Taylor Pack I can’t be the only one who thinks Nadal is afraid of the Fed FH. When they go toe to toe on that wing, Fed will come out on top. When Nadal is timing it up the line its a sign he’s in form, a strange “problem” to have when it’s considered his stronger side. Fed has never had such a problem.
@@incredibleXMan Federer doesn't even lead his so called favorite surfaces against Nadal, Nadal is 4-3 outside clay in grand slams vs Federer, and with the last French Open beat down it's 10-3 for Nadal. Furthermore of the 3 Nadal loses to Federer two have been in 5 sets one of which Nadal was a break up in the 5th set (Australain Open) the only none five set Federer ever won was their first Wimbledon match when Nadal had just turned 20 years old and that was still a pretty competitive 4 set match (two tiebreaks) that could have gone to a fifth set, this match up is just Nadal being all over Federer.
Back when Rafa was at a good level so Federer couldn't really do anything. Let alone when he was in his very prime. Miss those days. Now he's good on clay only, which is great, but Roger will never play on this surface again so he has some chance to get close on the head to head record.
ChrisByBacon Nadal was also significantly slower in 2017, and speed is more important for Nadal's game than Federer's one, as Nadal is far more physical. Not to mention that Nadal was a bit tired after the 5 horas semifinal with Dimitrov. So no, 2017 Federer would not beat any version of Nadal outside clay.
AO's courts typically were very slow prior to 2017. All Rafa had to do to beat Roger there was play some top spin forehand to that one handed backhand and Roger would shank eventually. Also, their 2009 and 2012 meetings were actually pretty close. I know their 2012 meeting may look like a one sided beatdown on paper, but it was a competitive match from start to finish.
@@MrPatrickbuit "All Rafa had to do to beat Roger there was play some top spin forehand to that one handed backhand " Lol typical delusional fed fan, attributing Nadal's success to courts being slow even though he barely lost that 2017 final to Federer. Nadal reached 5 finals here, 2 loses where he was a break up in a fifth set against both Federer in 2017 and Djokovic in 2012, and one lose due to injury vs Wawrinka in 2014, Nadal was better than Federer in those years that's the only explanation, in fact Nadal is better than Federer in direct match up on any tournament where Federer doesn't get half of his points from fucking service winners, if it becomes a baseline battle Nadal has an 80 % chance of winning, pure and simple, Federer can only win in very special circumstances vs Nadal.
Gherbi Hicham I never said anything about either player being better but ok. Also, the fact that Nadal loses to Fed as soon as the courts are fast really just proves my point, not yours. Whether it be in 5 sets or not, at the end of the day Fed won. And being “up a break” at 3-1 in a set means literally nothing. That was not a choke at all. Nadal is definitely a better baseliner than Fed, but just because you prefer that as a playing style doesn’t make Federer’s serve cheap. The guy is the same height as Rafa yet he has one of the best service games in the game. His serve is one of the most impressive serves in tennis history. The slow courts aren’t the issue here. Rafa’s matchup versus Fed is. Just look at the Fed vs Nole and Nadal vs Nole matchup. In that scenario, Nole has a two handed backhand which makes the biggest difference in the world. Fed has beaten prime Nole twice on every surface except grass and has a 31% winrate against prime Nole (2011 onwards.) Nadal has only beaten nole twice off clay and has a 26% winrate against prime Nole, but realistically it’s extremely low on every surface except clay, where it’s 66%. You can say “but Nadal was in bad form in 2015,” but has Nadal been able to beat Nole on a hardcourt since then? No he hasn’t. The slow courts are not the reason Fed can’t beat Rafa consistently, but they definitely play a role, because Fed has a one handed backhand. It has nothing to do with the *quality* of Fed’s backhand, but everything to do with the *stylistic feature* of his backhand.

