Your tears are a salute and a sincere "thank you" to the entire company who made this film: the actors, musicians, stagehands, screenwriters, EVERYBODY! Let those tears flow, they're like applause!
That was a wonderful reaction! Never be concerned about a movie making you cry. So many people, including a lot of content creators who react to movies, have difficulty showing their true emotions. To be able to feel so strongly, without being afraid or embarrassed to show how you feel, is a gift.
Crying can be good as an emotional release for sentient beings, including people. It's good for us, but sad if we need movies just to get in a good cry.
If you want to have a good cry and feel wonderful afterward, I suggest "It's a Wonderful Life" (1946). It is often considered a Christmas movie but can be watched anytime.
My 10th grade English teacher assigned this book for us to read, this is before the movie was released. Favorite book read ever. This was in the early 80's before the movie came out.
Mandy and Carey, the two actors, practiced with an Olympic swordsman every chance they had time during the filming to learn that fight starting with the "left handed" fencing first. The flips on the bar were done by a stuntman. The tumble down the hill by Wesley and Buttercup were both done by the same stuntman. (just dressed as each)
A s soon as I saw the thumbnail for this I said to myself, Verdy not liking this movie is inconceivable. Mandy Patinkin, Inigo Montoya, lost his father to cancer a few years before making this movie. When they started filming the sword fight with the count, Mandy said that in his mind and heart if he killed the count that was him killing the cancer that killed his father. So the line, "I want my father back you son of a bitch." That was him talking to the cancer as he killed it.
Both actors worked for three months on that fencing scene. The only part that a stunt person was used was the gymnast bar stunt. William Goldman asked his young daughters what the story should be about. One said, "A princess" and the other said, "A bride".
Their coaches were an olympic fencing champion and the guy who coached Errol Flynn, in his great fencing movie. They were practising in all of the off times during filming, then the director said it was too short after filming, so they did a bit more.
It's so much more entertaining when you realize the 'movie' bits are intended to be what the boy is imagining as grandpa tells the story. It's such a pure kinda thing
So much talent in this film! The boy who is being told the story is Fred Savage. He was the star of the original "Wonder Years" series (not the reboot). The grandfather, Peter Falk has an extensive line of film and television credits but was best known for playing homicide detective Lt. Columbo from 1968 to 2003 in the murder drama "Columbo." Miracle Max was played by the amazing Billy Crystal, who was on "Saturday Night Live" before becoming an incredibly successful comedy actor in film. His wife, Carol Kane, was best known as Simka (wife of Latka) on "Taxi." Christopher Sarandon (ex-husband of Susan Sarandon), Christopher Guest ("This is Spinal Tap" and other mocumentaries), and Mandy Patinkin (a major theatre talent who was never better on film than as Inigo Montoya) are all fantastic as well, and even the late wrestler Andre the Giant did well. If you enjoyed this, you should watch "Throw Momma from a Train." I think it matches it pretty closely for the level of humor and overall entertainment, and Billy Crystal stars (with Danny DeVito) in that film. BTW, "Patinkin" is pronounced like "pa" in patio, stress on "TIN," and then "kin."
Verdy Andre the giant was a WWE wrestler and actor and everything u c him do in the princess bride is literally the real life him Strength voice everything is real Andre did have a birth defect acromegaly which gave him his giant size. Look for him in Wikipedia. He was the 1st wrestling star to go in WWE hall of Fame in 1993 it was WWF back then 1979-2003 name changed because of copyright lawsuit of the WWF letters Now it's WWE 2004- present Andre was the gentle kind of man Who is sorely missed
Wesley says "True I cannot lift a sword, but that is hardly common knowledge is it". Playing upon the theme that reputation is far more deadly than the sword.
Great reaction to my favorite movie of all time. 🙂 And after possibly a thousand times I've seen this I still tear up when the grandfather says "As you wish." Cary Elwes, who played Westley, wrote a book called "As You Wish..." about the making of this movie and it is a wonderful book to read with so many great stories from many of the people involved. The thing I loved most about the duel was that it was the two actors doing all of it except the more acrobatic bits. They pretty much spent every spare moment during this movie's production practicing their movements for the duel so they could perform as well as they did. Just amazing!
I've watched this movie at least a hundred times as one of my all time favorites. Your comment of the grandpa saying (I love you) "As you wish" added something I've never seen. Amazing!
Great reaction! I love this movie...and love watching it with my kids!! Now as a dad, that last line always makes me tear up too! (so don't feel bad). It's a truly fun movie! RIP Andre the Giant! I love your role in this. Cheers!
I was 11 years old when this movie came out, about the same age as the grandson, and the same age that Inigo was when he challenged Rugen to a duel to avenge his father. So, I've always felt a connection to this movie, and it has always been my favorite movie of all time. It always hits me in the feels. Inigo demands everything that Rugen has to offer, and Rugen is ready to give all of it. Except the one thing he can't give. And that's the only thing that Inigo really wants. That moment gets me every time. So now I'm a 47-year-old guy who cries every time watching a comedy.
This was fun! I was fortunate to be able to see this film in theaters when it was released in 1987. I was seven. I have loved this movie ever since. One of the few that I can watch over and over and still not get tired of it. One year later, Willow came out and I added another movie that I can watch over and over.
The cliff that they rolled down wasn't as big as we see on screen. They altered the image to make it bigger. The same stuntman did both Westley and Buttercup's rolling down the cliff. Andre the Giant was a famous wrestler.
Verdy always gives such great reactions. You were right about them enjoying training for sword fighting. They said in an interview about how much fun it was and how hard.
Verdy if u think the sword fighting in the princess bride was cool I highly recommend the mark of zorro with Tyrone power and Basil rathvone both men were excellent Master swordsman in real life #1 sword fight ever
I just discovered your channel and I love your reaction style, real and sincere. I am going back to watch more reactions here. I am subscribing in hopes to see more movie reactions. Good job.
As you loved this try Errol Flynn's 'The Adventures of Robin Hood.' Basil Rathbone is the evil Sherriff of Nottingham and was an Olympic silver medalist fencer. If you want something equally moving but rather more strange try 'A Matter of Life and Death' with Eric Niven. My favourite romance.
I'm so glad you enjoyed this. One of my favorite movies. I watch it at least once a year. I share it with everyone I can. You should watch & react to Starman, Enemy Mines, & Beastmaster. All from around this time & just as enjoyable. You would probably like The Last Starfighter as well!
This film is a pop culture masterpiece. Inconceivable! My name is Inigo Montoya. As you wish. Have fun storming the castle and on and on. Next check out Rob Reiner's "This Is Spinal Tap." Cheers....
Great job with your reaction and thoughts on the Film The Princess B ride it's one of my All Time favorites . You might recognize two of the bad guys one of them was on Young Shield the second would be Andre the Giant from The WWE and the there would be from criminal minds . Main actress who plays the Princess was married to Sean Penn her name is Robin Write Penn .she also started in the soap Santa Barbara as Kelly Capwell. This May be long but the person who played the prince started in Robin Hood Hood Men IN Tights
I've enjoyed your videos for some time now, and this one was excellent. I have a recommendation for you: Cary Elwes, who played Wesley, wrote a fantastic book a few years ago entitled "As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride". It has great stories about the cast, director, and crew and I know you (and anyone who is a fan of the film) will really enjoy it. His description of the training that he and Mandy Patinkin went through for their sword fighting scenes is amazing. They were trained by two British Olympic fencers for weeks before shooting the movie, and continued throughout the making of the film. And his memories of Andre the Giant and their friendship is priceless. You can get a copy of the book for just a few dollars...but I'd gladly pay four or five times the price for it. Thanks again...and keep up the great work.
Holy moly! It's 3:00 am and I was pissed off because I couldn't sleep. This pops up as the first recommendation on YT and now I'm sitting here thankful for insomnia. I can't wait to see her enjoy one of my favorites movies! Edit: Regarding the music. Composed by Mark Knopfler.
Inigo is a better swords man than the man in black and would have won on the cliffs. Inigo is using a sword made for a six figured man, that wouldn't mean much to you and I, but for a master such balance is the game changer. (This is book lore)
Is Andre The Giant not well known in France/Canada nowadays? I know he has been gone for over 30 years now, but I thought pretty much everybody of French origin would recognise him. He was huge in Montreal & Toronto in the 1970's & 1980's.
Verdy, Another GREAT movie to check out is the John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara classic "The Quiet Man" an early color movie set in 1920's Ireland by famous Director John Ford (released 1952) Add that to your list of movies to react to...

