Struggling to Breathe. To the Emergency Department. Possible Blood Clots

- For the last week, I have had pain in my left calf which is very similar to the pain I have when I get blood clots. Today, I abruptly could not breathe and decided to go to the Emergency Department to get my shortness of breath checked out to make sure I did not have blood clots in my lungs. #godismystrength #bloodclot #emergencydepartment

Thank you so much. I appreciate your concern. I film videos when I am in poor health because it helps me remember my experience. For example, I can watch the video and know what tests I had and what the doctor told me. (I can review this video before I see my primary care doctor to make sure I do not forget anything I was told in the ER. Very little is written on my discharge instructions.) Also, it helps to show a doctor this, if needed in the future, to assist the doctor in understanding my symptoms. I can explain all I want, but when I show a doctor a video, he/she seems to understand much better what I am going through than any words I can use.

OMG! I'm very sorry to hear this. You can't wait fir 2 weeks to see your primary! They should not of released you from the ER in your condition. That's sickening!! Just Cause your on blood thinners does not mean thier isn't a blood clot. Somehow they have to do a test right away. I don't understand thier logic. I will pray for you and please let me know how you are. Sending my love and hugs always!!

Thank you for your concern. So far, my breathing is not bad if I am laying flat. If I sit up, it becomes fast. If I try to do anything, I become very short of breath. I am trying to stay in bed and not do much until I am able to see a primary care doctor.

Sorry to hear this. If you were negative for a blood clot, which is likely as you are already on blood thinners. What was the cause?
The emergency doctor did a d-dimer. This is a non-specific test for blood clots. My d-dimer level was high. The doctor did not do any additional testing to rule in/out blood clots. He just said because I am on a blood thinner called Eliquis, it is unlikely I have a blood clot.
Prior to this event, I have had four blood clots while taking the medicine Eliquis. There are blood clotting disorders in which Eliquis is not effective at preventing blood clots. I have been told during previous hospitalizations, I need to be switched to a different blood thinner, but so far, I have not been able to get a doctor to do so. Since my d-dimer was high (and other causes of high d-dimer such as infection, old age, recent surgery, recent injury, etc. were negative), it is likely a blood clot in my lung was causing my breathing issues.

I had to have a picc line briefly back in October of 23 due to some sort of blood infection. I've been having a difficult time myself with at least three hospital admits since June of this year with the most recent being a couple of weeks ago.

I have asthma so seeing you like this hurts....why can't the ER order the test you need & also keep you in the hospital??? Go to the ER in a different hospital & stay there until the hospital figures it out. ❤
The hospital was very full. They did not have any rooms. Thank you so much for the suggestion. Going to a different hospital is a great idea.

Any updates?
I am waiting for an appointment with my primary care provider. In the meantime, I am very thankful my breathing has slowed down from what it was in the video. I am still short of breath, but not nearly as short of breath as I was at the ER.
