible and I'll have to settle for that so yeah, thanks for vid man. And have a happy Christmas.

      @@JLa748you said it!! 260-280 usd is an entire family's salary in some households! The thing is in a lot of Asian countries, if the price was right, a lot of people would have bought it because of how looked down upon having a blade yes even in a SAK type multitool is and can get you into some serious shit with the fuzz!
      This could have been an answer to that in a lot of the Asian market. Yes it's not a replacement for a multitool but a multitool isn't a replacement for an actual tool kit either!

    • @theskullinside666
      @theskullinside666 Месяц назад

      @@JLa748 also a lot of times it's can't get the real thing over won't get the real thing!
      I picked up a Leatherman Wingman about 8 years ago and it took me a year to save up enough to afford it.
      I desperately wanted the Sidekick over the Wingman because the saw blade is definitely more useful than the scissors. I looked high and low for a Sidekick and even contacted Leatherman USA to see if they would ship it to me. They put me in touch with a local vendor who flat out refused to import this particular model just because.
      Saws are not banned where I'm at.
      The wingman was a mid range tool and if I wanted the Wave, it would have taken me 3 years to save up for it because it was 3 times the price of a Wingman/Sidekick.

    Having both real variants I can confirm it is simply an ornament. No way is the real a real Leatherman tool and is more of an awkward to use bits set kind kind of gimmick of theirs! Being someone who has used such since the mid 80's when they let us fly from the UK to the US and back to a real homeland of the UK. All such good kit was German designed multitools that had superior blades at that time cheaper to us from the US, where we wear and use such things in our lives in the UK. Never buy from China as a well known mindset is copy anything as cheap as poss for a simple sale for Mr or Mrs normal and not a serous user of anything from there...

    I wear mine daily in the UK, it's great, though currently selling for $220 to $260 over here. What is the large rectangular tool hole meant to fit? I don't have it on my metric one.

    When the tread first came out I bought a clone because I saw the need because I was going in and out of controlled environments. I decided to tighten up a large Allen wrench and it needed to be REALLY tight. Unlike any normal allen wrench, I twisted the tool. The steel is soft. But leatherman had an outragious price so... Now that they are on sale. I will be getting a real leatherman. BTW, Odds are Chinese use metric pattern thread and Leatherman uses inch.

    Just ordered a fake for my Apple Watch, strictly for decoration. I don’t plan on ever using it as intended because I have 3 tool boxes full of actual tools. I just like the way it looks and leatherman obviously discontinued it for a reason. It it was such a great tool it would still be in production.

    • @TheOpinionarium
      @TheOpinionarium  Год назад +2

      They’ve discontinued many tools that many people have considered great. Great is an opinion based term, some people think tacos are great, some people don’t.
      I use the tread almost daily as a tool. The bottle opener, large flat head, and one of the hex wrenches are my most commonly used tools on it, and they do their job well every single time I use them.
      They discontinued the Squirts, The Juice’s, all their old shear based designs which I’ve head people loved. Just because an item is being discontinued doesn’t mean it wasn’t objectively good, which I’d argued the tread is. There’s a learning curve, but after that it’s pleasant.

    • @Volksoner619
      @Volksoner619 Год назад +2

      @@TheOpinionarium that’s fair but let’s be honest. There’s a multitude of multi tools that any one of those designs could easily be replaced with. The tread is a very specific gimmick that wasn’t replaced by anything. Sure a handful people found it handy but not enough to warrant a direct replacement.

    I find it funny you are complaining about a knock off, but you buy one.
    When you buy one, you perpetuate the demand and the supplier will continue to manufacture and sell more.
    I think it’s a gimmicky tool to begin with besides the cutting tools and maybe the bottle opener, I find this a silly gadget. All the tools like awkward as hell to use. Better off carrying an EDC with you. Or just pop a good multi tool in your pocket.

    IDEA: make a wrist tool to carry and display the 2D bits! This would make the flat leatherman bits easier to carry and help remember where each one is. Some way to make the Leatherman Flat Bits into a male accessory would be great, as the 2D bits are one of Leathermans innovations! It took a year and a half for me to realize they were worth carrying. Where I work the bit kits are worth fooling around with because it takes less time then going into the shop and trying to get the mechanics to find the tool I want. They always loose their tools, and I have learned the hard way not to waste my time with these guys. But then again, I have misplaced one of the bit kit thingies, so who am I to talk...
    IDEA2: Titanium Bit Kits?!?! Maybe... ? Titanium 2D bits on a brass bracelet could be pretty cool.... Or a rubberized bracelet? IDK... IMHO
