"'As you wish' means 'I love you', he was telling he grandson that he loved him." I am 40 years old. This movie was one of the first I ever saw, to the point that I cannot recall a time in my life where I had not seen this movie. I cannot remember my first time watching it, it has been a part of my life for that long. And that had never occurred to me. Incredible after all this time this movie can find a way to bring me to tears. Thank you both.
The late, very great André the Giant was 7’ 4” tall and 520 lbs. - more or less. He was a very famous professional wrestler many years ago. Personally, he was one of the coolest guys ever. The entire cast of The Princess Bride loved him.
He drank A LOT too, many bottles of wine and/or beer lol but I’ve heard he was a really great guy. They say he was the nicest guy in and out of wrestling, too bad he became debilitated, in this movie they pretended he did a lot of things, even like catching Buttercup. His back was in terrible shape and it caused him a lot of pain, but they did really well making it seem like he did all those things.
I should add that André's "official" height and weight have been disputed. His French passport listed him an under 7' 2". Some have claimed that he was only 7' tall and even shorter. It is known that due to André's unfortunate issues with his spine, he shrank in height over the years.
@@MetastaticMaladies There is a video on YT with Rob Reiner recounting the day they were filming the final scene where they ride off on the horses. It was the 3rd Thursday in November which is the day the Beaujolais Nouveau is released in France and is close to a national holiday for Frenchmen. Andre' arranged to have a couple of cases delivered to him on the set that morning. He was too heavy for his horse so they had him rigged to the ceiling so they could lower him onto the horse but keep his full weight supported by the rigging. Andre' had already downed a couple of bottles when Reiner walked onto the set. He looked up and there was this 500lb. drunken giant hanging from the ceiling with a bottle in one hand and a wine glass in the other calling out "Hello Boss!" Found it: ruclips.net/video/SfYt6Y6vrOI/видео.html
In defense of Buttercup, please remember that women in those days were taught to NOT fight. She failed with the log against the ROUS, but tried to negotiate with Humperdinck. She did well for a realistic "dainty princess".
I love how this is a spoof of fantasy stories while also being one of the best fantasy stories. When you can make fun of something while also being the best at it you know you did it right.
True. But not in a "foreign kidnappers have murdered my fiancee" kind of angry. Having your fiancee murdered is not an "irritation" or an "inconvenience"- or it shouldn't be. This is a line that first shows how little Humperdinck cares for Buttercup.
This is one of my favorite movies for many reasons. But my favorite scene is definitely when Inigo finally exacts his revenge. The look he gave the count was everything considering he was feeling the loss of his father in real life then, too. Just a beautiful heartfelt scene.
I've probably seen this movie 100 times. I used to show it to my students every year during my decade as a teacher. The "live to bluff" thing never occurred to me and it is a brilliant observation. Loved this reaction!
Same here, I have seen this too many times to count and not once did I make that connection. Just shows you no matter how much you think you know a fresh mind can show you something new. Brilliant!
@@orlandoawilliams799 Thank you, that part I got though. What I am not understanding (maybe I didn't hear something said during the movie or reaction quite right) is what the "live to bluff" thing even is. Is that something Westley says at some point, or..?
Fun Fact! While promoting this movie Cary Elwes was asked (IIR it was on David Letterman) if there were any roles he wanted to do next and Elwes said he wanted to play Tony Stark in a live action Iron Man movie. The host and audience laughed uncomfortably because almost no one knew who Iron Man was back then.
This was one of the first movies I showed my wife when we met. I cooked her dinner, was hitting her with the ''As you wish'' all day long and she had no idea why. Our daughter is 5 and we cannot wait to show it to her when she's a bit older. I competed in HEMA(Historical European Martial Arts) with a Longsword for 10 years so I love any movie with swordplay.
My favorite story of this film is… the actor playing vizzini was scared of heights. During the cliffs of insanity they were on a fork lift. He was terrified. Andre the giant wrapped his arms around him and told him he wouldn’t let anything happen to him.
A little trivia (if you haven’t yet heard it): Mandy Patinkin (the Spaniard) - the actor - his father had passed away shortly before (or during?) the filming of this movie. When he said the line, “I want my father back, you sonofabitch,” he FELT it. Quite beautiful.
The kind of movie I never thought I'd like, but when I saw it for the first time, coerced by a girl (my daughter, 10 at the time), I liked it. Thanks so much for sharing with us! God bless you!
When she pushes Westly (or however it's spelled) down the hill and then realizes it's him... and then instead of walking down, she throws herself down the hill as well... I die laughing every time. Love the channel. Keep it up.
I always saw it as her trying to run down after him, but it was so steep that she didn’t make it past that first step before tumbling (possibly also because she wasn’t really dressed for such activity).
I was waiting for "MAWWWIAGE" and it did not disappoint. Great reaction. Edit: First time I've heard someone point out Wesley did indeed come back to bluff. I never picked up on that!
I love how you guys were trying not to laugh at the priests pronunciation of marriage "mawwedge" but couldn't hold it in anymore. It made the scene even funnier.
Andre the Giant was a cast favorite but especially to Robin Wright (Princess Buttercup). During some of the shooting it was apparently very cold and Andre would put his hand on her head to keep her warm. His hand easily covered her skull! Lol
I’ve read both the book and watched the movie. I’ve also read Cary Elwes book on the happenings behind the movie. Love them all. Got to know even Andre the Giant was such a sweet heart. He was more precious than gold. Rest in peace Andre.
My favorite part of this reaction is when Westley says "I spent the last few years building up an immunity to Iocane powder" and Jyn & Ryl say "ohhh!" the EXACT same way and time. Y'all are money 🤣🤣🤣
3:00 There’s way more in the book about Buttercup’s life between Westley and Humperdinck. Also way more back story on Inigo and Fezzik, a much more elaborate Pit of Despair situation, and much more of Miracle Max and Valerie. It’s really a very funny book and a fun read.
Cary Elwes narrates his audiobook “As You Wish” and it’s SOOOO worth a listen. It’s like a behind the scenes memoir. Several of the other actors and actresses in the movie speak their own opinions throughout the book as well, it’s awesome. 🥰🥰
I love how they snuck in a "f*ck yourself*. When the brute squad member yells out "Ho there!" and Inigo answers "keep your joder" in Spanish, joder means "to f*ck", and by telling him to keep it, he's telling him to go f himself.

