My 6 week old, lettuce phase, poppies that I planted in the garden have leaves that are "burnt" on the edges. Thought I had to water more, but it made it a bit worse. I wish I knew what to do! YOUR poppies are beautiful though! So many colors!
Looking beautiful Brie! I'm having the same trouble as you with the purchased poppy seeds this year. I put them in along with Larkspur and Bachelor Buttons, about a month behind you in 8a, and not a single one in 3 packs germinated. The BBs and Larkspur have come up nicely though. My wife and I are looking forward to seeing your garden in person next week!
I think there is a period of moist cold that must be taken into account beforehand. This is why the fall sowing method is so ubiquitous with poppy growing. If you miss that window or the winter is too warm where you are, it won't matter what you do from there on out. The poppies will remain elusive until you can crack the germination lock.
Really enjoy seeing how your garden has changed and your right the poppies are beautiful. We could adopted you as a "Okie." The sound of the waving barley is like the fields of wheat in Oklahoma and of course your use of Ya'll. lol
I ordered some of the red templar cross Poppies, 1st time to plant ever!! Newbie gardener here and Former plant killer!! I have been growing in poor soil, sandy for the Most part, but learning how to build my soil with what I have on hand, going into my 3rd year presently, next year will be better!
BRIE!!! Seems I saw a video that about 30 % of the floret seeds produce plants! I would check with Baker Creek to see if the percentage of seeds grow?!
Hi Brie. I know it is wrong to be jealous but I am green with envy over your gorgeous poppies. I live in zone 8b and struggle to grow poppies. I sow them in fall, winter, spring, on the surface, in the ground...we even had some snow this year and I threw some seeds on the snow. I sow them in the sun, in the shade...on and on it goes. I sow thousands of seeds (past two years) and only get a few plants. These are delightful but I want more! Anybody out there with tips?
8b is quite warm for poppies, however you could attempt a cold stratification by placing the seeds in slightly dampened sand mix in a non freezing space like the crisper of your refrigerator for 4 weeks before sowing them out. That change from moist cold to warm should jump-start the mechanism that this plant needs to germinate. It's a bit much, but it could greatly improve your germination rate.
Hello Brie. I might still buy seeds from Baker Creek Seed Co. but I was comparing the website of Baker Creek and the website of Select Seeds, in regards to the amount of seeds per packet, e.g. for poppies, and it seems like Select Seeds gives more seeds per packet, for most things (but not Gilia capitata though), than Baker Creek does. Their prices are about the same as each other. You would just have to get free shipping from Select Seeds somehow, e.g. like an Earth Day special.
I just watched your video where you planted the double poppies. Are those the ones that did not come up? I have a friend that grew double pink and they were the most gorgeous thing I've ever seen. I have been trying to grow my own doubles with no success. I was hoping yours were successful. I will have a bumper crop of single orange though. I will keep following.
There they are…. Been waiting awhile. Lol You tricked us a few times. Just beautiful.
"Brie the POPPY lady", gorgeous poppies!

I think it’s your timing. They really prefer cool weather- not summer.
@@BrieThePlantLady Ok! Perhaps I should start them in Spring next year then! They have recovered somewhat, and just might make it! Thank you!
The quality of your videos continues to improve. Beautiful poppies!

I share your poppy woes.

Exactly! It’s so disappointing!
May I have a few poppy seeds ready to plant? 🤔
I only sell poppy seed at in person events- no mail order.
I just ordered and received a lot of poppyseeds - is it too late to plant them?
Yes. They need cold soil
My poppies seeds didn't germinate again:(
Ohh sad
If my mate crackhead Dave saw this place he would love it
