I have seen countless multiplying ball routines in my life. It was one of the first tricks I ever learned as a child, and I continued to do versions of the trick throughout my magical career. If anyone had ever told me I would watch an essentially "stripped down" multiplying ball routine, and not only enjoy it, but actually be moved to tears, I would have suggested they get mental help.
But then, there is Javi Rufo. I knew by the second production that he would not only fool Penn and Teller, but that he would move them as well. The fooling, the technique, is important, yes. It is startling, it is confounding, it is marvelous, and it remains a mystery to me. But it is secondary to the wonder and emotion, the art that Javi creates, as he literally weaves a spell for us. And we are held, spellbound, on his every word, disbelieving...but wanting so much to believe that we are children again...and magic is real.
Thank you for giving us a moment of pure wonder. It is a rare and precious thing.

This is one of the best magical acts I've ever witnessed. So poetic, so visual, loved it.