A wonderful reaction. My Granddad used to hire this film from the video store every now and again, and we would always enjoy rewatching it together. Great times. It was the last film I sat down with him to watch (again) before he passed. The film has a special place in my heart. ❤
3:16 That is a cardboard cut-out of Inigo Montoya. The actor Mandy Patinkin was not available for filming that day. They rigged the cut-out so that his eyes could "blink." You can see Cary Elwes (Westley) doing comedy in "Hot Shots!" and "Robin Hood: Men in Tights"
In all the times I watched and as many times as I've watched reactions and read through the comments.... this is the first time I heard about the cutout and I looked back and am in awe.
Great Reaction..... Everyone comments about how "Over the Top" this movie is and how useless Buttercup is.... Reminder, You are watching this from the Imagination of an 8 year old boy who is listening to a story....... The Grandfather is best known for his role "Columbo" a Detective TV movie series in the 1970's... The Grandson was the lead from the TV show "Wonder Years"...... Buttercup would later play Jenny in "Forest Gump"...... Fesik is played by Professional Wrestler Andre the Giant, He Past Away to Young at Age 46..... The Cliff-Top Duel was practiced by Wesley & Indigo, through-out the filming and one of the last things filmed..... And is considered one of the best filmed duels in movie history, and all but the gymnastic flips is the actual actors..... When 6-Fingered Man hit Wesley on the Head, it was a real hit and put the actor for Wesley in the hospital.... The Director had to leave the set when Filming the Miracle Max scenes cause the Actor Billy Crystal kept making him laugh.... If you notice, when Indigo delivers the line "I want my Father Back...." the actor drops the spanish accent, one reason is he was channeling how he felt about loosing his Father to Cancer.....
i do wish buttercup was written as a more empowered character, though i understand she was progressive princess in the context of the 80s, talkin shit to men. i also always hated the scene where westley raises his hand to her other than that pretty perfect movie
every time i've sat down and watched this movie with someone who's never seen it i have to tell them "just keep watching" more than any other movie, ever. the big guy is Andre the Giant... he was a pro wrestler from France who could drink an entire case of beer in one night. from what everyone says, one of the kindest human beings to ever walk the earth.
"Put out" simply means, inconvenienced. In other words, he won't really be mad, just annoyed. I personally, get teary every time Mandy Patinkin says, "I want my father back, you Son of a bitch." It hurts. If you liked this and know anything about rock music, Rob Ryners first film, This is Spinal Tap is hilarious, includes the guy who played Count Rugen and the guy who played Miracle Max and is mostly improve. Check it out. It's hilarious. Stand By Me is also good, but less pure comedy.
This is the first of your reactions that i have watched. You are delightful ❤. Fun fact this movie is based on a book that a Hollywood director wrote for his daughters. Going to check out more of your reactions and subscribe.

This was always one of my favorites. I love the grandpa’s line : “Yes you’re very smart. Shut up.”
Education in a nutshell, as they say... ;-)
My favorite line. I use it all the time.

