  • Amazing scene from this episode!!
    ///then I'm going to drive away,
    and you're gonna go home to your daughter,
    and every few years, you're gonna look at her face
    and know that you're alive because you chose
    not to go down a certain road on a certain night,
    that you chose to walk into the light
    instead of into the darkness.

    When I think of Fargo, I think of this scene.
    Probably one of the most badass, intimidating, malevolent showmanship I've seen come out of Billy Bob Thornton.

    • @squamish4244
      @squamish4244 5 лет назад +21

      I think of the diner scene first, and then this scene. The diner scene because you see Thornton's ability to play barely concealed rage. He is furious that the diner owner is not intimidated by him, but can't do anything about it. Then this scene, where a similar scenario plays out, but the cop is frozen with fear.

      @bonitakinsinger6634 7 лет назад +15

      All of it was implied and the implication itself would have to be repeated in a manner that would take it from that to a threat. Can you imagine this young cop trying to make clear how and why this guy scared the heebie jeebies out of him? Can you imagine him even recounting it to his captain? Everything Malvo said sounds like some weird ass version of ghost story told by the campfire. "Here Be Dragons", can you imagine repeating that and making it sound dangerous? What if they found Malvo? How would they ever make him seem threatening considering the next times we see him he is meek as a lamb and everyone buys it? That is what makes it so terrifying. It is not possible to describe how a man talks to you in a reasonable tone of voice and scares you so badly that you back up and let him pass. The lawyers would eat the cop alive on the witness stand.

    I showed this to my uncle Jeremy who worked highway patrol and eventually drug task force. He told me a story about a man he pulled over for speeding, he found out the guy was a mid level drug dealer with connection to the Arms Trade. He and the man talked for 5 minutes and he told me he really wanted to let the man go. Because the guy casually brought up my uncles wife and asked if she still made good Ziti. (How the fuck would he know that?) My uncle got mad and told him to step out and the guys exact words were "yes sir" and fired a revolver he had hidden through his jacket that lodged in my uncles belt and the second hit his partner Chris in the shoulder and armpit. The guy drove off and no one ever caught him. My uncle said he was shot outside a bar and dropped in the LOTO (Lake of The Ozarks) said he never wanted to pick a badge up again. Can't blame him honestly. He dealt with some of the worst people around.

    It's the coincidence of his daughter radioing in and reminding Gus what he stands to lose if this traffic stop goes wrong that really allows Malvo's intimidation technique to succeed. Great touch to have the kid calling him in the background to heighten the stakes for him internally - a way we can follow. I bet you there are a lot of times where cops wished to have looked the other way, but didn't. Not saying they should, but some roads do have dragons.
