    I'm new to gardening and trying to learn... So a question for you, why do you prefer peat free compost?

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  5 месяцев назад +1

      Hi there, thank you for asking. It's much better for the environment to avoid using compost that contains peat because our peat boglands are so important for biodiversity but also to combat climate change. The RHS (and many other websites) have comprehensive information about this subject because it is so important that 'we gardeners' play out part in helping. This page should explain it better than I can www.rhs.org.uk/soil-composts-mulches/peat-free

      @@cottoverdi ohh!!! I had no idea! Thank you so much for informing me! WONDERFUL videos by the way! I've lost my mind and several weeks ago ordered almost 50 Dahlia tubers. Your videos have helped me envision what varieties to place where in the new flower beds I'm creating. And I'm just so excited!
      Thank you again for the response and the education. Have a lovely weekend!

    Those seeds are tiny! No need for a special seed sower? Thank you for a lovely video.

    Hi do Oriental Poppies need cold stratification ?

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  5 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Karla, Most seed packets will tell you that they do appreciate cold stratification but not all growers feel that it is necessary.

    How long do you leave them under the lights a day and how long until they germinate? Thank you!

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  Год назад +1

      Hi Cindy, I tend to leave my lights on between 14 and 16 hours a day. The poppy germination is normally about 14 days. Hope this helps. 💐

    Hi Cotto
    This is my first time planting poppies
    Question
    I started my poppyseeds in my trays. Now they are about 1 inch tall. Do I plant up them individually at this stage? 🤷‍♀️

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  Год назад

      Hi Vicki, it's best to wait until your seedlings have at least 1 set of true leaves before you pot them on. Poppies hate having their roots disturbed so try to move the entire compost/rootball in one go. Good luck.