At one point during the filming, Andre let off a 17 second fart, or so I read...😂
This movie is a classic. They don't make them like this anymore.
In fairytales everyone is perfect
Yes he was saying I love you to his grandson. After all these years it still brings a tear to my eye. Great reaction!
💜💜
I always start crying at that part. It’s so sweet 🥲
he's not saying just that, that means true love
It always chokes me up too.

Wow, Rugen really dialled those fingers up to 11!
I love seeing reactors when he says that line about everybody wearing masks in the future. Every single one has the same response, lol.
Yup... as it was approaching I was waiting to see how they would.
Which is silly since he's not talking about that kind of mask but I definitely understand why it's funny
I love how this is a spoof of fantasy stories while also being one of the best fantasy stories. When you can make fun of something while also being the best at it you know you did it right.
‘Put out’ means inconvenienced or irritated - angry is close enough - nicely done
True. But not in a "foreign kidnappers have murdered my fiancee" kind of angry. Having your fiancee murdered is not an "irritation" or an "inconvenience"- or it shouldn't be. This is a line that first shows how little Humperdinck cares for Buttercup.

@jaypee9575 Wesley's "to the pain" speech to Humperdinck was a bluff - so Wesley lived, and he bluffed!

Yes that’s my third favorite horse movie. Top four are.
1. War horse
2. Secretariat
3. Seabisuit
4. Black beauty the 1994 version.
Have a few more but these are my top favorites.

I've seen this about a hundred times over the years, and I never once thought about how he lived to bluff. Never heard it before either. That's wild!
My absolute #1 favorite movie of all time. The genre-bending and witty lines and actors playing it straight -- all adds up to perfect.
Great movie and one of the few that does not need a remake
A brilliant yet silly take on a classic fairy tale. It’s humor was like that of Monty Python.
Very witty, absurdist comedy. The dialogue is wonderful!
INCONCEIVABLE! You can find memes and references to Vizzini and his famous exclamation everywhere online. 😆
Honestly, one of your best reactions ever. Loved it - but then this is one of the best movies ever made..
You need to watch Robin Hood men in tights!! It Robin Hood is played by the same actor who plays Wesley. It’s really funny!
A story of wonder and fantasy.
“Very put out” translates more accurately to “very inconvenience d” rather than very angry.
One of the greatest films ever made AND the most quoted film of all time!
It was even referred to on NCIS.
Princess Buttercup is Jenny from Forrest Gump
This takes me back to my childhood.
My favourite part of any of your reactions so far @15:05
Hahahaha!
lol 😂 👍🏾
6:36 "Well, I'm carrying _three people."_
Four, counting yourself.
maybe he was insulting vizzini
That was a great reaction video. Loved watching it again with you both
Thanks for checking this one out! My fave since I was a teenager, now I’m nearly 50. Love your beautiful smiles! 😊

3:16 That is a cardboard cut-out of Inigo Montoya. The actor Mandy Patinkin was not available for filming that day. They rigged the cut-out so that his eyes could "blink."
You can see Cary Elwes (Westley) doing comedy in "Hot Shots!" and "Robin Hood: Men in Tights"
In all the times I watched and as many times as I've watched reactions and read through the comments.... this is the first time I heard about the cutout and I looked back and am in awe.
@@alabamamagick You're welcome.
waaaat
Good reaction. I grew up with that movie
The "kindness" is called "chivalry".
If you want to watch another movie like this.
Kinda wholesome, with a story in a story.
I suggest watching, Second Hand Lions.
The Princess also plays Jenny from Forest Gump 🤙
I really enjoy watching movies with my virtual friends! I will join your Patron when I can afford it.
If you notice, when Indigo delivers the line "I want my Father Back...." the actor drops the spanish accent, one reason is he was channeling how he felt about loosing his Father to Cancer.....
i do wish buttercup was written as a more empowered character, though i understand she was progressive princess in the context of the 80s, talkin shit to men. i also always hated the scene where westley raises his hand to her
other than that pretty perfect movie
Murdered by pirates is good 😂
um, as excited i was for breakfast club, this is my favorite. just my favorite. gonna watch right now
💜💜
every time i've sat down and watched this movie with someone who's never seen it i have to tell them "just keep watching" more than any other movie, ever.
the big guy is Andre the Giant... he was a pro wrestler from France who could drink an entire case of beer in one night. from what everyone says, one of the kindest human beings to ever walk the earth.
I can see why ☺️ it’s amazing
He once drank 119 cans of beer in 6 hrs. In wrestling he was said to be 7'4 and 500 lbs
it is a delight to watch movies with you.
great movie
Willow (1988)
I second this!❤
"Put out" simply means, inconvenienced.
If you liked Cary Elwes, you need to watch Robin Hood Men in Tights. Its hilarious.
This is the first of your reactions that i have watched. You are delightful ❤. Fun fact this movie is based on a book that a Hollywood director wrote for his daughters. Going to check out more of your reactions and subscribe.