I would say both Djokovic and Federer in their primes are even and their primes never really overlapped except the closest in 2011-2012. However the age difference is 6 years so it’s normal to not having it overlapping peaks. Nadal on clay peaked very early and even earlier on hard courts and grass in 2008/2010. Djokovic would have prime earlier if not for gluten intolerance but I would say Federer matches up better game wise than he does with Nadal. Both have better mentality than Federer but I think if Federer had to earn his slams early on I think he would be forced to develop mental strength early in his career. My thoughts
In terms of quality of tennis I agree that AO 09 was the best, but I understand "memorable" in a more historical way. Looking back on this match, I have little doubt in my mind 2017-18 Federer would have beaten Nadal. Federer did some things well, but often his finishing ability really let him down and he hit way too many routine balls long or into the net (perhaps partly due to getting used to the new racquet, which he's very well adjusted to now). He allowed too many very long rallies, which always favoured Rafa because his loopy balls have much more margin on them than Federer's, so they often ended with a Federer error. I'm watching this match imagining how 2017-18 Roger would have handled the balls coming over the net at him from Rafa. Rafa was very beatable in first set and a half, he only really stepped it up in the second half of the match because of the scoreline momentum and confidence he was gaining (largely due to Roger's failings). This new Roger would have taken time away from Rafa by standing further into the court and taking the balls earlier. He would have also been mentally stronger, with much more self-belief against his rival, which he clearly lacked here (you can see Nadal is still in his mind) - not enough positivity from Federer, too much negativity. Seeing what Roger has done recently helped me see these failings of Roger in this match - at the time I thought he played reasonably well and that it was completely down to Rafa playing too well. But looking back I see things very differently.
FedX Very good analysis, though I would say long rallies don't just favor Nadal because of the margin on his top spin shots, but also because Federer can't generate as much power above his hip on his backhandas a player with a two handed backhand could. Federer also sliced way too much back then. And when Roger slices, it's almost always to Rafa's forehand, which is laggy and isn't bothered by backspin at all. In the end Rafa was set to dominate this H2H from day one, but 2017 Roger (especially the AO - Miami variant) could have made this rivalry a lot less one sided.
Nadal was much better here than in 2017, Federer had to fight back from 5th set lead against Nadal to win the match, LMAO what makes you think he can beat Nadal here? Even with all of the things he got in his favor(improved backhand, good serve etc..) in 2017, he barely even won the match, the Nadal of 2014-2012 definitely wins against any version of Federer on this court.
@@MrPatrickbuit Rafa dominated Federer right from the start at the age of 18 when he defeated in Miami on a Hardcourt.had rafa been the same age as Federer he would have dominated him even more.at 18 Nadal was far from his prime.
Jeffrey Kaufmann You say that, but Federer’s winrate over Nadal didn’t decrease over the years. Even when Federer was getting older and Nadal entered his physical prime, Federer maintained roughly the same win/loss ratio against Rafa. In fact, Federer has actually improved the H2H severely in the last few years, even though it’s Nadal who should have been having the advantage of being younger for almost a decade now. Most of the matches Federer lost to Nadal were from *2005 - 2008 and 2013.* We all know Nadal beats Roger, but the question is *why.* It’s not because he’s that much better. If he were, Roger wouldn’t be having a 34% winrate against prime Nole while Rafa only has a 25% winrate. And that’s while Federer and Nole met up the most when Federer was old too (33/34.) Then again, you’re probably the kind of person who says that Federer entered his prime at 34 and he could only beat Rafa and Nole while they were injured. There’s no use in arguing with you, because you’ve closed your mind from the beginning.
Lot being said and Proved that Federer is only 3rd best player. Nadal and Djokovic are far better than him. Nadal and Djokovic are still playing due to the reason that they want to prove that they are always better than federer and his 20 numbers in GS. Hope they both get close to 25 grandslams. Nadal is not the same player though. Don't get me wrong, Fed has probably improved, but Nadal has declined big time. He's way slower, can't take long rallies no more, has 10x weaker serve and not even need to mention the mental part.
NLLeFa I agree nadal can't play defense like he use to and now he can no longer go after the federer backhand like he did early on in the rivalry
Navid Namini
It was in their 2009 meeting at the same venue, though! But it didn't serve Federer any good. Nadal was a beast then.
NLLeFa age slows everyone down. federer as well. sympathize with federer keeping up with these freaks
Baby life.
Federer didn’t play bad, rafa was just sublime in that match
Federer tried to take it early here too but the court speed was slower and Nadal was hitting deadly down the line