And all Billy crystal movies should be watched such as Analyze This, City Slickers, When Harry met Sally and watch old TV episodes here, of maybe the best live audience show ever done, Soap! "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" - also by Zemeckis, it has the same fun adventure-y feel to it; the writing is incredible, the characters very well realized, the story is great, you'll have a blast and finally "Walk Hard" - the definitive Music Biopic that literally every music biopic steals from. Perfectly cast, brilliant, funny
Your tears are a salute and a sincere "thank you" to the entire company who made this film: the actors, musicians, stagehands, screenwriters, EVERYBODY! Let those tears flow, they're like applause!
This movie is one of the most re-watchable movies ever made. It never gets old.
That was a wonderful reaction! Never be concerned about a movie making you cry. So many people, including a lot of content creators who react to movies, have difficulty showing their true emotions. To be able to feel so strongly, without being afraid or embarrassed to show how you feel, is a gift.
Besides, in a reaction video, people want to see your emotional reaction. We want to see you laugh and cry and cheer. That's what we're here for.

Can’t go wrong with this movie!!
Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits did the sound track. That's why the guitar work was so brilliant.
Couldn't have picked a better composer for this kind of film.
Verdy Andre the giant was a WWE wrestler and actor and everything u c him do in the princess bride is literally the real life him

The music, Mark Knopfler... (Dire Straits) TONS of great music to react to!
Mark was a fan of the director's first film, "This Is Spinal Tap".
"Inconceivable" means something so impossible that your mind can not even imagine it happening.
Its a very simple word, it means it can not be conceived. Are you really telling me you are not familiar with the word "conceive"?
I see...
As in "not conceivable by the human mind", so clearly hyperbole as we find out he exaggerates a lot.
"Rodents of unusual size?! I don't think they exist."
"Raaaaaaaaah!"
To conceive something is to imagine or think of something so inconceivable means unthinkable or unbelievable.
Absolutely one of the greatest movies of all time!!!
She didn't know what inconceivable meant?! That's inconceivable!

I was 11 years old when this movie came out, about the same age as the grandson, and the same age that Inigo was when he challenged Rugen to a duel to avenge his father. So, I've always felt a connection to this movie, and it has always been my favorite movie of all time.

The excellent soundtrack for this film was written and conducted by none other than Mark Knopfler of the rock band Dire Straits. It is beautiful.
The cliff that they rolled down wasn't as big as we see on screen. They altered the image to make it bigger. The same stuntman did both Westley and Buttercup's rolling down the cliff. Andre the Giant was a famous wrestler.
This is possibly my favorite movie, it's the only movie I feel could never be recast due to the chemistry the actors had.
Inigo Montoya played by Mandy Patinkin was in Esprits Criminels (Criminal Minds)
