    It just crossed my mind how long it has been .... I pledged Allegiance to the flag of United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and Justice for All. I used to recite that 5 days a week and never gave it much thought but today and recently I give it a lot more thought than I used to and it means a whole lot more to me than it used to hope it means alot to you

    I’m a millennial that often gets into arguments about where millennials went wrong. Many people point to boomers, and for the longest time I felt they were correct. In retrospect, I was in error. It wasn’t the boomers that went off the rails with Gen X, it was the greatest generation that failed the boomers.
    I, like many, held the greatest generation in awe. My great-grandfather gave his life in northern France fighting the Nazis. Many of my great-grandparent’s cousins, brothers, and uncles fought, bled, and died in the war. They told me and my brothers about how hard the depression was, what people had to do to survive. My grandmother’s father worked for a dime an hour carrying coal miles and miles to deliver to homes. Imagine it, carry 100 pounds of coal for 10 miles a day. I thought they were supermen and superwomen.
    But they were not perfect. They desperately wanted their kids to never have to die fighting or carrying coal for a living. So they spoiled them. They didn’t want to make any impositions on their kids. Go to church? Only if you want to. I’ll buy you whatever you want. Work as a kid to help the family? Nah, enjoy yourself.
    That likely seemed very noble. But it planted the seeds of what we’ve got now. My own children work around the house to learn a work ethic. They go to church as long as they live in my home. My wife and I do everything we can to instill our values in them. I pray it is enough to prepare them, because the way it is going, they will face challenges not seen in this country for almost 75 years.

    • @TheSpicyLeg
      @TheSpicyLeg 2 года назад +3

      @@Louipyaps Not at all. They’re children. There are many things I make them do or prevent them from doing that would be immoral to do to an adult.
      When they are adults and living out of my home, they’ll be free to do as they please. I intend to give them the best chance for happiness and fulfillment.

      @Nicolq Roberts I am also British and live on the Wirral. My sister and brother-in-law live in Surrey. The increasing polarisation of British politics is now very apparent was clearly demonstrated by the recent MEP elections. This is increasingly becoming a North/ South divide. There are obviously many individual anomalies (you are one), but the general populations of London and the Home counties really are now living in an alternative universe to the rest of the UK. This is personally brought home to me starkly whenever my sister's family visits me here in the NW of England. They are staunch Remainers, and very much part of that group that is colloquially referred to as "the chattering classes". I am the opposite. We have agreed to stay off the subject of politics because the ideological divide between us has become so enormous it always descends into unpleasantness. That is the way of the world at the moment. The ideals of the modern left are now unequivocally that of the far left. Frightening and sad.

      @Nickij71 Robo >> I'm from Canada whose roots are from the UK. I've been observing the deterioration you speak of. Dismaying in light of how great Great Britain was for many centuries. I recall Churchill's Britain, even Thatcher. I hope that your Emerald Isle, as Shakespeare called it, finds its way back again. If westerners "are depressed sad and feel hopeless and helpless at what's going on" the ideological enemies win. There is a lot wrong, but the true goal is to find out what are the alternatives to combat this. There are some terrific books that provide ammunition: Viktor Frankl (Man's Search for Meaning),Paul Johnson (English historian), Ayn Rand, Thomas Sowell, and many others. It's vital to identify the problems and more vital to find alternative solutions. This gives us rich inner resources to carry on.

    Prager is a Jew. I'm a Christian, I agree on all of itbut unconditional love. He might say you can dislike your children. The "clarity" he seeks in debate is that I believe you can be annoyed by your children and still love them without the slightest contradiction. Ideally, we can do similarly with others. I agree about "earning" respect and admiration; not love.

    • @julianatdeltona
      @julianatdeltona 4 года назад

      I understand your point but I think that the concept of unconditional love is restricted to our relationship with God. The extension of it to human relations is questionable.

    • @jb-0481

      Unconditional love isn’t altogether possible among humans. We love but often with demands. Even with our spouse or children. God loves unconditionally, and that becomes our highest goal: to love one another the way God loves us.

I’m open to most of what I’ve heard so far though I disagree with his statement at 24:00.He states the Bible doesn’t gives us any reason why God chose Abraham. The scene was set for Abram’s choosing during the time of Melchizedek. His actions of loyalty , trustworthiness and chivalry during this time was one that was greatly appreciated by God. There is much more to add yet for the sake of not writing an essay in the comments I’ll leave it here.

      @@thomasredxjackson6906 Nothing is wrong with it. People make money by lying and stoking hatred and divisiveness everyday. I'm sure it's a great way to make a living - people just love having their prejudices reinforced. But I'd never call Dennis insightful and witty. Also he breaks the 10 commandments ( which he claims are his morality lodestar) every time he lumps everyone on "the left" into one big monolithic group. That's bearing false witness and lying. So you can add colossal HYPOCRITE to Dennis's list of qualities.

      @@soniag4516 the only problem with public schools is the propensity for conservatives to privatize them. Not only have corporations infiltrated every aspect of schooling, from food, to clothing, but corporations that serve the capital establishment, a conservative entity, wrote the books that red, white and brainwashed everyone to begin with...
      Social programs should never be privatized. Liberal devices should never be helmed by conservative entities..
      Intelligence is collective ie liberal in nature... it's why conservatives incite riots at colleges or simply shoot them up...

    On this subject, I heartily recommend a track I discovered by accident (it appeared in my 'recommended' feed) by a British band called UNIT. The track is A Tribute To The Israeli Defence Force and it is excellent - tuneful and forceful without being bombastic combined with a lovely lyric. I know next to nothing about the group but on investigation I see they've recorded a whole batch of Jewish related tracks such as Pesach, Yom Kippur, Bar Mitzvah, Israel Is Real, The 613 Mitzvot and probably others I don’t know about yet. Some of them feature Rabbi Moshe Bryski which is definitely a recommendation in itself.

    Mr. Prager's point about people preferring safety to freedom is certainly true. But that point is actually a critique of conservative thought, because conservative thought is a retreat into the safety of well-established thought patterns.

Even cranked up to maximum volume I am struggling to hear. Thanks for looking into this! I look forward to future videos at a higher sound level.