Actually it is 5-0 at Roland Garros. You probably forgot 2005 SF
Its 3-3 off clay, nadal's best surface so its not terrible for Fed. I think he could have won RG 2006 final though.

Back when Rafa was at a good level so Federer couldn't really do anything. Let alone when he was in his very prime. Miss those days. Now he's good on clay only, which is great, but Roger will never play on this surface again so he has some chance to get close on the head to head record.
Should I remind you of this year's final dude ? Both were on good level
in terms of play
Federer had a nonexistent backhand. With the way Federer plays this year, he could beat Nadal at any tournament, (maybe not in the french open)..
😶Nllefa should you be reminded who won US. slam2017. not a clay court
Siiiike!
ChrisByBacon Nadal was also significantly slower in 2017, and speed is more important for Nadal's game than Federer's one, as Nadal is far more physical. Not to mention that Nadal was a bit tired after the 5 horas semifinal with Dimitrov. So no, 2017 Federer would not beat any version of Nadal outside clay.
funny, all these AO titles Federer has and Nadal only the one- yet their H2H at AO is awful against Fed....
@@MrPatrickbuit Why even bother explaining tennis to these delusional Federer haters, they'll never understand why Federer has 20 major titles, to them everything he's accomplished is one giant conspiracy against Nadal and Djokovic.
@@mattheweberly123 Honestly Nadal and Djokovic are already more accomplished players than Federer, but Nadal's H2H versus Fed is an unfair way to measure it.

I don't think 2013-2014 Nadal would have lost between 2017 and 2019 to Federer. 2017-2019 Nadal is slower than in 2013-2014, and Nadal's game is more physical than Federer's one, so he needs that extra speed to reach defensive balls.
@@jameswalker6864 Funny how Fed fans think Federer actually got better in 2017 when in fact it was Nadal who got so much slower, Any Federer would have lost to 2013- early 2014 on hard courts, he was just that good.
@@gherbihicham8506 no friggin way...2013-14 Nadal only dominates fed coz that was feds worst year. 2009 to 2012 Nadal was just as good or even better than 2013-14 Nadal and both Nadal Nd fed had some close quality harcourt matches during that period like AO2009, 12 Nd a few beatdowns from both like WTF2011, Miami2011, IW2012 etc. The rivalry on hard courts was pretty even then and it depended on the surface a lot. My point is IW2017 fed surpasses any level he showed prior to that, even 2004-2007. So definitely any incarnation of Nadal loses to IW 2017 fed on hard and grass court. There was simply no weakness to exploit in his game.

He just beaten baby Djokovic in early encounters in straight sets. Imagine if all 3 played at same age, Federer may not won any grandslams against these giants Rafa/Djokovic
@@sathishr7842 Federer had a great record against Djokovic before 2013. My thoughts
It must suck for Federer that not only Nadal is a better tennis player than him but he’s also more attractive. The full package.

Federer's backhand is the worst ever
3 years later Federer would turn the tables.
Most of the matches Federer lost to Nadal were from *2005 - 2008 and 2013.*
We all know Nadal beats Roger, but the question is *why.* It’s not because he’s that much better. If he were, Roger wouldn’t be having a 34% winrate against prime Nole while Rafa only has a 25% winrate. And that’s while Federer and Nole met up the most when Federer was old too (33/34.)
Then again, you’re probably the kind of person who says that Federer entered his prime at 34 and he could only beat Rafa and Nole while they were injured. There’s no use in arguing with you, because you’ve closed your mind from the beginning.
